"We have been dining at Chez Fonfon for over 15 years, Gerard and Christine, were always so hospitable, relaxed and caring. We went there recently to find that Gerard and Christine have retired and new owners taken over. The atmosphere has totally changed. The waiters rush around and make you feel like you are an inconvenience. I was waiting to be seated and a waiter walked into me with a huge tray of drinks, he scowled at me and didn't even say sorry (even though I did) it really hurt my arm, it was a miracle he didn't spill the drinks all over me! Eventually we were seated, ignored for much of the time, no smile with service, no bread with food, drinks and sauces requested did not arrive. Even the ESF ski instructors did not receive good service (they were always treated with great care and respect). Altogether it was totally unpleasant experience, (although the food was OK) the service ethos is worse than appalling, when we dared to mention the poor service the owner turned to his partner and said, (in French) ignore them they are only four people! We don't expect things to stay the same, but we do expect to be treated with respect and care as customers, the place has lost all its charm. They now book out nearly all the tables, the rush around looking stressed, its more like a poorly managed pretentious London restaurant that a relaxed french ski in/out restaurant on the piste. Such a shame!"

Wonderful location on the piste at Manigod/Croix Fry. Tasty burger and chips, but didn't find the other dishes as good as some other places we have been. Also found a couple of hairs in my food which put me off!

A great place to sit on the pistes, service is good, we we were not moved on after eating so could allow our lunch to digest, could be cleaner, saw a few things that put me off going back for food, the are very busy too.

Christine and Gerard left big shoes to fill when they retired but we went open minded to see what changes had been made. We were served by an English waitress who insisted on speaking to us in French! We speak French but it was a...More

It's no secret that I love this place and Christine and Gerard the owners. What is new is the if you book they will do dinners at weekends after night skiing. We all had steak au poivre with the most amazing vegetables. A fantastic end to a great days skiing. Speisekarte ansehen

We ate here nearly every day and the food is first class! On Thursday the dish of the day was Boudin Noir and it is the best of this dish I have EVER eaten! The Tete de veau was spectacular as well. Gerard and his team are super friendly and we would strongly recommend searching this one out.

The owner used to be a butcher so everything we tried that was homemade was FANTASTIC! A "boudin noir" or black pudding that was so smooth and silky, tete de veau with a perfect sauce grebiche etc etc!! Homemade drinks were also worth trying - a liqueur made from Tansy and an aperitif of Walnuts!! Yummy

We arrived in a blizzard and we didn't have a reservation but they managed to squeeze the 8 of us in. Drinks were prompt and the service excellent. The children loved the steak hache and the grown ups bavette steaks and dauphinoise potatoes were amazing. Great value and we had to drag ourselves back on the slope! Speisekarte ansehen

Firstly make to book if you want to eat at FonFon on a Saturday or Sunday lunchtime, it is crazy busy! We ate here every lunch for a week, it is very affordable, especially for a French on piste eatery. The food is all home cooked, not your normal frozen food fayre here. Try the house speciality of home cured, smoked and dried ham, it is wonderful.

I love this place and have become a regular habituee. Great food at reasonable prices, friendly and prompt service overseen by Gerard and Christine, easy access by skiing right to the door, kid-friendly, good parking but need snow tyres of course, great sun-deck, a cool bunch of guys and stunning lasses bring you your gluwein, hot choccy etc there. Never been let down.

"My wife and I visited La Maison des Bois for lunch during a skiing trip to La Clusaz, our expectations were very high but the experience exceeded our expectations! We had the 10 course lunch menu which come at EUR 295 pp with wine pairings, Yes its quite steep but in our opinion worth every EUR (and you can probably skip dinner like we did after this 4½ hour fabulous lunch!) All courses tasteful and very different in style, I would name the trout caviar with an iced cream of herbes as the most outstanding together with "a walk in the woods" commented by Marc Veyrat with our eyes closed ...! Be careful to save some appetite for your own selection of mostly local homemade savoir cheeses from the extensive cheese table and outstanding deserts! Wine parings matched the food well, both whites and the red very good locally grown wines, we liked especially the red 2006 vintage, that reminded me of Rhone - spec. the Grenache grape. The wine list gives you all the possibilities you could wish for in selecting great French wines for an extraordinaire meal including DRC Romanée- Conti, Ch. Petrus and ... Make sure to peek through the glass in the floor when having appetizers on the ground floor ... ... This is truly an amazing restaurant like no one else we have visited, with tasteful innovative food, a nice view to the slopes at Manigod and an overall overwhelming experience, orchestrated by Marc Veyrat and his team."
