"We went to Bakewell for a family mini break couple and infant. We were staying at another hotel but was drawn in by the red lions food menu, and it looked warm and welcoming, but it was very much the opposite. On arrival we ordered a drink at the bar and we were then lead to our table and we asked if everything on the menu was available as we didn’t want to be disappointed, we were informed 2 things were not available this was the Mac and cheese bites and the lamb wellington which I was looking forward to. We accepted and proceeded to place our order at the bar no table service, we ordered a kids starter of chicken wings and mac n cheese from the kids menu and we ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. Shortly after ordering our starters and mains the waitress came to the table with the 2 adult mains and we said we had ordered starters, she went back to the kitchen and then returned to us and said it had all been cooked together, returning with our mains, we didn’t want it all together what’s the point of having starters and mains if all was coming together?? Waitress agreed and at this point the manager came over with pen and paper and took note of what we had ordered to try and get it right. The waitress took the mains back returning then with our starters I ordered the king prawns, this was meant to come with a tandoori mayonnaise, but came with a sweet chilli dip and prawns were small not king in my opinion and husbands tacos (but only 1 arrived ok but very basic! My sons main (no starter came out, we accepted as he was hungry and was told his wings and garlic bread would be on its way. A few minutes later she returned with a kids nuggets and chips and we said we had ordered wings, we were told we had ordered vegan wings if this was the case why bring nuggets??? I know the difference between nuggets and wings and also neither of these were vegan, again took back to the kitchen and shortly after returned with wings and undercooked and soggy garlic bread. At this point the owner come manager was apologetic and sincere and she offered us a refund, however, we were happy to still pay for the food as we accepted mistakes happen, we were therefore offered a drink on the house in which we accepted. As soon as we finished starters our mains came straight back out original mains that were cooked and were luke warm and husbands lasagne was cold we spoke to Manager/owner about this and told it was fresh food and the original meals had been thrown away and recooked, I find this hard to believe as it was immediately bought out as soon as starters were finished. Manager informed us that the lasagne was 75 degrees although knife was cold after cutting! At this point the manager was finding the situation very challenging and she was becoming emotional, informing us that her staff had been working hard and she had had to close the kitchen off at 2pm that day as they had already delivered over 250 meals (not my issue and if you can’t deliver consistently then don’t allow people to enter and order food! manager became very rude, abrupt, aggressive and abusive in her language swearing in front of my 3 year old and also whilst others were trying to eat their dinner, I also apologised to others in the restaurant but afterwards questioned why I had apologised for her behaviour?!?! we were also then addressed by kitchen staff to see if we were ok they could clearly see we weren’t ok and were very apologetic for her behaviour and informed me this is not normal service. He asked if there was anything he could do and I just asked him to clear away all of our meals as we would not be staying to eat after her unacceptable behaviour towards us and I asked for a refund for our starters and mains, we were happy to pay for my sons as he ate his Mac and cheese at least. Manager was willing to do this, although this does not make the standard, level of service and her attitude towards us acceptable. Manager soon realised that her behaviour was not acceptable and she came to to table and provided champagne and 2 glasses (far too late in my opinion food had not been eaten table cleared why would we then stay to drink champagne?!?! as we were leaving and didnt want champagne to go to waste we offered this to a neighbouring table BIG MISTAKE Manager then became verbally abusive and stormed over removing the Champagne and glasses stating they could not have it demanding we left we were already on our way out and was happy to be leaving such a volitile pub! Overall menu and pub looks appealing, however we definitely would not return food is very basic and in comparison to what is on offer on the menu and service has a lot to be desired staff need to have more leadership and management. On the other hand we would recommend the Queens Arms and Rutland Arms."

"Absolutely great experience we stayed last night in our camper van in their car park. I emailed a couple of weeks ago to check it was ok to park overnight we are Brit stops members) I also booked a table for us including our dog, I received a lovely email acknowledging our requests and confirming booking great start. We had a long wet walk in the morning and arrived around 3pm and parked up in their large flat car park, there is a lovely beer garden which would be lovely on a sunny day. The pub itself is modern and clean with a real fire which we managed to get a table next to in an attempt to try and dry ourselves and our wet dog, we asked if we could have that table for the duration if it wasn’t already booked this was sorted for us straight away. The landlady was really nice and super dog friendly she even gave us a lovely big soft dog bed for our tired wet mutt along with dog treats and a water bowl these are the small things that make people come back over and over again. The food menu is very good, lots of traditional pub food but with the addition of some interesting Indian curries, the landlady’s son in law is the chef. We both had Lamb Nihari which came with fresh indian bread 2) rice and a fresh salad absolutely delicious we did notice that the majority of other dinners also had this option) the lamb was so tasty and tender I will be having this again when we go back!! The pub was pretty quiet but it was a wet wednesday evening in February so we didn’t expect it to be busy. After a few beers we retired to our van lovely little grass area at the bottom of the car park perfect for a quick dog toilet visit before bed there is a large field opposite the pub which is perfect for a longer dog walk it has 2 entrances both with dog poop bins. We all slept wonderfully it’s on a very quiet road. There is B&B accommodation in the pub as well. My 1 very small niggle is the chairs throughout the pub are lovely solid wooden ones but are quiet hard on an old tired bum especially as we were there quite a few hours like I say it really isn’t a criticism just an observation. The Okeover arms has now moved to the top of our Brit Stops pub list. Thank you"
