"Well we are just back from a weekend in Derbyshire and this hotel? was the place we stayed at. We had booked with no expectations as the price for three nights was approx. On arrival you have to go into the pub area so...we waited at the wait to be seated point not knowing where we needed to check in it was a football match night so the pub was busy two server walked past us not saying anything, a person approached I guess it was her responsibility to meet and greet not the other two's she led us through the bar area to a check in desk near the exit door, we were greeted by another member of staff who checked us in taking our payment in full, note that this included three continental breakfasts, she took us out of the pub and across the way to the hotel oh my goodness this was not a very good first impression! The hotel entrance is key controlled which we were given along with our room key the building is a relatively new building but is was dark and foreboding here is the catch the main entrance is not the entrance for the hotel! That is to the right hand side of the building which once you enter is shared I guess with another company/accommodation set-up. On entering it smelled smoky and was gloomy/tired looking, we walked up the stairs to our room number and initially on entering thought oh no! Once in though the room was huge it contained a queens side bed which was freshly made and very comfortable the furniture was very tired and the decor needs a refresh too. The bathroom was clean and spacious towels were fresh and clean, the shower is an over bath type and worked well the bath though moved a bit and creaked as if it was going to crack under foot! So breakfast or lack of breakfast on the way to the hotel the staff member was asked where we should go to get breakfast only to be told there was no breakfast chef so none available and that we would be refunded, asked about alternative breakfast locations nearby she promised to put a note under the door later (it never arrived). On Sunday our last night we popped into the pub just to confirm the arrangement's for dropping the keys off (a letterbox in the lobby) the same lady said ah Im glad you popped in we need to sort your refund, this was done and apologies again offered for the lack of breakfasts. Overall the room was comfortable and clean but as I said a bit tired looking. It was ideally situated for our purpose of visiting family exploring the area. The motto here is you get what you pay for the covid situation has to take some responsibility I guess but come on Marston's give the place some TLC."

Two steaks were ordered. My partner's were nearly raw and lukewarm. Mine was so fatty, I couldn't even cut it with a steak knife. I ordered an aged beef ribeye and had to send it back because it was cloudy and the taste was off. It was especially disappointing because this is my go-to pub and all I wanted was a nice, relaxing meal. Instead, I spent more time complaining than actually eating. This is not what I consider a pleasant night out.

When you eat out you should manage your own expectations and to he honest, if I visit a chain pub they aren't set too high. The Boundary is a Marston's pub, the pub is ok, it has a decent size function room, the bar has...a kids play area. The food didn't look as good as the picture on the glossy menu. To be fair, it tasted quite nice but the size of the plates and portions was a little disappointing. Sometimes all it takes is a tiny bit of garnish to make a plate look more interesting, like a little bit of salad or coleslaw, anything to fill the empty white space on a plate that is already limiting portion size. We'd booked a nights stay at the hotel which was very nice, but the pub itself is terrible. We've been years ago and it was great but standards seem to have dropped since then. Marstons Inns website recommends that you book a table for your...evening meal which I duly did two weeks before we arrived. Due to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme (which was the reason we booked for a Monday) the place was getting busy by when we went for a drink. Whilst queuing someone shouted out if you want to eat inside as rain was forecast to get your table now. My husband mentioned that we had a table booked for no you haven't' was the reply. The Boundary, Alfreton Oct Stayed here for nights for a nearby family christening. We were pleasantly surprised with the accommodation; our large spacious bedroom was light and airy with opening windows, and had loads of cupboards and wardrobe space with hangers. There...were cups and saucers, not big chunky mugs, glasses (not plastic and plenty of tea, coffee sachets, and. complimentary biscuits and sweeteners and a spotless kettle which was easy to fill from the bathroom sink. We visited the Boundary for a Sunday lunch whilst visiting the area, having stayed at this venue on several occasions in the past we were satisfied with the food served. Not this time!!! On Sunday May we arrived and was greeted by a very...polite young lady who lead us to our table. The young lady that came to take our order was untidy, she wore leggings that were too small, holes in one leg, were such a tight fit we could see her skin through them.
