"We have had many memorable lunches and suppers at Summer Lodge since moving from London to Dorset, it was always the go to place for a celebration. Honeymoon, Birthdays and anniversary’s. The staff were always helpful, friendly and accommodating. The fabulous wine waiter would recommend the best that he could offer and the food was always exquisite and culinary outstanding. Today however was quite a disappointment. Standards have fallen drastically, gone is the attention to detail, and the staff really have not a clue how to serve their customers that are forking out a tremendous amount of money to eat in this establishment. Service was slow and when it came…we were met with a very impatient and arrogant man (I believe his name was Phil) I don’t know where he gained his grades at charm school?? The service was not at all what we have previously experienced. We ordered starters…no napkins, (don’t forget this is supposed to be a 5 hotel) they arrived and to be honest the goats cheese mousse was pitiful, in total it was half a dessert spoon of mousse and loads of garnish, the mackerel was a slither with a scrape of garlic purée….it was ok but, nothing to write home about. Then the mains arrived……beef cheek and mash that was totally crucified. The duck….again was just duck flavoured pulp…the only saving grace was the dessert, lemon posset, this was really good. The service was substandard and not attentive at all, attention to detail is no longer there. I feel sad about this as SL was always our destination place to go for that ‘Special occasion’ It’s hellish expensive and you should expect more. Standards are very very low and the staff no longer come from Europe….enough said about that. All in all we won’t be returning to what was once a very special place for us."

Simply fantastic. I have nothing else to add because that statement says it all. Outstanding service, delicious food, and an overall wonderful experience. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend this restaurant.

Lovely gardens, but the food was very disappointing. When pointed out to the restaurant manager we were advised chefs do not use salt which is why the food may have been tasteless !!! Very surprising for a Red Carnation Hotel, not to be repeated.

Came here the other afternoon to celebrate my birthday with three friends and it was a wonderful occasion. From the moment we arrived we were attended to by polite, professional and efficient staff. Our lovely French waiter was especially lovely and very amusing! One of my group is gluten intolerant and she was prepared her own food all served, like ours, on a very pretty 3 tier cake stand everything was delicious. We were given copious pots of tea having started with a bottle of fizzy

We came here a few days ago for an afternoon cream tea. The staff were very friendly . The decor seems very dated in most areas but the lounge area is still nice if rather traditional. The main reason for my review is that I had gluten free scones etc they were extremely stodgy heavy , so much so I couldn’t eat all of them . The tea was very good. However the scone was heavy unappetising the jam seemed to be bought in not homemade . I did voice my dissatisfaction to a member of staff but I was told that they shouldn’t be like that but nothing else. Speisekarte ansehen

I use to love Summer Lodge and today I felt disappointed. The afternoon Tea was not the usual high standard. Presentation was poor. The sausage roll was lacking pastry and overload of meat no garnish. No garnish with sandwiches and they were few. The sweet pastries were sickly mostly sugar. Scones moderate. Wasps were so annoying that we couldn’t sit and ponder. Not the hotels fault.Although they are said to be an enormous problem by the Head Waiter. Sad that we won’t be back and actually wouldn’t recommend. Staff were good but under pressure. Sorry Summer Lodge but you need to up the game. Five star?

We stayed at the hotel and loved both our dinner and breakfast experiences. Dinner was a high quality experience, with excellent service and fabulous food in a beautiful dining room. The Duck and the Venison mains were a highlight, as were the Souffle and cheese selection desserts. Breakfast was everything we want from a top quality hotel, wide ranging buffet selection, (juices, fruit, cured meats hams, cheese, smoked salmon, pastries), with delicious cooked and staff who were happy to provide anything extra requested. Smoked Salmon was excellent and the local sausages were fantastic. Loved the Eggs Benedict.

Absolutely dreadful lunch. Starters were OK (but very pricey I had 'Blue Vinny, caramelised walnuts and chicory ' about 10g of cheese, three walnuts and a few leaves of chicory with a drizzle of balsamic glaze). Had the roast beef medium rare as a main course very tough and difficult to cut even with a steak knife, disgusting re heated roast potatoes, dry Yorkshire pudding and 'cauliflower cheese ' undercooked cauliflower with a smidgeon of cheese sauce wafted over the top. Cheese course was OK but the Francis had seen much better days. Very noisy table behind us and we couldn 't hear ourselves speak. Screaming child in the next door room. What should have been a treat for Father 's Day was... Speisekarte ansehen

Even though we were staying at the Acorn Inn, the Lodge's sister hotel and restaurant just a minute away, we decided to dine at Summer Lodge twice. It was a fantastic experience. The restaurant at Summer Lodge serves top quality cuisine that rivals some of the best in Britain. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was meticulously crafted and beautifully presented, making it almost difficult to dig in. The combination of flavors, textures, and colors on each plate took us on a delightful culinary journey as we enjoyed each bite. The service provided by the lovely staff was impeccable, just as one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace before dinner...

I have dined at this restaurant several times before and was looking forward to this visit (while staying at the hotel, which I have reviewed separately). Unfortunately, I was disappointed this time, especially considering the price. Eric, the Sommelier who used to work here and now is at The Sailing, was greatly missed for his expertise. Only one type of bread (sun-dried tomato) was offered, but they were able to find some slightly stale sourdough instead (which seemed to have been reheated in the microwave). There was no amuse-bouche. The portions were very small. The starters of cured salmon and rabbit were decent, but nothing particularly special. The plaice main course, served with goos...
