"what a perfect small place to dinner was that, on a cold and windy november evening. a warm welcome was found, along with beautifully placed hooks for hanging coats near your own table! the service was absolutely at the point, with exactly the correct amount of attention to exactly the time without being rushed at all. it was pointed out about the rough time required for preparing our network, which was both helpful and appreciated. the lamm en croute was a manifestation of how tiny packages of everything that makes a warm dinner on a winter evening cozy. the baked fell wonderfully apart and let the content simply melt into the mouth. kartoffeln dauphinois were light and perfectly balanced, green bohnen al dente but still delicate and tasty. the gravur broke my mind. the desert was perhaps the finest celestial pavlowa that I have eaten. light and yet filling, beautifully plated, and sweet but not overpowered. Perhaps the only part of the experience that overcrowded eating was the nice welcome and friendly seclusion of the staff (one of them I would assume was the owner or manager). back to the cold night, our departure reminded of the farewell from friends after a nice homemade dinner, and I cannot rely on a better accolade in this review than that. ten out of ten."

"I had passed this coffee 'shack ' everyday on my early morning coastal walks but it wasn 't until we were leaving that I finally persuaded his nibs to stop here. We will be back next time we are in IoW! Delicious raspberry white chocolate sponge for me the breakfasts though looked smelled delicious. Yes, there is a fantastic view but to be honest the quality of the cake I suspect the rest of the food sets this place apart from many coffee shops. The number of reserved tables demonstrates, how popular this place is well deserved."

"Had a lovely meal at the Coast bar, we had mussels which were delicious and steak which was also great! Cooked to a perfect medium rare, only problem was I hate garlic and made the stupid mistake of not asking for the garlic butter to be left off. But I ate it anyway as punishment for being so stupid. Service was great and we thought that the prices for such a nice restaurant where very reasonable, even the drink prices were great, would definitely recommend."

"I am 58 years old and I have estimated that in that time I have had thousands of roast beef dinners, The Portland's roast beef is the best I have ever had, perfectly medium rare, perfect veg and a great selection of real ales. Now we have all been to a pub and had a nice meal then gone back a few months or a year later, the management or chef has changed and the quality has gone downhill, not here I have been going for the last 7 years and every time it's amazing, I think they have chained their chef to the cooker because it's the same one! I recommend this pub to all my friends and family and we keep returning. Thank you for another lovely meal and great service. Please could you move the whole pub to the mainland so we can go weekly : p.s. Please bring the same chef!"
