"I’ve chosen this little restaurant because it’s mousse au chocolate has been mentioned as transcendental and unmatched. Then there was a review of high praise by Alex Lobrano, a known long-time authority in Paris eating. Plus, it’s open on both Sunday and Monday – where...else do you find that in Paris? To get the mousse thing out of the way – it turned out to be very good, but not of my favorite texture (which is firm, not creamy). But everything else was as superb as it was unpretentious and honest in both ingredients and cooking, deeply traditional, but not heavy or overwrought, as it is often the case these days. First came a glass of wine. I’ve picked a Chenin Blanc, of no vintage and from a rather obscure village in the Loire. The waiter warned that it was somewhat oxidized – well, bring it on, the French manzanilla! The wine was wonderful, indeed Jerez-like, and going very well with the meal For appetizer, I had a half of Breton lobster. The smallish critter was roasted with corral butter, and served with a leafy salad. It was perfect, deeply cooked through, sweet and extremely flavorful Pintade de Dordogne, the guinea fowl, was my choice of the main course, served with a heap of chewy spelt. This was a real revelation – I never suspected a whole flock of these birds could have so much tender, delicately flavored and moist dark meat, let alone a single one. The serving was huge, but leaving even one morsel was not an option from the start Amarante is not a place you go to for ambiance – a very drab, musty little space on a non-descript street in the Arrondissement – but a short walk from Bastille, so not at all hard to get to. The menu is available online, very large and versatile. Expect to spend about euros per person, or more, depending on quality and quantity of your wine choices"

Excellent restaurant not far from Place de la Bastille. Simply wonderful food and excellent value for the quality. The waiter was very attentive and informative.

we did not like our experience at amarante. the host was not very friendly and unfortunately the food has not made the bad service at all. we do not come back and do not recommend amarante.

We have followed our bliss to the chef's imaginative servings up of new takes on classics. Unusual delightful stuffed cabbage. Incredible lamb. Austere table almost feels like a cafeteria, but the people are friendly and the food is stunning.

Came hear from an after dinner dessert after hearing a lot about the chocolate mousse, my french sense of exploration of the best dessert in town has found its day, and it was by far the best i ever had. Will be coming back to...try the other dishes on the menu and to really get a feel for the food offering in the place.

I visited this little hidden bistro to dinner. it serves traditional French cuisine, including rich callbsal served with a frit of bookwheat and cottage cheese, which was an unusual but tasty accompaniment. dessert was a highlight: an acidic lemon cream brussels, both satisfying and refreshing at the end of a rich meal. the waiter was very accommodating and helpful.

a hidden gem. after the FT review, a visit was the perfect excuse to revisit paris. amarante was everything it was to be French, for carnivores, excellent cuisine, even better ingredients. some of the dishes offered here would not find a place. outside france. a restaurant for food, without doubt, to fit with a wonderful wine list. service is excellent, while not in any way overlaid by an excellent front of the house. they come if they like to eat French and simply eat delicious (and very filling).

Amarante is probably not the place you would pick for a date, unless you're both foodies. Service and decor are certainly pretty basic. But that's all part of the concept: You are here for the food, and you will not be disappointed (unless you're a...vegetarian.. Everything is prepared as simply as possible, from superb raw materials. This time I had crispy eel for starter, guinea fowl (pintade) from Dordogne for main, and Victoria pineapple (from Île de la Réunion) for dessert. And what a treat it was! You'd better come hungry; they're not stingy here. Will be back, again and again.

I found Amarante open on Christmas, and it was minutes from our apartment. Recommended in Michelin and Fooding, I assumed it would be pretty darn good. The food was good, but certainly not something to go out of your way for. If your grandmother...was French, and she liked to cook for large groups, you would have an idea what the dishes were like at Amarante. I had baby lamb and spinach, and the large chunk of meat was tasty. My companion chose roasted veal, and my lamb was tastier. The appetizer pumpkin soup was quite good as was the foie gras pate, Desserts were okay at best. With wine, the bill came to euros. Not bad, but the meal was nothing special, unless you are consumed by nostalgia.
