"My wife and I visited La Maison des Bois for lunch during a skiing trip to La Clusaz, our expectations were very high but the experience exceeded our expectations! We had the 10 course lunch menu which come at EUR 295 pp with wine pairings, Yes its quite steep but in our opinion worth every EUR (and you can probably skip dinner like we did after this 4½ hour fabulous lunch!) All courses tasteful and very different in style, I would name the trout caviar with an iced cream of herbes as the most outstanding together with "a walk in the woods" commented by Marc Veyrat with our eyes closed ...! Be careful to save some appetite for your own selection of mostly local homemade savoir cheeses from the extensive cheese table and outstanding deserts! Wine parings matched the food well, both whites and the red very good locally grown wines, we liked especially the red 2006 vintage, that reminded me of Rhone - spec. the Grenache grape. The wine list gives you all the possibilities you could wish for in selecting great French wines for an extraordinaire meal including DRC Romanée- Conti, Ch. Petrus and ... Make sure to peek through the glass in the floor when having appetizers on the ground floor ... ... This is truly an amazing restaurant like no one else we have visited, with tasteful innovative food, a nice view to the slopes at Manigod and an overall overwhelming experience, orchestrated by Marc Veyrat and his team."

"We have been dining at Chez Fonfon for over 15 years, Gerard and Christine, were always so hospitable, relaxed and caring. We went there recently to find that Gerard and Christine have retired and new owners taken over. The atmosphere has totally changed. The waiters rush around and make you feel like you are an inconvenience. I was waiting to be seated and a waiter walked into me with a huge tray of drinks, he scowled at me and didn't even say sorry (even though I did) it really hurt my arm, it was a miracle he didn't spill the drinks all over me! Eventually we were seated, ignored for much of the time, no smile with service, no bread with food, drinks and sauces requested did not arrive. Even the ESF ski instructors did not receive good service (they were always treated with great care and respect). Altogether it was totally unpleasant experience, (although the food was OK) the service ethos is worse than appalling, when we dared to mention the poor service the owner turned to his partner and said, (in French) ignore them they are only four people! We don't expect things to stay the same, but we do expect to be treated with respect and care as customers, the place has lost all its charm. They now book out nearly all the tables, the rush around looking stressed, its more like a poorly managed pretentious London restaurant that a relaxed french ski in/out restaurant on the piste. Such a shame!"
