"Mon Grain de Sel proves to me that a well run traditional restaurant in rural France, serving delicious food by people who care does exist. Having cycled here from Saint Paul de Fenouillet, across the dramatic (and very windy! Galamus Gorge we found ourselves warmly greeted and soon sat with a complimentary glass of Muscat in a lovely traditional dining room. Greeting nods from fellow diners. The 20 euro (3 course menu was soon explained and we both ordered asparagus tart which came with lots of fresh frilly lettuce, shredded crudities and a bowl of the most delicious salad dressing. A generous plate but so good you just keep eating and dipping bits of bread into the dressing. For my main I had Lapin, a good sized tender rabbit leg served with a square of sliced potatoes and onion cooked in stock and a small bowl of crushed walnut pesto. Himself opted for beef cheek which was slow cooked and so tender it simply fell away the bone. All of this enjoyed with house red served in a pretty carafe. Dessert was for him a fruit pie with crisp pastry and for me a chocolate mousse studded with chocolate pieces. We had sat down at 12.30pm and two hours later we were still there with the same people around us. I had forgotten how good long lazy Sunday lunches can be. By now there was a little conversation between tables starting up, all in agreement this was somewhere special. We were so well looked after. Customers are greeted and shown out personally by madam who worked her socks off. (She kindly wrote out her salad dressing for me . I felt a little shy of taking photos of the food inside but, rest assured, it was all delicious. Served on pretty plates and a big pottery water jug for the table. This is a beautiful area and we plan to return, especially to Mon Grain de Sel."

The food was delicious (with so much option for such a small restaurant). The owner is delightful and the atmosphere was great. It was also an absolute steal!

We enjoyed an outstanding lunch here! The salades were very fresh and tasty with a delicious dressing. The meatballs and duck were both excellent. We enjoyed the service and lively conversation. Tres bon, tres bon!

Stumbled across this when we couldn’t face the Cucugnan tourist traps and I’m so glad we did. The owners are farmers and work to provide home cooked food using locally grown and sourced ingredients. Food is basic but good, portions are enourmous! Service on the slow side when we went, but we were happy to take our time.

Excellent home-cooked food made with local ingredients. The owner/cook is delightful and told us about her local ingredients. We would not have found this place without tripadvisor in advance as the restaurant is off the beaten track and doesn't look like anything special from the outside. We had Saturday lunch and the place was not too busy but it appears that evening can be very busy and so it is recommended that you phone and reserve. Thoroughly recommend this place. We will return.

We dropped in as we were driving through in a group of 6 people. Lunch time had finished but we were welcomed anyway by the nice lady running the place. The house and the interiors are somewhat worn but the athmosphere is good. Despite not knowing any french and the host not speaking any english she managed to explain the menu to us. We all went for a starter and a main course all of which were delicious. The house wine was the only part that I would not go for again. The full meal with lots of bread and wine was at EUR 20 per person.

Rather like a previous contributor we turned up at 1430 for lunch (V late for France as we were discovering) having been refused service at a previous restaurant on our route. With very good grace they agreed to serve us. What came was simple but excellent. The salad was a generous plate full of local organic vegetables, grated sliced or shredded, surrounding a beautifully made soft and light textured goat's cheese flan. It was finished off with an unusual citrus based dressing. I wish we were able to go back for dinner. If you are in the area this is definitely worth considering but best to arrive at the right time.

We visited as a family group of 6 on 20 May, rather late for lunch after driving around the castles in several nearby villages. The lady hostess was initially taken aback by a request for a table for 6 after the main lunch service had finished but insisted nevertheless that we sit down. We had a choice of the starters (various quiches for us) served with generous salads. The house wine was ok and with two desserts, some coffee and extra drinks the bill was 100 euros before a voluntary addition for service. It would be good to try dinner here and I suspect the Auberge would be a good choice for an overnight stay whilst visiting the area.

We discovered this restaurant by chance, having been to Soulatgé 's evening market on Wednesday (6-8pm, if you 're interested, and it 's superb). We booked a table at this restaurant the following day for lunch. Joëlle, who cooks and serves everything herself, presented the menu in great detail and after a complimentary chilled glass of Muscat the salad starters arrived. They were a meal in themselves and worth having if only for the accompanying sauce. As main course, the joue de porc avec sauce mediévale was exquisite. The others were similarly happy with their choices. The puddings were all superb and, at €3 each if you have them à la carte, unbeatable value. Even the house red was good,...
