"This is a rare gem of a restaurant. My other half and I have been going to this place for our Italian fix since 2008, and to be honest we’ve tried other places local to us but none hit the mark like this place (we travel about an hour from Doncaster area it’s that good) Family run, traditionally cooked Italian food at its best, and there’s plenty of it, simply presented without the faff and fluff you get at some places. Set at the side of the village green this stone building decor is warm, inviting and cosy with a traditional Italian rustic feel, Gabs has chosen his staff well, friendly warm and welcoming it’s like being with family every time you visit. Starters are a good size serving but the mains are incredibly generous, delicious flavours with nothing overpowering this allows the tastes to come through of each dish it doesn’t disappoint. If you have enough room for dessert they are a divine melt in the mouth experience not to be missed. So if you like good honest homemade Italian food made by the family, served by the family, that makes you feel like part of the family give this place a try. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"We had previously visited this restaurant on a steak night and had a great experience, so we decided to go back for a family birthday celebration on another steak night. However, it turned out to be a disaster. The starter was raw, the sausage was cold and undercooked, and the mixed grill we ordered was missing a steak. They had mistakenly put it on another plate and made us transfer it ourselves. To make matters worse, there was egg shell in the eggs. This was a huge disappointment as our first visit had been wonderful. Unfortunately, this experience has put us off from returning to this restaurant. The bar staff informed us that they had been having issues with their staff, which explains the poor service we received. They did not charge us for the starter and mixed grill, but considering the horrible meal and experience, I expected better customer service. Thankfully, no one got sick from eating raw pork."

"I visited Tideswell Lounge while out on a bike ride in the Peak District yesterday (02.08.2024). A lovely small village Bistro type place with a warm atmosphere inside and an excellent shaded seating area outside. Or if you're not fussy and want to take in the vibes of the village like me you can just sit on the wall. The selection of meals available was spot on. Personally I was in dire need of a piece of cake. I chose the Coffee Walnut, it was delicious. The place is pristine, quirky but trendy and modern set in an exceptionally beautiful old stone built town. The staff were very friendly, chatty and helpful. It's a family owned business with all hands on board. I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Andy the owner and his son. This wasn't a planned visit I was looking for somewhere to top up my water bottles and have a minute. I'm very glad I found the lounge. I can highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Especially cyclists for their coffee and cake top up! There's plenty of room outside to keep an eye on your pride and joy. 5 stars from me and I will definitely be going back."

"My wife, daughter, and I decided to try this restaurant based on the positive reviews we had seen about the pies (and other delicious plates of food). It is a family-friendly pub where everyone seemed to be in good spirits. We ordered 2 pints of Timmy Taylor beer and a pint of coke. The landlord and his partner were very friendly and attentive. We all enjoyed homemade pies with chips and peas, topped with delicious gravy. It was nice to have plenty of gravy with our meal. We had one steak and ale pie and two steak and stilton pies, and they were absolutely delicious. The pies were filled generously with meat, and the prices were reasonable for the quality of food. The pub was bustling with patrons enjoying their meals, reinforcing my belief that serving good food will bring customers back. We will definitely be returning."

"Once a year, we go out with two of our friends for a special meal to celebrate Christmas. This year, we picked The Cavendish, based on its reputation as a high-end restaurant, with fine dining, relaxed but top-notch service, elegant furnishings and a superb position. All of the things we expected were there in abundance: the service; the furnishings and the position (what a view! but the food! I cannot grumble about the food quality. Whilst not fine dining, it was good. The menu was varied and we had a choice of the normal menu and also the Christmas Fayre menu, or a combination of the two. Our starters ranged from scallops to crab, to chestnut soup. All were fine and the portions reasonable. However, when the mains arrived, the portion sizes were ludicrously small. My initial impression was that the waiter had brought us the chef's amuse-bouche at the wrong moment! I had ordered venison and, whilst I did not expect a whole stag on my plate, I expected more than a handful of postage stamp-sized miniatures! Other members of the party who had ordered beef or fish had similar experiences. I pointed out our disappointment to our embarassed-looking waiter. He apologised and offered to bring out some vegetables. Unfortunately, these never arrived but he did make a reduction on our bill. We all had desserts which, whilst not of Mr Creosote proportions, were of an acceptable size. We left The Cavendish with very mixed feelings. This is an expensive place which in many ways fully justifies what it charges. However, the portion size of its main courses is disgracefully small and therefore we will never go there again."

"We first came here many years ago when my daughter was tiny, and were very pleased to see the Market Place Fish and Chip shop in Ashbourne is still open. We always like to have a 'blowout ' on our last night of our holiday and the awesome folk here didn 't disappoint. We had large cod and chips and some halloumi, the portions were generous and the price wasn 't too steep either. Food is ready quickly (they have a neat ordering system so you don 't have to cram into the tiny shop and get in everyone 's way). Loads of options on the menu. Next time we 're up in the Peaks we 'll be coming back again. Thanks to the friendly staff!"

"As part of a 3 night stay in Baslow, Fischers was our last night treat. Whilst we ate in a lot of lovely cafes and restaurants whilst here, we were pleased that the last meal was this one. We had the tasting menu. We aren't...great at discerning wines so the somnelier was really helpful in ensuring we had a lovely wine that suited us. Whilst we attempted to articulate what we did and didn't like with the finesse of a 5-year old the somnelier was courteous, professional and got it right. The food was exceptional. It looked great and tasted wonderful. The pick of the dishes was the artichoke. But that doesn't mean that the mushroom porridge, scallop, lamb and duck courses (not naming them all) were inferior. Even the bread with two different butters were a real treat. Whilst we aren't sophisticated enough to discern great wines from good ones, we are much better at appreciating beautiful food. This was beautiful food and they have designed the 8 courses perfectly to fit together into a coherent menu."

"We had a long walk with our Lab and wanted an outdoor quick bite meal so opted for Pizza as we'd been here a few years ago and it was nice, not this time. We ordered a LARGE Margarita pizza and wanted a water (didn't have any) and a coffee (machine wasn't working) not great had to go to another shop. The large pizza was not as described it was more like a child's pizza as you can see in the picture the size of my average hand spread, with hardly any topping. Disappointed is an understatement. Owner sat on his laptop by the door, didn't even raise his head to say hello. We won't go here again, we'd advise anyone asking to eat elsewhere, both wished we'd gone to the Red Lion instead, next time we will."

"Can 't comment on how good the fish is, as never got to taste it! What I can comment on is the poor service! Four young members of staff chatting to each other whilst I was waiting at the counter (seemed like ages). Couple walked in behind me and got served immediately. After passing comment of dissatisfaction, the seemingly most senior staff member told me not to worry about it !!!! So we all headed for the fish and chip shop next door 'Taste of the Waves ' which we can highly recommend on quality, presentation, service and the price. Really not sure what they teach young people these days. An apology would have been a nice gesture and negative feedback such as this would not have been necessary!!"

"We stayed at the Moon Inn for two nights in the Nook so-called suite but was in reality an ensuite bedroom. The room was as advertised on their website but the pictures must have been taken when the refurb was just completed as the room was not up to a good standard the bed was comfortable and seemed clean until we turned back the duvet and saw red marks on the underside of the quilt cover we questioned whether it had been washed after the last occupant. There was a fan in the corner, which was thick with dust, the kettle test sticker was three years out of date, and the plug in the basin needed replacing as the spring was broken and did not hold the water. Breakfast could have been a lot better, no fruit or yoghurt, just cereals, and we were asked for £4.00 to cover orange juice on leaving. The breakfast menu is confusing as apparantly bed and breakfast rate means continental but I wasnt told that on booking They took the balance from my credit card a week before we arrived without informing me or advising in their terms that this would happen, which I thought unprofessional. We arrived on a Tuesday to be told that there was no food served Monday and Tuesday, so it was lucky I had booked elsewhere. Think we could have got better value elsewhere and don't think we will stay again"

"for a afternoon tee with my two sisters and mama for a high-time celebration. we were booked for 12.45, we were shown on our table and a dame has an order for drinks. then she asked if we knew what to eat. After I said we were booked for the afternoon, she apologized and said she was not aware. she brought our softdrinks past, then asked if we wanted tee or coffee if someone had any allergies and whether we were obstinate or simply prefer scene. we have made our decisions and then we are almost an hour away! we asked how much longer our food would be and she said it was almost done. she said everything was made of fresh and therefore she asked for allergies and skeletal preferences. I think these information should be requested at the place of booking, so when they book for a time when they are ready to eat. this happens to other places where we had the afternoon. the food finally arrived, we had 4 small fingers of sandwich each. tuna, cheese, egg and ham. It was okay, but very easy. we also had a little salate and a few scratches. we had a scorp with each saw and jam that were beautiful. there were also two big cakes we had the half, some cookies decorated with the crazy hat-maker theme, which looked great but had no taste. during our visit we were not asked if we had a top-up tea or coffee that would have been nice. we were here before the day of the mother to the afternoon and there were 100 better than today. came away to have spent 77, feeling quite disappointed."

"The pub is decent, but the room and overall experience were very disappointing. I had booked a room weeks in advance for a special treat for myself and my partner before visiting Chatsworth House. Unfortunately, we were given room number 1, located at the back of the pub above the kitchen. The extractor fan from the kitchen was loud and ran continuously, finally shutting off at 1:15am. The view outside the window was of bins and air-conditioning units that also ran all the time. When I asked for a different room, I was told none were available as they were already booked by other guests who had specified a room preference. The management seemed unsympathetic to our concerns, even seating us at an inappropriate table for dinner until I requested a change. Despite there being few people in the restaurant, this seemed to be an issue. I would not recommend booking room 1 unless you enjoy listening to kitchen noise and air conditioning. There are better accommodation options in the area. Price per person: £70-80."

"Relaxed atmosphere , first day as you might expect Noisy disturbed night (very noisy bar)the next night. Travelodge on motorway would've been quieter . Comfy quality room although of age and maintenance of some windows that don't open or shut properly meaning they are well ventilated linen was old and creating dust every time it was touched . Dog facilities are brilliant but so they should be at £15 extra per night Food excellent but apple and rhubarb crumble average . Far too much fruit and a dusting of crumble like topping. Red berries detracted from flavour of rhubarb . Rhubarb had hard outer skin still attached. Burger excellent. Hagity pie excellent although a or two on the plate would've made it perfect . Free Tesla Destination charger for guests made our EV trip stress free on day 1 then failed day 2. Can't be relied on . A few outside sockets for contingency are needed In summary, over priced for the overall quality Walkability: Walks to Chatsworth house from the door"

"visited with our two girls (2.5 years and 9 months) to lunch in the week. we used the tapas menu for our starters, we had the Mac'n'cheese bits with buffalo dip and the bubby. both excellent, really enjoyed the buffalo dip. we then had the bbq chicken melt and the bark-stiltone cake. the girls had pieces of our plates that are good, as the portions are very generous. amazing cake, amazing chips! the wait staff very friendly and interacted with our girls who was beautiful and I think made the experience more pleasant for them."

"We visited Bakewell on a shopping trip. The weather was 2 dgrees C and raining and we needed a little respite from it. Found the Bakewell Tart Shop and was welcomed and quickly seated. Menus and drinking water supplied whilst waiting for our choice af toasted tea bread and fresh scone with butter, plus 2 lattes. The service was quick, attentive and friendly. Excellent buns and coffee. A convenience was available and we used it. All very good. We bought an extra tea bread at the front of house shop on our way out. Very reasonable prices and excellent staff."

"Awful. Definitely do not consider here if you have a family. Very loud group playing dance music and shouting. We rang and got told someone would come down- it stopped briefly but then restarted. We rang again to be told they weren’t being excessively loud and no noise policy was after 11 this was about 10) Fair enough but this wasn’t a bit of noise it was a full on party. Our son was upset because he just wanted to sleep. So we waited patiently until 11 but did the music stop no- very loud music and shouting/ screaming/ swearing well into early hours. Given earlier concerns no one came to check or ask them to stop."

"The service upon arrival was pleasant and efficient. However, we received double the amount of popadoms we had ordered, which seemed odd. After waiting for an hour without any indication of when our food would arrive, we noticed that a table which arrived after us had already been served. It turned out that they were served first because they did not receive popadoms like we did. When we questioned this, we were told that the table had been served first because they did not have popadoms. This was the final straw for us, as waiting for over an hour in a restaurant without any explanation was unacceptable. Despite the waiter trying to downplay our wait time, another diner confirmed that we had indeed been waiting for over an hour. In the end, we decided to leave, as other diners also voiced their complaints about the long wait."
