"Honestly , There's nothing typical portuguese about these dishes, taste wise lacking in seasoning! Extremely disappointed to see mussels instead of clams in bifes de porco a alentejana! For desserts ... once again couldn't spot anything typical portuguese, there's only custard tarts and they looked awful. Clearly in anyones eye, mainly elderly people with plenty of money would go there thinking it's ever so posh and tasty because they don't really know what portuguese food should taste like. It looks more like there's no chef in the kitchen and the poor guy heats up the food in front of you just for show off and extra tips in the end of your bill and in the end you leave the restaurant smelling of fried onions. Extremely over priced, 6 medium prawns for starters £10 ??? a box of tiger prawns at the cash and carry would cost £7 !!!! Very small portions and a main doesn't even include a side or veg . Everything is an extra. As a portuguese I must say... I won't be back here again."

"Don’t waste your time. Had a table booked for 19:30 for 4 people on Wednesday 24th get a call from the restaurant at 19:11. To say inform me that unfortunately the restaurant is having to close due to an issue. Found that odd as we was already outside over the road having a cigarette so our other mate when in said about the booking they were going to close because they were quite its only just gone 7pm in the evening. How stupid to make that decision so early. The lady served us looked so unhappy you could see that she didn’t want to be there at all. One table of 5 another table of 5 a table it 3 my table of 3 was meant to be 4 but our other mate wasn’t able to join us ; . We had to ask 4 times for extra chill sauce had to ask where our breed was drinks. Only a few tables getting orders wrong having to chasing up is. Absolutely ridiculous we order some olives I don’t like them but my mate did they were going off as they were too mushy we still got charged my mate had only eaten a few the lady serving us even said oh do you not like them we told her why we didn’t eat any yet we still got charged. The meal was ok not very hot salad tasted like vinegar when salad is going out of date. we still got charged service charge we didn’t pay as we legally don’t have ti pay this my mate did as she didn’t want to feel uncomfortable or awkward. That’s down to her but we could hear the other table of 5 saying the lady isn’t good that not what we ordered. I’m glad ti know it’s not just us. I paid my part of the bill cash yet again we had to sort the issue out I was given the wrong change how can you make this mistake when the till tells you how much change to give. A real shame as this place used to be good you would think that with everything going up that you would do your best to try make customers want to come back. I can’t believe we had to chase up our drinks, food sort out the change. Toilets are so clean the restaurant looks good very good music but the chef didn’t have a hair net or a kitchen hat on or a facial hair net on. Not very hygiene friendly tbh"

"they save their money order elsewhere. I must first be a trained cook of over 30 years, trained in European food styles. we ordered 2 suppen and 2 nets. the mothers were both terrible. bland stock has been used, no spices used...soup was served in 2 tubes my noodles were bland and the blacks and duck vert tough. 2 very small pieces of pac choi. the second tub included, like everything I can describe very bland hot water with some taste, of what I don't know. my special cop was terrible. meats bland and hard 1 and abit garnel. beef was gumy and edible that my partners, the dumplings in their suppe prawnten, were terrible and sick. kung po prawns were so sweet and not nice to eat so bind. even prawn cracker were below average. all this came to £39.50 for 4 bad dishes. wings should be high end Chinese, far from it. I have eaten and cooked Asian food all over the world in my time. next to a venue in overseas this must have been the 2nd worse. others say they went down the hill. to be honest, I don't see how it was ever on the hill. so quality 0 of 10 ingredients 0 of 10 taste 0 of ten worth -20 of ten sad it has fallen in all departments. eat them otherwise, where better for cheaper."

"We had a table reserved for 10am on Saturday morning, but we didn't need to worry because the cafe was still quite empty. Our hot drinks were served quickly by the friendly waitress, which was a great way to start. Our cooked breakfasts arrived promptly and were delicious! We had two herby sausages, two thick rashers of bacon, beans, two fried eggs, toast, and mushrooms. Everything was perfectly cooked and all for £6, including a hot drink! The cafe started to get busier by 11am, but there were still a few tables available. Overall, the service was good and friendly and the food was great value and tasty. I will definitely be going back!"

"We have been visiting the hamlet for years. The staff have always been excellent and always very welcoming. Since it changed hands we have drunk in the Hamlet but not been in for a Sunday dinner. To be honest we were a little worried now it’s part of a bigger group the food might have become a bit ‘plastic pub’ (for a better word) I am pleased to say the food was spot on, the menu has loads of new choices and the roast portions were massive, tasted lovely and really well presented. Great stuff. We will be coming back for the Sunday roast from now on"

"We were recommended this by someone working in the RNLI shop on the pier and it didnt disappoint. Arrived at 9;00am on a Sunday morning , met by a really friendly man. We had the bacon and egg sandwich and tea coffee. The samdwiches were gorgeous...perfect Sunday morning livener. Had a chat as we were leaving, which was really nice..... Why go to a big commercial chain like McDonalds when there is a lovely friendly place like this"

"Everytime I come Southend I gotta have fish and chips... its a must! I found this place through researching best fish and chips in Southend... and honestly it ticked all my boxes... it was the best I've had... good portion, fresh fish, outstanding and friendly service... especially with my 4 year old taking time on making her mind up where to sit the staff were so patient... child friendly place. I got myself large codfish and chips and lil one kids meal cod n chips too... the batter on the fish had this crunch to it and melts in your mouth, not like a chewy texture, too good ...im coming back here again everytime I come Southend... this will be my fish and chips spot now on."

"When we arrived at the restaurant, it was bustling with lots of children. Despite the crowd, the service was friendly and accommodating, especially with the wide selection on the vegan menu. I just wished there were more vegan dessert options, as there was only one choice besides ice cream. The service, though a bit slow due to the busy atmosphere, was still courteous. The food, both the Giardinera and Forza dishes, was delicious."

"It had been a while since we had been to the Rose Inn. We visited on a Saturday afternoon it was fairly quiet so we sat down for some late lunch. We ordered starters and main courses. When the starters came out 45mins after we ordered them we were a little disappointed. We then waited for our plates to be cleared but this didn't happen until our main course then appeared. The main courses were disappointing, for the price, the portions were quite small. I had the fish cakes which were extremely greasy, they were meant to be on a bed of rocket, however they seemed to have a smallish garnish of rocket, these were more of a starter rather than a £15 main course. I also tried to order two soft drinks from the menu neither of them the pub stocked, and when ordering we were told they are sent the menus from the brewery but then they don't get sent all the products. Overall the pub was clean and tidy And staff friendly, it was just disappointing they didn't have the drinks I tried to order and the food was disappointing and not value for money."

"This was our first dinner at Milly's after several failed attempts, and based on last night's experience, it certainly won't be our last. We were greeted by Ben and seated at a table in this charming and quirky cafe, which reminded us of a Parisian Bistro on the Left Bank - simply wonderful. The music set the perfect atmosphere for the evening. The menu had everything we enjoy, and the dishes were cooked to perfection. The service was very friendly and not overbearing. We had a delightful evening and are eagerly looking forward to our next visit. Thank you, Milly's - we'll be back soon!"

"We went in on a whim on a Friday night. They were full but as we were leaving they alerted us to a cancellation and sat us immediately. All the staff were so so friendly, personable and attentive. We were served by ALAN who was just the loveliest man. Food was flawless and so filling! Best ribs I've ever had, fell off the bone is an understatement! We were in the dining room but it was relaxed enough to have a pint and play some cards as well. Definitely will come back, a great new local has been discovered!"

"Overall an excellent experience. Great service, food, and drink. Lovely surroundings and the restaurant was full, so lots of people loving Billy Hundreds Fish n Tapas. We weren't rushed or hurried in any way. One drawback, because there's an opportunity for al-fresco dining is the lack of an entry for wheelchairs. Also aged and the ambulatory disabled have to climb several steps to get to Billy Hundreds Fish n Tapas. Well worth making the effort, though."

"I went to Patisserie Valerie with my son and sister today as a summer holiday treat. Was every so disappointed. It wasn 't her fault but there was only one girl serving, she was running around answering the phone, cleaning tables, taking enquiries ect We waited 20 minutes to have the table we were seated up cleared around us and to have our order taken. We asked for 2 coffees, a scone and a scoop of ice cream for my son. The coffees came out reasonably quickly, the scone was warm but was really hard I didn 't want to complain as a few items I had asked for first were out of stock and I actually felt bad for the girl on her own. Our coffees were long finished before we asked about my sons ice cream to be told it will be out soon and wait another ten minutes. The air con system was leaking onto the floor next to us and the cafe smelt really badly like inadequate plumbing we were getting wafts of raw sewage smells that were really off putting. My sister kept on saying we should leave but I felt sorry for my son as I had promised him a treat. I would not ever visit again. It used to be such a lovely place to go but it was tired, run down, and poorly managed."

"Good looking restaurant on the seafront parade across from the beach. Not a place for a cheap sandwich lunch though, more for main meals but decent portions for the money- which was lot. well presented. All wraps, nearest thing to a sandwich, were large and came with chips, classic, curly or sweet potato. Service was a bit under par and not as good nor friendly as we experienced everywhere else in the area. We did unwittingly catch them not long before closing and were the last customers of the afternoon, closing at 3 it seemed. That said they obviously let us in and took our order. We did feel a little hurried as they were clearing away all the outdoor tables and chairs whilst we watched from inside. Indoor and outdoor seating."

"Went here for a birthday. It's our 2nd visit and both times have been absolutely perfect in every aspect. Food is gorgeous, really good quality and loads of flavour. I'd recommend the loaded fries, burgers and the beef rib. The batter on the pickles and onion rings is so nice. Both times we've had really lovely staff, could not fault them in any way. Price is good considering the quality. And they do deals also. I'd thoroughly recommend going here, whether it's a random visit or a celebration. Well always return here!"
