"We have eaten many many times here and this was our first time back after re opening.I usually have cheese soufflé as my starter it’s delicious. But apparently could not have this today as it is no longer gluten free I was never aware that cheese soufflé had gluten in it?So decided just to have my usual fish and chips this has always been a firm favourite of mine here. The batter was always gorgeous and light and fluffy, chips plentiful so much I usually have to leave some. Both my husband and myself could not believe what was presented to me. The tiniest very sparsely battered fish(absolutely no resemblance to what I’ve had before) a tiny few chips that were very overcooked you couldn’t even taste the potatoe. Tiny ramekin of peas which were cold. This looked like a child’s portion. The price had also gone up as well. I looked at a table next to us and three guests had fish and chips and the piece of fish was as big as the whole plate on each of them. You would have needed three of my pieces of fish to make it the same size..fish is gluten free so there is no reason for me not to have the same size fish as other diners. My husband had a crab salad all it was was a bowl of lettuce 1 potatoe chopped into chunks and what I would say breadcrumbs of crab that were barely visible this was truly shocking you seriously cannot present a guest with a bowl of lettuce and call it a salad and no dressing . We were so disappointed with our lunch we decided not to have any further drinks or dessert it really took the shine off our day. I did draw all of this to our lovely waitress and she said she would mention it all to the kitchen . They did tell her that the gluten free batter was lighter .so why can’t the same batter that used to be used on the fish, it was much nicer. She did reduce our bill but honestly £12 for a bowl of lettuce and barely visible crab crumbs is just not acceptable by any degree. Please try and get this resolved as I’m pretty sure you will lose many regular customers. I really wish I had taken some photos"

"This was our first visit to the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant, we were passing and stopped on the off chance they would have space, and they fitted us in no problem. It has the usual Chinese restaurant decor, pretty in a kitsch way. Unassuming and helpful staff, led to an unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere, some 90’s pop tunes playing unobtrusively in the background. We enjoyed this very much, starting with the special mixed hors d'oeuvres for two, the seaweed especially was chunkier than our usual takeaway back home, and we enjoyed it immensely. Presented nicely, no peanut sauce on the satay, but it had a good flavour and didn’t need it. For the mains we had sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, mixed veg and crispy chilli beef with coconut egg fried rice. Well what an absolute pleasure. The sweet and sour had a vinegar undertone and the usual sweet flavour but not overly sweet and was cooked fresh and very delicious. The mixed veg had a slight crunch and the crispy chilly beef, had a different sauce again, but the batter was light crispy and melted in your mouth. Portion sizes were just right, maybe a touch smaller than some Chinese restaurants I’ve been to, but we’re were pleased with this, we didn’t feel too full afterwards and might have been able to comfortably fit in a dessert, and will do that next time we visit. The coconut egg friend rice was really good too, very aromatic. The only negative was the size of the drinks, my mineral water glass was half the size of my partners coke and it would have been nice to have had a proper glass full. Just a minor niggle. Reasonably priced nonetheless, £48 for the whole meal. I’d definitely recommend, and we will be going back. We really enjoyed the flavours, I haven’t had such a tasty and flavourful fresh Chinese like this for a long time. Again the crispy chilli beef was so light and crispy it will be hard to beat and highly recommended."

"I visited with a friend for late breakfast after a morning hike. We needed calories and weren’t disappointed! The place is quite strikingly decorated; Matt black, LEDs, stainless steel, and lots of 90 degree angles. It stands out against the backdrop of cosy cafes and pubs that the area is known for. We were welcomed by a very nice lady and instructed to help ourselves to a seat and order at the counter. The menu is quite impressive, there are a number of interesting variations on the breakfast theme. The other side of the menu is for lunch service and looked really great also. It’s not the cheapest but it’s not crazy either. The food was fantastic, very full flavoured and obviously prepared with care and pride. The brioche toast, bacon, sausage patty, and egg were cooked perfectly but it was the details that really set it apart. My friend commented on how great the fried tomatoes were and he was absolutely right. We were in and out in the space of 45 minutes and both agreed that we will come back during lunch service next time as the menu was so enticing. I can see that a lot of reviews complain about the rigid adherence to the menu and the owner’s reluctance to deviate based on preferences or intolerances. I am with him on this point as I feel that he has put sufficient effort into creating an interesting menu that he has every right to be protective of it. Besides, it’s his place! If I was to offer any criticism I would mention that the interior decor makes the room somewhat acoustically odd, you could argue that it adds to the atmosphere though. The other thing I would mention is that I have an aversion to food served on boards. I’m trying to be more open minded but I’m not quite there yet! I’m looking forward to visiting again."
