"First off, we had booked a time but were kept waiting for our table to become available. Then after having waited for the table the cutlery was filthy and when our drinks were served the glasses were similarly not clean. We usually have a lovely waitress but she unfortunately wasn 't on duty that night. When we made our food selection were told that there was no chicken available at 7.15pm ????? We were told it was a popular dish ! So that makes it better ? This is actually the THIRD time in the last year this has happened at this Whiteley Harvester so the food management is atrocious and someone needs to get to grips with quality and quantity control and more importantly the cleanliness of cutlery and glassware disgusting. There is no excuse for filthy cutlery and cloudy glassware. We left the restaurant without eating and went to an alternative Harvester The Bucanneer in Fareham where the ambiance was totally different, welcoming, the tables and cutlery and glasses were clean and the staff member serving us attentive. The comparison between the two restaurants !!!!! We won 't be going to the Whiteley Harvester after this third experience in a year and won 't be recommending it to anyone which is a shame because it was a convenient place to eat that is if that actually had half of what is on their menu !"

"Well we don’t go out much these days due to the cost of living issues, but when family come we always book the Horse and Jockey because we know they will have a great variety of Sunday roasts to choose from. However, I always choose the Ribs and Wings they are to die for. A bit messy but never disappointing. The wife always goes for the beef Sunday roast with a good variety of vegetables and the gravy boat. We have never been disappointed, we also like the Pekin Duck Salad absolutely fabulous. Sundays are always busy, you must book. Steve the proprietor is very friendly and likes to joke around now and again. He always has time for all his customers, and will speak to all. He’ll be out there delivering the food and collecting the plates, always busy. There is plenty of parking although the car park gets full there is a field to the right of the premises for overflow guest which is safe. We can’t fault anything the Horse and Jockey do for us. They are dog friendly only in the bar but there is plenty of room. The Restaurant is carefully laid out and quite original, the young staff create a great atmosphere as they are always busy attending to people’s needs. Try the Horse and Jockey you won’t be disappointed."

"Went to Barnards for brunch. We hadn't booked but they were able to accommodate us. I would think booking would be better as for a Friday late morning it was pretty full! We both had a full English all really nicely cooked, hot and delicious! Coffee and Tea were good. All was reasonably priced for a village restaurant. The breakfast offer was varied, they also seemed to have a good selection of cake and I think I spotted a vegan option or two. Lovely place (perhaps a tad dated, but I think the popularity/food speaks volumes more than the decor) with indoor and outdoor seating. Nicely distanced tables and great service! Or takeaway if preferred. We will definitely go again!"

"We visited The Old Forge with our granddaughter and had a truly wonderful experience. We were warmly welcomed by very smiley staff, were delighted to see the largest list of teas ever and were almost overwhelmed with the choice of cakes which were sublime! I 'm always a bit wary of the last slice as there is always a risk it will be a wee bit dry not at The Old Forge! The two cakes we had tasted like they 'd only just cooled. It 's definitely worth mentioning that of the 8 10 freshly baked cakes we saw, at least four were gluten free AND properly stored under their own domes to avoid cross contamination. Well done to the owners, this place is just faultless and lovely."

"We booked another family reunion lunch at the end of December 2023, the same as on previous years. I have to eat a limited diet , fried food or fatty high dishes like Pastry is not allowed. I was thus very disappointed they no longer offered the 'Buddha Bowl ' which used to be delicious and filling. I asked our Server whether they could offer me a mixed Salad but she said if it wasn 't on the menu , I couldn 't have it ! I find it difficult to believe the kitchen staff could not have put together a few chopped Tomatoes, Cucumber , Peppers and Lettuce ? As I had to 'stick to the menu ' I reluctantly had to settle on a main meal sized Goats Cheese salad. This consisted of 2 lumps of Goats Cheese, a big sprinkling of inedible Rocket, 3-4 meagre pieces of citric rind. As Goat 's Cheese is 'fatty ' I could only eat part of 1 lump and had leave the rest. The rest of my party enjoyed their lunch but I am afraid I was still hungry."

"Went to Josie's Winchester for the second time and we were happy with the experience. You cannot book for this restaurant, which is a shame, but still works anyway, and we turned up in the morning for a table for 2. We were seated straight away and the decor of the restaurant was lovely and welcoming, as were the staff. Once seated, we were given some menus to look at and the selection was lovely. There were all sorts of treats to choose from starters and mains to sweet and savoury. A true balanced menu for everyone! We chose between us, the full english breakfast, tater tots, biscoff milkshake, oreo pancakes and a tropical smoothie. I found everything to be excellent portion sizes and good value for what we paid. Oreo pancakes delicious, not sickly and really food flavour, straight down to the soft pancakes themselves! Tropical smoothie fresh and high quality taste. Full English breakfast excellent food and high quality ingredients with the replacement of mushroom to another sausage without charge! Tater tots never had these before and they were incredible! So tasty and will order them every single time. Biscoff Milkshake amazing flavour and also served with the rest of the milkshake they made! We managed to get around two and a half glasses worth of milkshake from the one metal container. Tasty food, friendly staff and speedy service too. Lovely restaurant serving up treats and using high quality ingredients. We will surely visit again some time in the near future. To improve, Josie's could offer sides with some of the mains making it easier to get a meal! Very happy and please see the photo below to see how yummy everything was."

"excellent! everything was amazing to begin even up to the olives and garlic bread, also charging. steak was from this world and the whole vege was fantastic and so delicious. they give them two sauces to try on the side. I tried a blue cheese sauce that I would never order until now! was really delicious. the whole meal was amazing and the staff also fantastic, friendly and happy. recommend it very much. but go very hungry! as large portions"

"My wife and I were looking for a place for Sunday lunch and we went in on spec having walked past it many times. The Sunday lunch menu was very small, beef, chicken or veggie but there were other items on the menu. In the event we both went for beef and it was MAGNIFICENT! The best Sunday lunch I've had anywhere. Everything was perfect, glazed carrots, roast parsnips, roast potatoes with crispy outer and fluffy inside and a separate dish of cauliflower cheese to feed six. The chef came out to check all was good and was a lovely man."

"Late lunch on a very cold day in Winchester. So silly cold today that they had radiators to help customers. Asked for one to be moved closer... no problem! Anyway, as usual the food was excellent, the service nicely attentive, and the food... excellent! Friendly staff, and in the cold they were dressed in some nicely warm clothing. Honestly though, a nice place for a relaxed pizza and a couple of glasses of wine. Highly recommended!"

"We booked in August for a stay of 2 nights in December. When booking we informed the hotel that one of our party was a coeliac and also repeated this when confirming our reservation. One of the reasons we chose The Swan was because the menus looked gluten free friendly. In this case gfo seems to stand for gluten free omission as opposed to gluten free option! At dinner the first night the gf fish offered was small, overcooked and looked as if it had been bought in. The desserts were gluten free if the gluten free products could be removed eg. ice cream but no brandy basket. At breakfast the sausage had to be omitted from the full English because it wasn’t gluten free, the gluten free toast was burnt on one side. There were no gf cereals available. The Christmas meal consisted of a risotto that was lovely but no sausage or stuffing with the main meal and a minuscule Christmas pudding. Next morning the breakfast came with one slice of gluten free toast. Apparently they needed to go to the Tesco Express if any more was needed. When all this was mentioned at reception the receptionist could only say that her gluten free friends had far worse service at other places. She also said that although it had been on our booking for several months the kitchen were not informed until the day of eating about dietary needs. All in all it was a very disappointing experience."

"The owners of this restaurant have done an excellent job. The breakfast is delicious, and Charlie the Landlord is a kind and hardworking man who has kept the place in great condition. They are following all Covid rules perfectly. They even welcomed our dog and gave her a biscuit. The location is convenient for those coming from Basingstoke, as it is just a short walk from Micheldever Railway Station. It's a great spot to visit for a country pub experience and a few beers, without the need for driving."

"We had a family celebration for my father's 91st birthday. Originally the manager, who I believe was Brenton on the night, had placed us in a long table. The slight hiccough was there was a step up and dad's mobility is challenged, using a stick..as is my brother's who's in a wheelchair. With no hesitation, we were moved to a table on the flat and another table added to it, BUT, Brenton put blocks under each leg, so my brother's chair could easily go underneath. This is real customer service in my opinion! The food was delicious, as last time and the service, prompt, efficient and warm without being over intrusive as if you were eating at a friend's. If I lived locally as opposed to London, this would be my second home."

I have always been impressed with the quality of the meals and service. Personally, I often opt for the daily special or a jacket potato with salad. The salad typically comes with dressing, which can sometimes be overwhelming, but the staff are happy to provide the salad without dressing upon request. Overall, this is a fantastic spot for a light lunch, whether you work in the business park or are visiting the Whiteley shopping center."

"Lovely food I met with some old friends yesterday we went for lunch. Then we were all going to have a cake drinks to our disappointment they had cleared the cakes away without asking us if we might like a cake I asked are you closing? The answer was no which was a surprise as all the cakes were away. If anyone who went in could probably only get a drink. So it was Silver Springs loss as we all went over to Garstons had cake drinks and there was no hurry to ask us to leave and there was plenty to choose from.. So we will make sure if we go a next time to Silver Springs that is if we go again ? To order our cake with our lunch it was only 2.45 when they put the cakes away."

"My wife and I along with our 5 year old son called in to this pub as we were passing by, quite late and asked if food was available, it was not a busy night and it looked like every one was just relaxing, the owner explained there was only limited food available as they were not really expecting any one to dine there by that time but he was happy to cook something for us, the food was excellent, the portions were generous, and service was prompt and very friendly, I would recommend to anyone, not over priced as so many places. A great steak dinner. Thank you."
