"wenn,ve learned tonight Not top Trust The Star Rating. we ordered rilette der canard AS a Starter, minced beef Thai Style and beef tartar. The rilette was ok. the minced beef a pure Desaster, meetpices Simmering i lot of brown goja of Sojasauce. Thai noodles Serverad a Part coolked With some vegetables, mostly bambooshots. Uneatabel. I Still Wonder what kind of meat they used to the tartar ? The worse tartar i Ever got during many Yeard traveling in France. For THE seasoning i got lot of capers, less minced cucumber more than less minced onions, Tabasco and worcestersauce. No .dijonmustard. On top of it, The service could also be improved."

This is the place we come to for ice cream whenever we're in Saumur although the dinner menu does look good. Staff are always friendly, helpful, and prompt.

My partner and I came for a glass of wine and to watch the sunset. We ended up sharing a cheese plate because it looked so good. Lovely place, we'll certainly go again.

Attentive friendly service. Good value and wide menu that will appeal to all tastes. Small criticism - take the specials off the menu on week ends when they don't apply.

Enjoyed two dinners here during my 6 nights in Saumur. Pleasant outdoor dining with staff very well co-ordinated to insure good service. Food quite pleasant. Nice setting.

Good food, with choice for every taste, very attentive staff. If you don't enjoy eating outside you can visit the dinning room which is nicely arranged. When seated outside you can look over the river and enjoy the scenery.

Went here for Birthday lunch for our son who is 14. We didn't book, got a nice table outside. Service and food was excellent. They also do a very nice 3 course lunch for 15 Euros. Great location and a good all round experience.

The meals we had on our first visit were superb. In particular the Fish and Chips which consisted of hand crumbed and grilled white fish. However, on our second visit the fish had morphed into a triangular bird 's eye battered piece very disappointed. However, i would visit again and all in all very pleasant.

The place was fairly busy at lunch time and looked like a good place to have lunch. The waiters were prompt and friendly. The menu was typical for the type of restaurant. The food wasn't particularly good though. We've had better steak at similar restaurants. The same holds for the tuna. It wasn't very bad either and the price was ok. All in all a decent place for lunch if you do not expect too much.

The menus had changed from those of previous years and seemed to reflect simpler and less tasty food. There are other restaurants offering more traditional and satisfactory fare at similar prices close by.Having arrived as the first guests service seemed assured but gradually fell off so that the dessert course (part of a set meal) took over 45 minutes to come. A protest after 25 minutes was met by the disconcerting 'we are very busy' which obviously had no effect. It seems a familiar problem that servers had no responsibility for nominated tables/ customers. We shall not return.

"This is my third visit to Gambetta over many years. It has been consistently serving great experimental food , and with all great experimentation there are occasional things that do not work but that is acceptable. In general what works here is almost everything and there is a richness of variety and the experience is over all very enjoyable. I have always thought that thier tasting menu was what to go for because this is where you want to experience the wide repertoire. So the mise en bouche was remarkable with crab meat wrapped with smoked salmon and a delicious oyster amongst others. This was followed by a starter which was a modern take on Paella and this was very effective. John Dory based plate followed and then a sort of 'panache' of three different bits of lamb including some offal which is not to everyone's taste. The dessert was a mixture based on lemon and was excellent but what didn't work was the wasabi 'creme brule'. This was indeed an amazing gastronomic experience. I chose the wine pairings with the meal chosen by the restaurant. This cost and extra 43 Euro per person for 4 glasses of wine of 10 cls each. This was not good value. The wine with the starter was a rather indifferent wine from the south west of France which was a blend of Ugni Blanc. The wine with the John Dory was a good Graves. But the greatest disappointment was the red which was a Morgon 2010 followed by a pleasant sparkling Saumur with the dessert. So why was the wine so disappointing in a region that is so rich with all sort of wines a sthe Loire valley? Why was there no dessert wine from Vouvray or cotes de Layon with the dessert. I already had a pink sparkling Saumur as an apparetif and another sparkling one with the dessert simply was an anticlimax. As to the red wine, this was unpleasant. The reason for this I suspect is that the wine has been opened more than 24 hours before and then treated with a vacu-vin. This method leaves a wine that looses it flavour but maintains all the heaviness. There is a distinct character to such a wine. I commented on this to the waiter and did not drink the wine but there was no reaction from the waiter or the owners and no attempt to address this in any way. A similar experience had occurred to me previously in a previous visit in which I mentioned this to the waiter who told me there was nothing wrong with the wine and refused to replace it. So this experience would not put me off Gambetta because of the quality of the food. What it would do however is to avoid the wine pairings and choose from the extensive and great wine list with numerous half bottles. I would advise others to do the same."
