"on Friday at 19 o'clock we arrived to find the restaurant with many empty tables – strange when booking for a weekend evening is some weeks in advance. we were met and asked if we wanted to sit in or outside. we decided to have a cocktail outside before we go back to our table. it is a beautiful place; outside view over the country in south lodge and the natural swimming pool and terraces below. very nice. in restaurant was airy, light and done very nice again. this is what they pay, although unfortunately the experience of eating in botanica is simply not suitable for the place itself. the menu is good. there are no appetizers, only several types of brot and the list of main courses is not particularly inspiring. I couldn't find anything I liked the look. Anyway, we ordered and were told that eating a little slow in the coming, as a large order had just been placed by another table (but the restaurant is only 10% full of the focaccia that we ordered as divided nibble, then came almost immediately (but what it was, 2 thick slices cold bread served with olive oil and, not balsamic, but a kind of malt or other sharp. it was generally quite unpleasant and we left it. then the main course came to us. my wife had something called gundi and I had seabream. the first tasters were in order (and our server made sure that they were wondering if everything was good), but when we found that my fish was cold on places, the kartoffels were not boiled with the gnudi and also not the “blood mary fries (basch chips with paprika on them) we ordered as side. yes, we ate it and no, we did not complain at that time – sometimes the ones who know that it is not so good to wash slowly over them and then they are exposed and just think about going home and that we did in less than 90 minutes. very unsatisfactory of what we had eaten and then think the price we paid £108 actually. to that end; under par and uncooked eating, no starter, very expensive drinks (Medizin cocktail £15) children run around the tables (yes, in an allegedly relaxing health saving) and a 12.5% service fee (for which we had to go to them to pay the bill only to allow us to go home). style over substance, smoke and mirror, inspiring and indifferent. we had a better meal in the garden center for £17 on the following Sunday – recommend to do the same. in the did has this latest post pandemic experience (but yes, it is post-pandemic now allowed without saying to this price) my wife has taken in the ground and I know that we go to jack-in so called fine restaurants experience as they just don't, and simply not worth it."

Fantastic food at Botanica! Highly recommend the chickpea shakshuka which was delicious. Setting is beautiful on a sunny day with seating outside and very friendly staff.

I went to the restaurant for lunch today and the food and service were both amazing. Each dish was a delightful experience for my taste buds. I can't wait to come back again.

We sat outside on two early evenings. Lovely countryside views, excellent steak, and good wine advice from Billie. A little over priced. (We could BTW see how murky the swimming pond was and how little it was used. Not attractive)

had a nice meal in botanica for our 17th high season. the restaurant is lovely, with views of the beautiful grounds and the staff are very friendly, welcoming and attentive. eating is absolutely delicious! for beginners we shared the brot with oil and balsamikum, with fresh tomato and mozzarella. my man had the steak and I had the beautiful ricotta and artichoke tortellini. delicious!

I love the fresh food and the atmosphere of this restaurant. I had brunch here and next to waiting with the waiter almost forgotten part of our order it was amazing. the picked pineapple in ingwer, granola and kokosmilch was surprisingly beautiful. Well...haved grounds for a walk forward or before. only the thing in the garden that could lie through the exchange as very dirty, so I could not use .. for a hotel of this quality I would expect that this will not be overlooked. Overall, I recommend this restaurant and can not expect to go back for more.

During our two-night stay at South Lodge, we dined at Botanica for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on both days. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a modern and bright ambiance, and we thoroughly enjoyed all of the delicious food. The staff was exceptionally friendly and efficient, and we loved the outdoor terrace for dining or drinks. The menu offered a variety of healthy and tasty options, with decent portions and a selection of small, large, and sharing plates. The wine and drink menu was also quite impressive. Kudos to the staff and management for a faultless experience! Speisekarte ansehen

The outdoor terrace at Botanica offers stunning views of the South Downs on a warm Summer's day. The staff is lovely, however, the food was disappointing. The menu has not changed much since the restaurant opened, with few uninspiring dishes that seem to cater to a limited dietary audience. The lack of variety for those not seeking plant-based, vegetarian, or gluten-free options is notable. While plant-based food may be popular in certain areas like London or Brighton, it may not be as well-received in rural Sussex. The smoked salmon was a hit with diners, but other menu items, such as the burger, have seen a decline in quality. The homemade tomato sauce that used to accompany the burger has...

We had lunch for 3 today. Table was booked for 2pm. I don’t think the restaurant could have been described a busy. The good stuff- lovely G&T, tasty menu, and when it arrived, the food was good. After a warm welcome and being taken to...our table, the service was hopelessly slow. There seemed to be just 2 staff on duty, who seemed oblivious to our presence most of the time. Shame, as, if they had been quicker off the mark, we would have ordered more drinks and coffee. We had to ask to order. We ordered one brunch item and 2 small plates. We finished and then sat with empty plates in front of us after our first course for about 20 mins, staff just didn’t seem to notice. I had to call them ove...

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"

"Service: 11/10 Starter: Calamari Duck Parfait - 10/10 Main Course 1: 50-Day Aged Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce (cooked *Blue*) - 100/10 Main Course 2: Fish and Chips - 9/10 Dessert: Hot Brownie - Over 9000! I want to extend my thanks to the front-of-house team for their warm welcome. Although we arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating. Special thanks to Irvana (I hope I spelled that correctly) for providing excellent service! My steak experience took me on a nostalgic journey—like Anton Ego savoring his ratatouille in Gusto’s restaurant. It reminded me of a family meal in Holland during my childhood, where I had my first real steak. This may have even surpassed that memory! I was initially hesitant about dining at Miller and Carter since it's a chain restaurant, but if you're feeling the same way, let me assure you: don't be. While it may not be the cheapest option, it definitely deserves a smart-casual dress code that anyone who understands proper dining etiquette should respect. Curious, I browsed through other reviews, and I found it hard to believe anyone could leave a 1-star review without sounding like a “Karen.” It’s important to take reviews with a grain of salt—this is truly a fantastic restaurant! In summary, if you're a fan of steak, this place will take great care of you and provide excellent recommendations for how to enjoy your meal just the way you like it. Perfect!"
