"I had a fantastic dining experience at this restaurant! The booking process was simple, just a quick phone call is all it takes. Online reservations are not available. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, perfect for families, friends, couples, and singles alike. The staff was attentive and friendly. The portions were generous and the flavors were exquisite. "Really nice restaurant great atmosphere great staff such a shame about the food , we were expecting typical Greek food with great taste but what we got was OK at best borderline bland.I had the meatball in tomato sauce to start the meat balls were tasteless and the sauce just bland rather like a plain tomato purée really not the highly seasoned tasty traditional Greek style food I was hoping for, for mains I went for the tarragon chicken unfortunately again just really bland and lacking any real taste or depth. My wife had a similar experience with her fish cake starter and chicken souvlaki nothing like what we have experienced in many a Greek tavern on our many island holidays. Added to the bland food we had to move tables mid meal due to a booking mixup (not so much as a complimentary drink by way of an apology) In summary really disappointed nothing like an authentic Greek food we could have literally been in any English restaurant. Definitely not one for a return visit and this is a shame as the restaurant and atmosphere were great."

"we wanted somewhere for a light bite at lunch on a weekend stay in buxton. there was a waiting queue every time we came by and after we saw that most of the places were busy, we decided to just come to the waiting queue and wait. fortunately, the initial greeting and sitting was quite fast for us and we got a comfortable sofa that we were grateful for one there. the food and the drinks were nice when we got them, but the efficiency/organization of sharing the service seemed just a little to leave. customers often waited at the door or tried to pay without confirmation. not sure if the day was unusually busy, but some workers did not seem excessively happy/friendly, which made us a little unwilling."

"Just been for a meal while on holiday here. Fabulous! We've never tried a Texmex restaurant before. Hubby had steak tacos, son had buttermilk chicken tacos, and I had steak strips, tiger prawns with salad and mini wedges. Very generous portions, and delicious. The three meals and two pints came to less than £60, which I thought was reasonable. The service was good. The restaurant is on a first floor, with a few stairs to climb. I think it could be a problem for the less able bodied. They do a takeaway option, but it isn't an extensive menu that I can see."

"This fantastic restaurant in the center is a hidden gem. We had the pleasure of dining there three times over the weekend, enjoying delicious late lunches twice and a delightful breakfast. "that eat is fabulous, the cherry and spinat curry with rice yum. the special pita is very good together with the beautiful curly pommes. the sticky toffee pudding with chocolate ice cream was so good, even my partner loves it and he doesn't like desserts. the spicy hot dog role was interesting, looked like a long spring role! eating is really so much better than the pub, it is so out of place in this pub where it is constantly cold, the place is not very welcoming, even if the employees were nice. the place was quite empty next to table with loud old young drinking and playing dominos. That was good, of course. the food belongs in a restaurant, or a better care for pub. updated by the previous review on 2022-02-07"

"Absolutely disgraceful experience. Table booked two weeks prior and rang up the day before to double check booking and told all was good. We turned up and non of the staff knew about our booking, gave the name and we were told there wasn’t a table. We told them we had booked two weeks prior and had even rang a few days ago to double check due to the busy Christmas period and explained the table was booked for us. Terrible management of staff and dining, terrible organisation, nothing was done to remedy the situation and we took our service elsewhere. Thoroughly disappointed because this place had been recommended to us"

"really welcome w friendly caffe. what makes it easier to get here when most caffes are closed before the place early and out of the food, this beautiful little gem is open until 5 o'clock and with a delicious selection of homemade foods. very beautiful ambiente, servier area inspiring, recording, maps, flyer and an exhibition of landscape photos, w walker cyclist community oriented and just upright friendly. so a pleasant place to be, beautiful seating also inside and outside, bicycle stand and locks to rent, water for dogs, right skies thanks to quality! so many use single-users plastic fed pussies and plastic lids out there) not here! moreover, delicious cakes and ice cream what is not to love! thank you for being there!"

"This was a great local pub with decent beer and happy staff but things change. Its still OK with a decent selection of beer (try the jaipur but don't drive after) but it's definitly dead midweek, despite the great weather. On our recent visit with two friends we were the only people there at around 7:30 and by 9:30 when we left there were two people in the pub. Probably a sign of the times Things are looking up. Called for a quiet pint late Friday afternoon and found the pub much busier than previous visit, not packed but generally busy. Beer selection remains good but no food Rumour has it that the food was good but the pub doesnt appear to serve food anymore. The great Indian restaurant above the pub with beer from the pub remains and is worth a visit. Called on a Saturday night to pick up a curry from queen spice restaurant, above the pub. We were there about an hour and initially the pub was very busy, probably due to the sport on TV, but got quieter as we left, still plenty of people though. Still no food being served, but the beer remains very good"

"I just read the ups and downs of previous reviews and thought I should add details of our family’s enjoyment of our meal last night. Starters: We all really enjoyed the food being fresh and tasty and not having a heavy oil slopping around. The following are the positive comments made while we ate. Sheekh kebabs excellent flavour. Onion Bhajis best ever. Prawn Puri, very nice from all of us. Pakoras, really enjoyed. Chicken Chat, requested spicy, very nice. Garlic Naans double garlic) excellent. Nice quality meat throughout. Very moreish aroma as we walked towards the take away. We appreciated being greeted as we walked in. Cost very reasonable bearing in mind the superb quality and the quantity, generous. Mains: Son in law said one of the best curries ever. Grandson older said he really, really, really liked it he doesn’t normally particularly like curry). Wife said she especially enjoyed her Tandoori Chicken with Samba Sauce. I thought my Chicken Jalfrezi was as good as it gets. Grandson younger said he really liked his Chicken Tikka with Sag spinach). Daughter really liked the Chicken Korma, wonderful blended with Tikka Sag sauce and Garlic Naan. The veg pilau rice was spot on. General Note: The chef catered for all our special instructions, everything nicely spiced and full of flavour. Well done, and thank you. Keep up the high standard."

Had a vegan and vegetarian so they made a couple extra dishes of Wellington and stew, as the set menu was 50% meat. All the food I tried was lovely and the staff very helpful. Would recommend. "The staff at this restaurant were very accommodating, providing me with a table despite having two large parties. I ordered the garlic and mozzarella cheese ciabatta as well as the classic paella. The bread was fresh and soft with a crispy outer layer. The paella was served on a hot plate, allowing the juices to caramelize and create a flavorful crisp on the bottom of the dish. The mussels were tender, and the prawns and meat were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the modern tropical decor and the warm yellow lighting. I would definitely return to this restaurant in the future."

"I went to this restaurant for brunch, but I wish I could have also gone back for lunch! There were plenty of options to choose from, and I decided to try the vegan breakfast. "The landlady and bartender went above and beyond to accommodate us last night at short notice and late. We were on our way back from Manchester Airport when Baslow became impassable. No local hotels had rooms available, but after traveling 15 miles back, we found the Roebuck. Our room was comfortable and spotless, and we were able to get a much-needed good night's sleep thanks to the comfortable bed and pillows. Despite the late hour, they even directed us to a pizza place for food. We are incredibly grateful for their hospitality. The Roebuck is a truly wonderful pub with fantastic staff and exceptional bed and breakfast. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"I don’t write very many reviews and I like to also praise (as it seems to be more negative comments are more frequent to be written), but in this case unfortunately I offer honest feedback that was not good (at all). A while ago we went in to Hargreaves of Buxton, I realised it had a cafe upstairs (it was raining and nearest place to go), myself and my partner were hungry so decided to purchase sandwiches and cake. Well….I’m not going to go on about the service which was lack lustre and very “caf” like but that’s exactly what it was unfortunately. Never the less our food looked nice so we tucked in. But unfortunately again the bread was “not stale” but very dry/rough and both the cake and sandwiches left us looking for flavour. We took the food in a napkin with us so we wouldn’t offend but we then went to a nice new cafe down the town and had some delicious food. All in all I wouldn’t recommend this caf on what we experienced. I’m also shocked that I just read a review on Google and the rude response of the owner. So I was dubious to write this but never the less the truth is the truth."

"Wondering if this place has changed hands in recent times? Been here a few times over the years when visiting Buxton and has always been fantastic, however visiting on Saturday, unfortunately, for all of us in our party of 6 the food was dire. The service is still brilliant (although appears to be all new staff). The atmosphere, perhaps may be due to the cold weather, but did not have that Saturday night 'thriving ' feel there has been in the past/you usually get in Italian restaurants on a busy weekend night. The food though was just not good at all, sorry to say. Previously it has been some of the best Italian food we have had, fresh, homemade, really nice pizza, pasta. The menu seemed different tonight, and the food just tasted like the bases had been bought on the pizza, the garlic bread was like ciabatta sticks but were burnt, my tagliatelle l 'd expected to be pasta tossed with Olives, Sundried tomato etc and it looks more like soggy noodle dish. My brother in law said the calamari tasted like frozen shop bought stuff, and the eggplant ravoli had the aubergine on the outside as if it had just been thrown together. Hopefully this is just a blip, perhaps the usual Chef was off work, but to me something seems to have changed, or unfortunately gone wrong."

"Really delicious Lamb Henry (with chips instead of mash), but sadly I can not recommend this place if you have a food allergy or dietary requirements. They are trying with GF options etc. but did not inspire confidence in their knowledge/competence or communication with kitchen. I ordered the burger with out cheese, as I am allergic to milk. The waitress who took the order was helpful but wasn't sure if the bun contained milk, she said she would check. The burger then arrived with cheese on. Had this not been visible milk, Id have eaten it trusting that my dairy free request had reached the chief the chief knew what they were doing. Then when the second burger arrived, without cheese on, it also lacked the caramelised onions side salad. When I asked if I could please have the salad, onions and some mayo they were apologetic but also surprised mayonnaise doesn't contain milk. They also said the onions were fried in butter (a pitty as it's unnecessary, and means vegans can't eat them either) I really can't explain the lack of salad surely everyone knows salad doesn't contain milk?! After all this I felt like I was really going to annoy the staff if I double checked the bun milk possibility, so I just didn't eat the bun in case they had overlooked checking whether it had milk in. Disappointing, especially in comparison to the other two pubs in Chinley which have excelled in their helpful service ability to cater to dietary requirements (though only had sorbet as a dairy free/vegan desert option). On the up side the lamb Inn did have a vegan treacle tart ice cream available, despite having no vegan main course. Slightly bizar but great if you only want chips and desert I guess! That is assuming they are correct in saying its vegan I just don't feel very confident to trust their allergen listings after that experience. For anyone without dietary requirements its delicious food and at least one friendly waitress."
