"We stayed for two nights Fri/Sat and Sat/Sun in the Hotel part and also had our breakfasts there each morning, AND an evening meal Saturday . 1. a The house itself: Undoubtedly a very old building which provides a great ambience, full of character. This includes the wonderful low ceilings with wooden beams. The house lived up to our expectations from the six hundred ? year old building, as did the rooms. b The room we stayed in: We stayed in room 22 and it was a much quieter room than any that we had in many more modern hotels. Whilst neither ceiling, walls nor floor was square and level purely due to the age of the building, a superb shower and very comfortable bed with clean linen more than made up for it. We had a good sleep at night and great shower in the morning. 2 Food: a Breakfasts: There is no laid out buffet, instead orders are taken individually which is perfectly fine. But here is where it was slightly tricky to rate: On Saturday morning, it took well over 1 hour if not 1.5 hours for the two cooked breakfasts to arrive, despite only one table of four having ordered ahead of us. Saying that, the host was very apologetic and when the breakfast finally did arrive, it was superb! On Sunday morning breakfast only starts at 0900hrs , the breakfast still took about 45 minutes to arrive, but when it did, it was the wrong order. The member of staff, again, was very apologetic and after another 15 minutes, the correct order arrived. It tasted somewhat more greasy, having been differently cooked not part grilled to the one from Saturday both mornings, I made the same order . This was a slight pity, but we were hungry. Dinner: The dinner on Saturday 1700hrs , in contrast to breakfast, was both efficiently served and tasted excellent. The availability of grilled options added to the excellent taste. We were a party of three and the manager was kind enough to reserve a table for us. Definitely recommend dinner: Great taste and reasonably priced. 3. Staff: Great. Very friendly and helpful; they all tried their best to make up for any shortfall at both breakfasts. Could not do enough to make the stay pleasant. 4. Conclusion: I think, the Vine should definitely be advertised as The oldest Inn in Stafford , providing good accommodation and hearty meals to the traveller. It has great ambience; indeed a privilege to stay in such an old building. We would definitely wish to return but would not wish to wait so long for breakfast. Overall, a great place, centrally located and, again, providing good accommodation and hearty meals. Still got 5 stars as we did enjoy our stay."

"I ordered 2 scampi meals. When it eventually come I thought that's funny shape for scampi? I cut into it, it was pink inside..I thought it was raw. When I took the batter off it was shrimps!!!! So I called the waitress over and told her. She said yeah the chef said got no scampi so did those, they are fresh. I said they maybe fresh but I ordered 2 scampi and I can't eat those don't like them. (What about alleries?? Why didnt anyone come out and explain that there was no scampi and choose something else?? She went away come back and asked me to pick something else off the menu. Instead of taking the whole meal away she come back with a small plate and told me to put the shrimp on the plate..had to wait about 15-20 minutes for the lasagne, in the mean time I'd eaten the chips and mushy peas which had gone cold, mum didn't eat hers it put her off. I didn't want the lasagne when it come, had it put in a container but put it in the bin. Waitress said I'll go get pudding menu, 20 mins later still sitting there. So I went to pay. As we'd had enough There was no offer of complimentary drinks or money off the bill. When I got home I had a look on the menus and it should've been two courses for £11.25 I didn't realise that. So lost out all round. What should have been a lovely afternoon was well and truly ruined and we won't be returning. I emailed them 6 days ago about what happened and still awaiting a reply."

"I had booked the restaurant based on the fact it seemed to have a good gluten-free menu there were even some dishes that could be adapted to be gluten free. I personally find the venue lacks atmosphere inside but that’s a personal opinion it was a bit more light and pleasant in the conservatory where we were sat. I made sure I told the waitress that I wanted the gluten free option as I had an allergy (I’m coeliac) and the dish I chose was one that could be adapted to be so. When it came it was a noodle/coconut dish, a bit like a coconut curry but all stuck to the noodles instead of being saucy. I wasn’t really much for it, but thats how it goes when you’re ordering something blind and you’ve not tried it before. I think when you pay a little bit extra at a place like Aston marina you probably expect a bit better. Anyway as soon as I got home I was very ill, I knew I had been glutenized. Then I was feeling ill all my weekend off and into the next week where I was still boated like a beach ball. I went in after work and complained politely. The manager completed a form and ultimately, credit to them they admitted that the noodles I had been given had not been gluten free after a short investigation. I was offered a £50 voucher as a goodwill gesture. Considering I had spent over £25 in there (with a pre meal drink) it was little compensation for being ill and totally ruining my weekend. However the manager who rang me back assured me that extra training would be given to staff so that really is the very best outcome that hopefully nobody else will get ill again. I have a lot of respect for the fact that they admitted to their mistake and confirmed that it did say on the order I’d requested gluten-free. I will use the voucher for drinks! I am satisfied with the outcome. Mistakes happen. I have been to places where a manager takes any order of a customer with an allergy and I’d recommend that as best practice."

"If I could rate 0 I would. Today my daughter and I popped in for a bite to eat. There was no room in the 1st part of the restaurant but spaces in the part which is designated for people with dogs. I’m happy to sit by a dog no problem. In fact out of the 6 tables only 1 had a dog with them. We ordered lunch and started to eat. Immediately a waitress started buzzing around holding onto a spray bottle and cloth waiting to clean asap, as there was now a queue forming. Behind us was a guy on a table for 4 happily tucking into his carvery. She kept coming up looking at him. Then unbelievably she came to our table and asked us if he was alone. When she was certain he was alone she let out a big sigh and shrugged shoulders. She then even more unbelievably went and asked the gentleman if he minded moving as he was on a table for 4 and it was really for those with dogs. The guy politely picked up his tray and started walking around with his meal to find another space. I was astonished at the bad manners displayed and I pointed out to the waitress she was out of order. She then argued with me and quickly placed another couple with a dog. That person obviously then felt uncomfortable and started arguing the point that it was for dogs. I explained I understand that but it was disrespectful to ask the customer to move half way through his meal. He became more argumentative and his wife was asking him to calm down. In the end they stormed out without eating and shouted abusive language to me as he went by waving his finger. What an absolute disaster of what should be an enjoyable day out. The waitress was totally in the wrong and ended up causing 5 people to be upset. I would not recommend this place at all and would strongly advise the company do some customer care training."
