"I booked the Wellesley Hotel as I had read the reviews and thought it sounded ok and was a reasonable price. I didn’t want to spend £70 or more on a festive tea as I had done in the past, so £35 pp was a good price. We arrived early for our seating but the table wasn’t ready. No problem there as we were asked to sit in the bar and complimentary nibbles were brought out. We were called in after 15 minutes and were advised that the lunch service had gone over time. We were to be the only party in the room for a little while until 2 other guests arrived. The room was small but the tables were spaced adequately apart, so we weren’t sitting on top of one another. We ended up choosing the champagne tea at £50 per head. Drinks came out first followed by fresh strawberries as a starter. Next was a plate of sandwiches each and we were told by the wait staff we could ask for more at anytime, which we did. They were delicious especially the small tomato and mozzarella focaccia. An added touch was a small glass of mulled wine each. Scones and cakes were next and these were also very good. The cakes weren’t very Christmassy but that was fine. We asked for an extra plate of plain and fruit scones as they were pretty good and so was the jam and lemon butter accompanying them. The second serving also meant the plates of jam, cream etc were refreshed which was most welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. We were not rushed, service was excellent and the room and table very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful and did a great job. Congratulations to them all (including the pianist). Having experienced quite a few afternoon teas in London, I would recommend The Wellesley."

We opted to have the basic Afternoon Tea and this was well worth it. The scones were very fresh and plenty of cream and jam were provided (or should that be jams and cream! . My wife could not manage her two scones so I had to finish them for her no problem there!!

We enjoyed afternoon tea with prosecco at this restaurant and were amazed by the fantastic food quality. The freshly made sandwiches were very tasty, the home made scones were delicious with proper clotted cream, and the pastries were to die for. The service was great as well.

The meal was great and as they said it was done on an Italian twist. The tea selection was unbelievable, so many different choices. Booked a table for afternoon tea one week in advance was given the option to book for adults and child and the booking was all confirmed by email. One week later the night before we were due to visit I had a call to say table had been cancelled as they don't accept children. If it's an adult only hotel then fine, but why give the option to add a child when booking? Also why wait a week after the booking was made to cancel leaving no time to make alternative arrangements for a special occasion! The child was a 12 years old but wasn't even given the chance to tell them this.

I had high hopes for the afternoon tea based on the great reviews, but unfortunately, I was left feeling disappointed. Despite rarely leaving reviews, I felt compelled to share my experience. The view from the restaurant was beautiful, but the food itself fell short of expectations. The portions were small and did not meet the standards I would expect for the price paid. The tea included only one pot, three finger sandwiches, one scone, one piece of cake, one chocolate, and two tiny cakes. Additionally, the individual jam pots were a nice touch, but mine was already opened and partially eaten. The strawberries were also spoiled. In my opinion, there are better places to enjoy afternoon tea....
