"We visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. Haven't been for many years and thought whilst we are experiencing such nice weather we would give it a try as the views are spectacular. First of all i booked on line and the website said i would receive a confirmation. I did not receive this so gave the hotel a call on Friday to confirm and they had not received it. They asked if i could come a little later than we had wanted and so expected the restaurant to be busy it wasn't. The table in the restaurant was fine and the views just as expected. However we did all comment on the smell it was the fat in the cooking you could smell. There were 4 of us, 2 adults, 1 teenager and a child. At no point were we asked if we required a children's menu so we all ordered off the main menu. The starters arrived; 2 of us had the salmon and 2 had the chicken wings. All dishes were nicely presented and tasty. Main courses, my husband had the fish and chips, i had the roast beef dinner and the kids had the chicken and sea bass. The food was very average except the sea bass. This was not acceptable. I wish we had taken a photo! The piece of fish was approx 7 cm long and 4cm wide in a rectangular shape and overcooked. My teenagers face was a look of disappointment or maybe just disbelief!. There was 2 or 3 mouthfuls and gone ... not many potatoes and a mess of veg. We mentioned it to one of the staff and we were told that sea bass is expensive. We then explained that yes we know that but this piece was a joke. He then offered said he would not charge for a glass of wine or we could change the dish but it would be a while. My teenager said he would just eat it. All in all disappointed and will be sometime before we try again as there are much better places in our lovely area."

"After reading positive reviews and being a foodie and keen to support local businesses, I invited my daughter out for lunch last Sunday, when we arrived we were met by a strong smell of bleach/cleaning products, the bar was almost empty and they told us they weren’t doing Sunday lunches that day as ‘she’ was having a day off. I assumed that because it was so quiet the staff had used this opportunity to do some cleaning hence the smell. Not one to be put off so easily I returned this week with my partner (after phoning to ensure ‘she’ wasn’t having another day off). On arrival it was once again quiet in the bar and there was once again the smell of bleach/cleaning, we refused a drink in the bar due to this and went to the restaurant where there was just two customers. The smell was just lingering in the restaurant so decided to order drinks and roast dinner. We were given menus (A4 sheet of paper which was water damaged and stained) we fancied a starter but other than prawn cocktail all the other starters were deep fried so decided to give them a mss and ordered one pork roast and one turkey roast without the creamed mashed, we were then told creamed mash wasn’t being served today even though it stated on the menu. The food arrived and without seeming unkind I will describe what we were served Yorkshire pudding very well over cooked Carrots boiled not a lot of taste not aldente but not soggy Cauliflower boiled not aldente but not soggy Cabbage boiled soggy tasteless Roast potato so over cooked we couldn’t cut it Turkey ok not succulent but not dry either Pork, stringy, tough to chew with strange taste Gravy very nice Needles to say I left most of my dinner When asked if we’d enjoyed our meal my partner just commented on the pork and we appreciated the chef coming to ask us about the pork, she was apologetic and said it had been purchased from the local farm shop but there was nothing she could do other than apologies. I have to say I was rather alarmed at the chef’s nails which was painted bright pink and the polish was all chipped, I thought chefs and people working with food should not wear nail polish in relation to food hygiene. Needless to say we won’t be going back and wish we’d gone in March when the reviews were raving!"
