"Went for the first time the other evening with friends for the one that is not a pasta lover and can't eat pizza due to a cheese allergy was wondering what I could eat (went for the 2 for 15.00 special offer which is pasta and pizza only) however on arrival, I decided to try a pasta dish (after checking no cheese in it which the waitress went and asked the chef) I went for the Linguini Pollo Funghi, we also ordered the Lasagne and 2 pizza's the Veg and Florentine All the people in the party was amazed at the size of the dishes and who lovely is all looked and tasted we will be booking again with more friends to try it"

"After the Head of Steam nearby stopped selling Kerb Edge burgers, I was unsure where to find a good burger. I was delighted when we stumbled upon this restaurant. It was quiet, just after work on a Friday night, and we perused the menu. I had heard about their “Gadgie Burgers” and decided to give them a try. We opted for a gadgie burger deal which included a burger, fries, and a beer for only £7, a much better deal than the nearby establishment's £17 for a burger and a pint! The food was fantastic - the burger was juicy, packed with bacon and cheese, and the sauce was delicious. The fresh lettuce, onion, and tomato added to the flavor. The chips were crispy, hot, generously seasoned, and plentiful. My partner even claimed it was better than Dope Burger, and I couldn't argue! It was the least greasy burger we've had and bursting with flavor. The staff, consisting of a chef and bartender due to the quiet evening, were friendly and accommodating. My partner enjoyed watching football on the large screen. We have already decided to come back next week, and I highly recommend others in the area to pay a visit as well!"

"quirky small place with a proud hull heritage. nostalgic music from the 50s and a full atmosphere. eating is homemade and there is a lot of choice. we had a afternoon tea for 2 £6 per and it was delish! fresh bread and high quality ingredients. the dead had to die, and the owner and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. can not wait for a return next week and would tell them all very well, do they please one and stop them for a great eating experience."

"We visited the Lantern restaurant on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago and had a fantastic meal and wonderful experience. We loved the original decor the Lantern boasts and we found out that it has been in the same family for nearly 60 years! The way in which guests are welcomed and the pride and care taken in the food served, you can really tell it's a family run establishment. For our meal, we opted to start with the calamari and garlic mushrooms. Both of these were delicious, but we loved the mushrooms so much we had to order another portion! We then had a Porterhouse steak each, which were cooked to perfection. Alongside these we ordered the fries, onion rings and pepper sauce, which for us, were the ideal accompaniments. After these first two courses we were too full to try any of the desserts, but we imagine the options are just as tasty as everything else on the menu. Despite it being a very busy night, we couldn't fault the service we received. The servers were very attentive and ensured we were well looked after all evening they really made us feel at home. We can't recommend the Lantern enough. Everyone should experience this hidden gem at least once. We'll certainly be back when we're next in the area!"

"Yeah I've not been in town for a drink with friends for a while, picked a hot day, only ever been in brain jar once before. Arrived sat outside, whilst a chap, arrived to start filling glasses with water for us. That's a first for me, specially in Hull, but shows the place is looking at good customer service. They don't do draught beers, so if your wanting beers, it's bottles, which we had lager, and cider. Taking a look at the provided drinks menus, there are a all host of cocktails to endudge yourself, maybe next time for us. But I can get the vibe from this place, and why it's getting good reviews."

"Firstly this is not something that I would normally do, but was just so incredibly disappointed by our experience tonight 27/10/23. Took mum for a birthday meal(85), she loves it here, but the restaurant was absolutely freezing. If we wouldn't have had our outdoor coats in the car, there would have no way we could have stayed with mum. All the customers were complaining how cold it was with the poor waitress having to constantly apologise. One couple had managed to requisition a small heater from somewhere and had it plugged in near their table. The food was lovely, as always, but very quickly became cold before we could finish it. I felt so sorry for my mum, as she kept apologising for asking to go there,. As i say, food was good but evening just ruined by lack of heating."

"Really disappointing as Italian is my favourite food yet everything was off with this place. The carbonara is vile and I’m not been rude, Rick hard panchetta, not fresh, too flavoursome too, over powering flavour. The staff let this place down, the waitresses kept bringing things and walking away before we had chance to ask for anything, this happened 3 times. They even ignored me when I said excuse me, which annoyed me. Looked like they were also talking about us from the bar. Not very professional atall. My eyes were stinging from the fumes in the kitchen and we had a window table. All in all not happy for the price of the menu and the poor customer service. I received better service at McDonald’s yesterday then here. If you’re looking for a dining experience avoid this place."

"we came for a meal on Saturday 11 December 21. super friendly staff . fabulous eating . very nice atmosphere felt like home. but unfortunately we had another visit on Tuesday, 1st March at a week night for my sisters birthday and unfortunately not get the same service. the only employee who seemed to be there did not even realize that we went in the rest and ask if we have a table. fair enough that he might have been short, a nice hallo would not be with them at a moment from a miss. I went by to say that we have a table under the name lisa. only to see no answer. hugh. the waiter spoke every English that I wandered. after, as always stood at the door, the waiter went over a table still no eye contact and pulled two tables apart. because he would never have asked that I would not get the chance to say was for four people. birthday boy was in traffic. when I said I'm sorry that there are 4 of us, he went on to put tables back together, no contact. and went away, after 10mins of satt wait he brought 2 menus my sister birthday girls then showed up and we sat on the look for 2 menus between us all four. 20mins later no drinks or even asked if we want. again, if hed only said that I'm sorry that I'm extremely busy if we were a.s.a.p with them, we would think differently, I went over the bar after more menus and asked if we should order from the bar. he said he was overheared. we all felt a little annoyed by his attitude, a very anxious, he thought he worked in a flat? it looked more like that. it pampered the night, my sister has only booked there because of the beautiful contributors from December on my birthday so disappointed that the least say. I will add, eating was fabulous so compliments to the cook. the only reason for 4 stars."

"Met my mates for lunch, Larkins always has a solid beer selection, was early but all the staff are friendly and a good laugh, went and sat outside, really quirky seating areas in sheds which is great as it feels private, ordered the club sandwich, was delicious, red pepper mayo was a game changer, my mate was impressed with the beef, the dipping gravy was good and he did a great job not getting it on his top, was the first visit for most of the lads and they said they would all definitely return."

"Visiting Hull for the first time. Fancied a Thai meal. Booked but found the place virtually empty at 7.30 on a Friday night not a good sign. Ordered the set meal for 2. Waited over half an hour for food good sign I thought obviously freshly prepared. Whilst we waited the bin from the kitchen which was full was wheeled through the restaurant. Then once emptied wheeled back through. Prawn crackers eventually arrived looked like a whole meal version not great. Eventually the starters arrived. Pork skewers which looked like a piece of bacon on a skewer one of which was stone cold. A Thai fish cake which was like a piece of rubber with no flavour. Prawn toast without a hint of prawn. Thank goodness for the peanut sauce which made the tasteless rubbish edible. The mains arrived. The first dish was bland and watery. The next two had a little taste but not great. My partner said the food has made me grumpy that has never happened. Paid quickly and left feeling sick. Headed to Tesco for chocolate. Do not waste your money."

"We booked a table for Saturday tea time for 7 people, and the booking stated that one of the guests would be an 18 month old which would need a high chair. We went to the bar to tell them we were here for a booking and when we shown our table we were seated at one of the two high tables in the whole place. There was no high chair set at the table, so I asked for this and they brought the usual wooden pub highchair over, but if my daughter sat at this at the table her head would be under the table, how were we supposed to have a meal with her like this? We asked if we could be moved to a low table, which there was a large one to seat all 7 of us at where there was one man having a beer, and the next booking for that table was 2 hours later, so we would be gone before the next booking. The bar staff said that he couldn't ask the man to swap tables, unsure why, and the only solutions he had was for us to sit at a table for 4 (way too small and cramped for our party size) or for him to swap one of the high tables for a low table, so we opted for this. However, because the high tables were up against a bench seat it then meant that my husband had to be wedged in behind the table so that there was enough space for me to sit down and not be bumping in to the table behind me. It also meant that we couldn't really speak with the other members of our party as they were sat a good foot above us. Safe to say, I will not be recommending to any of my friends, especially ones with children, and we will look for an alternative next time we visit the area."

"my partner and I are regularly at this great place. the staff is always very attentive and friendly and eating is excellent. in the offer is a large selection of vegan and vegetarian dresses of suppe, by breakfast, quiches, frittatas, egg dishes etc. most of the menu contains beside salad. when they say salad what they mean is a mixture of leaves, cousin, split pussies and shiny with the taste to max in a way that comes only from experienced and qualified chefs. we have visited many paintings and have never been disappointed. what moved me to finally write a review was today's visit. I didn't **** much, so I ordered a goat's open sandwich. sounds just enough right? what came was the most delicious dish of roasted Ziabatta spreader with a red onion cahutney and with goat cheese, cheddar, walnuts and balsamico vinegar. in the case of the portion size it is simply considerable enough, but it came with all the above-mentioned by-alates etc., so that was a meal. it tasted amazing and I can't wait to have it again. also had our usual coffee, which is also from a very high standard and is served by workers who are hardworking, attentive and very friendly. highly recommended."

"After a football match, four of us found ourselves wanting a bite to eat, and we decided on this restaurant because we had enjoyed it in the past and were never let down. I had honestly forgotten just how exceptional this place is. We didn’t have a reservation, but since it was early, we were seated right away. We quickly ordered some cold, reasonably-priced bottled beer, then turned our attention to the menu. Though the menu isn't extensive, that's part of its charm. It features a handful of starters, several classic French dishes, burgers, as well as savory and sweet crepes, ensuring there's something for everyone. We ended up ordering beef bourguignon, beef stroganoff, a Cajun chicken burger, and a cheeseburger. Everything was freshly prepared in the open kitchen and served to us piping hot. Within 15 minutes, our plates were wiped clean—there wasn’t a single thing to complain about. We will definitely be returning!"

"Yesterday we went to RJs. We ordered one warm chocolate, one latte, and two small toasted tea cakes. It used to cost less than ten pounds, which was decent value. However, now it is a steep £11.70. We used to go to this restaurant every time we were in town, but after this price hike, we will not be returning. The owners made a big mistake with this increase, as prices are already expensive. It is unlikely that they will survive much longer with such high prices. Good luck to them."

"I would like to give a 1 star review but in an effort to be fair and balanced I’ll go with 2. On a trip to Hull for some rare family time we decided upon this place for tea. All fine to begin with, our drinks were ordered and delivered quite quickly. We then waited 30 minutes for our food order to be taken. We ordered a ‘large’ bowl of nachos to share as a starter, they were tasty enough and came to the table after around 10 minutes. We sat...and sat, watching other tables around us being served with their food, then finishing it, despite having arrived after us. After around 40 minutes from placing our order, I asked the girl who had seated us Paris where our food was. She told me it hadn’t been long and we’d had a starter, before inexplicably going to get the ticket to demonstrate we’d waited 38 minutes and not 40, before scurrying away. Her attitude was incredibly terse and, frankly, crass. Our food arrived just as she left us at the table. All in all from walking in to being served mains, was 1 hour and 10 minutes. My vegan burger, with its promise of pickled ribbon salad looked extremely sorry for itself and was as dry as sticks. I sent it back and was asked by another, much more polite waitress, if I would like another plate. I thought it was probably quite pointless and asked for it to be removed from the bill. The meaty stuff my brother and partner had looked good and they reluctantly continued their meals at my insistence. We paid the £38.45 for a drink each, a small “large”!!! serving of nachos and 2 mains, one of our group having now not eaten. I spoke to Paris on the way out of the restaurant, to air my thoughts that she had spoken to me with a terrible attitude, and my disappointment as to the quality of the vegan option I chose. She was extremely argumentative, denying having been rude and clearly couldn’t bring herself to apologise for her behaviour. Suffice to say I wouldn’t touch this place with a barge pole."

"My friend suggested we try here for a belated birthday meal for her. I must admit I'd never heard of it before but I'll definitely be recommending now. Booking was super easy. On arrival we were taken to the upstairs room which had about 4 tables in it. It's a small pub but nice and intimate if that's the sort of thing you're after. The table was nicely set and had a candle in a Whitley and Neil gin bottle. The waitress took our drinks order and came back with a fruity gin and two fruity ciders for us with the extra touch of little berries in the glass with the ice. She also asked if we'd like water for the table. She gave us enough time to study the menu and then took our food order. I ordered a started but to be eaten as a main with my mum and friend's main meals and this was no problem. While we were waiting she also brought us some hot, fresh bread which was AMAZING! We had the upstairs room to ourselves for a while so could chat easily. I ordered the scallops for starter which I've never had before but which were really tasty. My mum had the pork belly and my friend ordered the hake. They both said how delicious the food was. The portion sizes were spot on too and the food was steaming hot. We made sure to save room for dessert. I ordered the dark chocolate fondant, my mum ordered the lemon meringue arancini and my friend the sticky toffee pudding. Again all were absolutely stunning in both looks and taste. The waitress checked on us at regular intervals to make sure we were enjoying the food and ok for drinks etc. By this time we had been joined by a few other groups but the atmosphere was still nice and comfortable. The waitress brought us the bill and we managed to sneakily treat my friend as she was trying to pay too but we told her it was a special birthday treat. The staff were so friendly and chatty and even wished my friend a happy birthday and hoped we enjoyed the rest of our evening. The whole experience was one of the nicest I've had in a long time. The food is a little more expensive than you might pay in some places but the quality of the food matches the price. It's a lovely place to go for a special meal. Nothing was too much trouble. I'll definitely recommend the Old House and may well return to celebrate a special occasion in the future sometime. Hats off to the chefs and the waiting staff. They're absolute gems."

"I recently dined at the restaurant with my granddaughter, who had only experienced Chinese cuisine while on vacation in Cyprus. We made a reservation for 7 pm on a Saturday night and were warmly greeted by the staff upon arrival. We were promptly seated at our table and decided to start with a sharing platter. For our main courses, my granddaughter chose chicken noodles while I opted for sweet and sour prawns with egg fried rice. The starters were delicious and generously portioned for two people. Our mains arrived after a short wait, with my granddaughter's chicken noodles served in a large bowl. She enjoyed it but found it to be a bit too much for her. My sweet and sour prawns were the best I've ever had, with an abundance of king prawns. We both agreed that we would definitely dine at this restaurant again."

"Ate here over the weekend after talking about it for I don't know how long. We'd pre booked a table for 2 using the Dojo app. The restaurant was busy and upon entering we was told we'd need to vacate the table by 7:15pm (1hr 45mins after our booking time). The waiting staff and owner are extremely friendly and polite we loved that the owner come over and asked us how we was and made small talk instead of just wanting to take our order immediately. We ordered the Mixed Grill for 2 and a side portion of Halloumi Fries. Our order arrived quickly and was well presented. When it arrived we quickly realised there was enough food for 3/4 people and the owner, sensing this advised us to take our time and that he'd provide a take away box for any left overs. The food was excellent, we didn't manage to eat it all so packed up the left overs. After another round of drinks we ordered 2 portions of Baklava it's excellent, you need to order this! A really good first experience and we'll definitely be back!"
