"I am wondering whether we went to another place in a parallel universe- so I have triple checked it is the same place. We were here for what was supposed to be an evening of dinner and drinks and turned out to be an episode of Faulty Towers. Shocking food and unprofessional service BUT our sides were splitting – best entertainment EVER: • One of our party was asked if her was a fortune teller because he was brown • Freshly opened bottle of prosecco flat????? Guinness was very poor • Very limited menu of which, lasagne was dry, reheated with wilted, softened cheese on top. The pie managed the feat of having a dry filling with a wet pasty. The vegetables were boiled to within an inch of soup (my glass of water had more seasoning), The gravy was grey and awful. • One of our party ordered from the kids menu as there really was nothing he could find. Imagine our hysterics as he ordered fish goujons with no beans and a pint of larger! • The best part! The cook came out of the kitchen as we were paying and beating a hasty retreat (so I could warm up the leftovers back at home) – she was very irate when told there were 8 more people to serve. Instead of noticing paying customers and being professional, she rolled her eyes and repeated in a loud voice ‘What, 8more? When asked by the bar person if she should tell the doomed 8, food service was over, she shot back and said ‘well tell them there are no potatoes left’ and she would see what she could ‘rustle up’. Felt so bad for the lovely lady behind the bar and the others who overheard Maybe this is a one off and it was a perfect storm of an evening for them, but it was this bad. Had we not been in good spirits and able to laugh and joke together whilst on a break, I would have been truly upset."

"Grand Tea (GT a travesty: our setting not nice, an alcove off a passage, 2 adjacent small round tables, no table clothes etc. A lady (proprietor? Waiter brought our GT I’m bemused disappointed, here’s why (NB: sizes are my estimates : sandwiches 1 each x 4 fillings bread drying out/sparse fillings/bland. Duck parfait 1 each size £2 coin strong/bitter foul. Prawn 1 each crispy/tangy nice. Parmesan wheels 1 each tiny/dull. Macaroon 1 each lovely. Fruit pastilles 1 each small disc bland jelly. Goats cheese 1 pot 50g between us – tasty.Carrot cake 1 slice Mousse 1 slice 3” x 1” Why 1 slice of each? Asked lady if a mistake, she turned sharply snapped “they are to share!” Really? At £20 a pop each we get 1” x 1” carrot cake mousse, say no more! Scones 1 each good but why all the icing sugar? Jam nice Clotted cream plenty, lacked flavour. Milk 100ml per pot of tea, not enough, asked 3 times for more, ugh! The menu items online in house for a Mill End GT cost £19.95 per person, we booked for 3: I see no mention of sharing items ambiguous rather evasive.Booking was uncomfortable exacerbated by the 25% deposit. I asked about stairs dining room was suggested – thoughtful, until we passed it going to the alcove. I find Mill End tranquil but the lady host seemed rather brusque leaving me feeling uneasy. The quality/quantity/value of GT was poor overall I would NOT recommend it. I only left a tip hoping the waiter might benefit as he looked a tad worn out."
