"Brunch with my husband we booked a table, turned up right on time and ordered straight away. Had to wait just over half an hour for 2 coffees and a further 20 mins for our food. Hubby wanted the breakfast bagel without eggs...he doesn't...eat eggs. They refused to do it without as it wouldn't be a tower' he really didn't mind if it was all flat on the plate but still they refused. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast burrito with halloumi. Food arrived. While hubby was busy dismantling his dish to remove the egg (a square of very processed egg custard type stuff) I discovered what looked like meat in my breakfast burrito. There was no mozzarella, scrambled egg, halloumi, sour cream etc... it was just boiled salad potatoes, potato crochets and meaty looking stuff in a sloppy tomato sauce. I mentioned this to the waitress who said I'll check'. She took my dish away and came back saying it says vegetarian on the ticket'. So I asked what the meaty looking stuff was. I'll check' came the reply. Back to the kitchen with my meal. She returned to tell me that it was veggie sausage. I pointed out that sausage isn't mentioned on the menu and there was no halloumi. She said I'll check' and my food went away to the kitchen for a third time. This time when she came back she plonked it on the table and said it's definitely vegetarian' and walked away. She came back a few minutes later with a saucer of Halloumi. The food was disgusting and not what I had ordered. I was not offered a replacement or refund by the waitress. Then I went to use the toilets while my hubby got the bill as we were keen to get out of there by this point. Toilets were another issue! Turns out that they have a water pressure issue and there is no running water to wash hands in the cloakrooms!! So I can only assume that none of the staff had washed their hands before handling/serving our food. When I got back to the table hubby said that the manageress had been over (after we'd asked for the bill and were ready to leave) to see if I wanted a replacement meal. Considering we had already waited 50 minutes for our food in the first place we weren't going to prolong this bad experience any further. So he just paid the bill and we left. The didn't remove my meal from the bill. If you are looking for a good brunch in town try Edmundos, Wrights, Cafe Kottani or Bills for a much better experience. We definitely won't be returning to Gastono-me any time soon."

"I just wanted to write a review because I used to work at this pub for a couple of months and this is what I have to say about this place. A little background so I applied to work for the boosh bar (the owner of the pub owns the cocktail bar in bury) and whilst I had my interview they asked if I would like to work at the woolpack to get some bar experience. So I said yes and this started the worst experience of my life. First of, the landlord Graham, is the rudest man I have ever met in my entire life, whilst I was working he belittled me in ear shot of guests which max me feel so uncomfortable and frankly like a peasant. When I wasn’t working the landowner would message me on days that I wasn’t working, asking me about my during the morning and evening, trying to discuss topics of conversation which were very inappropriate and not to do with work at all. Such topics as did I have a partner and if we were happy, if my home life was good and wanted to know more than what was exceptable. Whilst still working, I put on a brave face and still went in, but was treated like rubbish the whole shift and could not do anything right in his eyes. The customers who came in were lovely and I enjoyed talking to them when I had time when the landlord wasn’t rushing me around everywhere whilst he stood behind the bar thinking he was the bees knees. I finally left after a couple months of this, I then heard that after I left lots of other people who have worked here have been through the same thing so it wasn’t a one off. Please do not work here if you are looking for a job, there are better places to work and avoid this place at all costs."

"My father booked for Christmas Day lunch on the basis of liking the new owner's other hotel. Unfortunately, the meal was very small portions and poor quality especially for the top end price charged. The soup had large lumps of fat and rind in rather than lardons, but was otherwise ok. The Gravlax dressing was very tart. The main was terrible. A small plate and it was hardly full. Small bits of turkey, one small bit of stuffing, one small pig in a blanket, no gravy as such, hardly any veg (4 tiny sprouts, 2 small chantenay carrots and 3 half roast potatoes). I know that top end restaurants often serve small portions but they should be well presented and of high quality but the standard of this meal was more comparable to school dinner. The parsnips were missing and when I asked for them I received a plate of half raw parsnips. Talking to other guests they had the same parsnip experience. The pudding was ok but small. It was not clear if coffee was included as it was not listed on the menu. We decided to leave straight away. As we left several other guests were complaining along similar lines to us. I gather from speaking to the manager that there had been some sort of problem in the kitchen. I know that mass catering is not easy but they seem to manage well other times judging by the good reviews. The front of house staff were doing their best and I do not blame them but it was all very poor. A real shame. The meal had been paid for in advance and my father was too polite to make a fuss."

"Very average service and food. We got to the building about 330 and went in to sit down. When we went in one of the assistants asked if we had ordered. As we hadn't we had to go back outside to the veranda and wait for the other assistant to take our order. We ordered a bacon bap, a sausage bap and two teas it came to £13.50 which did seem expensive but we had high hopes for the food. We went back in to the cafe and sat down. We were next to the radiator but also next to the doorway which had curtains across instead of a door. The curtains were tied back so did not keep the place warm, neither did the radiator unfortunately. The food arrived very underwhelming. The baps must have been kept in the fridge as they were very cold. I think the bacon and sausages had been pre cooked and reheated in a microwave they were hot but not very appetising. The food was served in a paper tray and the tea arrived in paper cups. I am not sure it would have been better in real crockery but at least it would have been better looking! The couple who arrived just before us had their food in real crockery. We realised this as we were leaving so didn't question it but I suspect it was something to do with them knowing the woman who served them. It was a a bit of a sad experience to be honest and an expensive one. We had also paid for parking and had intended to shop in the antiques place as well but neither of us felt inclined after that. I wish we had taken the food back to the car we would have been warmer and I would have felt we had got our money's worth out of the parking. I don't think we would bother again it used to be better so not sure what has happened."
