"The experience was let down by the quality of the cooking which was barely up to that of an enthusiastic but low skilled home cook. The menu looks OK at first sight but the descriptions flatter mundane dishes unimaginatively cooked. I made a late booking over a long weekend when I learnt that my son his girlfriend and her parents from Korea would be visiting Chester. Most places were heavily booked. The restaurant at the MB was almost empty obviously others knew more than I did. I wanted somewhere with a pleasant environment and a garden view. The Mollington Banastre restaurant looks out over a lawn that was OK but the hotel seems to suffer from a lack of investment. The front car park is heavily potholed thereby offering a poor impression on first arrival at the hotel. The ambience was OK and the lady who took our orders for drinks and meals was pleasant and efficient. So : service good, ambience OK, quiet enough in the restaurant for conversations (few other guests! but the cooking needs to improve greatly both in range and execution. I make these comments recognizing that the restaurant is pitching itself as mid range but at £165 for six (most of us had only two courses no coffee I found the evening a disappointment."

"had the worst meal for a long time. my code was over boiled, gummy and tasteless. the meal was hardly warm. my other guests were also not overly impressed by their eating. very disappointed. and to supplement injuries, the service was diabolical slow. it took over an hour to get meals and half an hour to get desserts that were the better part of the meal. I didn't complain as much as it was the point - if they had offered me something else, it would probably have been as long as I had come to the table that my guests would have ended their dinner long ago. but I will never return to that."

"I visited Allium to pick up two pizzas to go, and the entire experience was a disaster from beginning to end. Although the restaurant was empty, I had to wait about 30 minutes only to be informed that they had no pizza boxes for takeout. Instead, I was offered the option to carry the pizzas on plates down the street. So, we opted to dine in. Honestly, I think frozen pizzas from Iceland would have been a better choice; they were awful. The crust was as hard as cardboard—probably frozen beforehand—with just some extra cheese thrown on top. This definitely doesn't reflect the quality of a top chef!"

"We booked to go to The Ship for a family get together. From the time we arrived, we were looked after by the whole team and nothing was too much trouble. From giving us extra portions for starters, so we could split them more easily, to giving us a dash of wine we we joked that some cream had been spilt in an empty glass (which it hadn’t! , the service was exemplary. We were able to stay on our table the whole evening and at no point felt rushed. The food was also amazing, and excellent quality. We will definitely be returning and will rave about this place to anyone who will listen!"

"Wir hatten ein tolles Essen über das Valentinstagswochenende, also erwarteten wir eine ähnliche Erfahrung. Da es ein Sonntag war, bestellten wir das Sonntagsessen. "Wir wiesen zunächst darauf hin, dass mein Mann eine hochwertige Fischproteinallergie hat. Dann kam ein Gruß aus der Küche in Form von Algenbutter, die für uns normalerweise kein Problem darstellt. Nachdem wir und unsere Freunde probiert hatten, stellten wir fest, dass auch Anchovis in der Küche vorhanden waren. Als wir nachfragten, bekamen wir die Antwort, dass sie nicht wüssten, dass wir das nicht selbst machen! Das Essen war lauwarm, auf kalten Tellern serviert. Auf die Frage, warum die Teller nicht vorgeheizt waren, wurde uns gesagt, dass sie keine Möglichkeit haben, die Teller vorzuwärmen! Wir waren in einem Sterne-Restaurant, mehr möchte ich dazu nicht sagen."

"We only recently started going to the Piper as it's under new management. The new landlords are lovely. They made us feel very welcome and the atmosphere is great. The food was excellent value for money and plenty of it! We will now be going on a regular basis. I know it had a bad name in the past but I would encourage anyone to give it another try. "The starters were brilliant I had the squid and my wife had the bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar main course I had the steak and ale pie the was served with broccoli and mash potatoes although the food was very hot the mash was powdered potato and this was the same on my wife’s meal she had the salmon the food was tasty but I was put off a bit by the mash. We had desert I had dark chocolate and cherry tart this was served with coconut ice cream and my wife had the panacota these were ok but I felt they weren’t good value."

"great staff, but eat a bit average. the curry chicken from partner was good, but my rippchen did not fall from the bone and on places was a bit hard. had it better. also there were two hot parties in one was calm, the other was not. "After waiting until the last minute to book a restaurant in Chester, I decided to try The Handbridge, as it was just a short walk from the city center. Upon entering, I found the place to be quite calm, but I must say that both the food and service were excellent. It's a pity there wasn't a livelier atmosphere. I imagine that on a busier night outside of January, the place would have a lot more energy, given the quality of the food."

Although we received a warm welcome and our orders were taken promptly, that was the extent of the service we experienced. The restaurant wasn't busy, and there were plenty of staff around, but we barely received any attention. We didn't get offered any additional drinks, and since we were there to celebrate a 30th birthday, we were hoping to enjoy plenty of cocktails. Eventually, we had to flag someone down to request more drinks ourselves. As for the food, it was just average—edible but nothing special. The ambiance of the place was nice, but the subpar service really ruined the overall experience for us. I don't think I'll be returning."

"We arrived at the restaurant mid week early for dinner so restaurant was more or less empty. We were served by a lovely waitress who took our order etc and part way through our starter which was delicious another family were seated in the booth right next to our own. Under normal circumstances there would be no issue in this however the entire family group were continuously coughing the entire duration and considering we are still in a pandemic this made both me and my husband feel extremely uncomfortable. I feel the restaurant should and could have at least tried to seat separate bookings further away from each-other to comply with COVID procedures as much as they can. As a family of 4 we left the restaurant mid way through our main meal as it was so disturbing the coughing coming from all members of the other family booking and went back to our hotel room. We were not the only guests to comment on the situation and the restaurant appeared to be understaffed which possibly cannot be helped under present circumstances."
