"My wife and I went for a meal to celebrate our 25th (Silver) wedding anniversary. Things started ok, ordered the seafood sharing platter for starters. I had a pasta dish, my wife the lamb shank (at £25). The starter came and it was really very good. Here is the end of the good bits! My pasta dish was fine, nothing special, but perfectly fine. However, my wife 's slow cooked lamb which should after 6hrs (as claimed) be falling off the bone, wasn 't. In fact it couldn 't be prised off of it! Unfortunately the waiter or manager checked on us quite soon after our meals were brought out. I said mine was fine but my wife stayed silent as she wasn 't yet sure. But the time I 'd eaten mine, my wife had given up with well over half of the lamb remaining on the bone. When he came over to clear the plates my wife said that she was unable to eat the lamb as it was so tough and sinewy still. He didn 't seem very happy with us for saying anything negative about the food so she demonstrated to him and he finally agreed it shouldn 't be like that and took the plate away. From then on we were pretty much ignored, no apology, no offer of a different dish or anything. After 20 minutes we were asked if we wanted desserts, at first we said yes until we discovered there was nothing we wanted so asked for the bill. He took £9 off the bill for a £25 dish that my wife couldn 't eat. Then when we said that we didn 't expect to pay for that dish he argued with us and said my wife was wrong, there was nothing wrong with it and that it was our fault! Not wishing to completely ruin our anniversary, we paid and went elsewhere for a lovely dessert! We won 't be back! Awful service, rude, arrogant manager, below average food."

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."

"I booked the table well in advance by phone after a friend recommended it. I didn't use the website. we booked for 18.30 clock at the arrival had the restaurant occupied only a few other tables. service was slow but pleasant, so we didn't...mind very happy with the meal, not the best Thai food I've ever had, but definitiw not the worst. we decided not to have pudding, but order two more tees. we waited about 20mins or something without getting any tees. the restaurant was full this time. Finally we were told that the table was needed for another booking and that the website clearly specified tabs were booked only for 1 1/2 hours, so in the round please we could pay and go, very embarrassing! when I made the booking, I was not told that we had to release the table at 8 o'clock. When we arrived, we were not told that we had to release the table at 8 o'clock. it is all very good to say, customers it clearly explained this on the website, but that makes a very big and in our case mistakenly accept that the customer has visited the website. funny enough I have not put a problem with time limits on bookings, I would rather know about it to avoid any embarrassment. it would have taken only the waitress who took our tee order to point out that we were short on time, we would have paid and left intact with ours. as last note, if you set time limits on bookings, the service must be fast and efficient."
