"We took a short weekend break for my parents wedding anniversary and booked all three rooms at Cross Lanes. On arrival Ellen and Billy and just the most welcoming hosts and simply cannot do enough for their guests. Even to the point of supplying us dog beds for the two spaniels we had with us. The food is fantastic from the home cooked breakfasts to the evening cheese boards and snacks. Local craft beers and locally sourced coffees are just some of the great beverages but the cocktails are also fantastic. The rooms are spacious and very welcoming with great en suites and incredibly comfortable beds. If you would like a great location for a weekend or mid week break we cannot recommend it enough. We will certainly go back."

This place is amazing. It was so beautiful and relaxing. Billy Ellen are wonderful hosts and make you feel right at home. The rooms are spacious comfy. The best thing is being able to have a glass of wine in front of the fire in the bar. Thank you Billy Ellen for hosting!

Highly recommended. We stayed 2 nights end of May. We have only praise. Ellen Billy were perfect hosts. A National Trust House. Super comfy bed. Great breakfasts, great cocktails in the evening. We have just returned from a truly wonderful stay at Cross Lane House. From being warmly welcomed with a cup of tea in front of the fire, to a delicious supper, the two nights were perfect. Ellen and Billy have made this small hotel into such a lovely and comfortable place to stay so many little touches make it very special. We also loved the breakfasts which set us up for long walks in the stunning surroundings of Exmoor. Thank you so much, Ellen and Billy your attention to detail is faultless and we cannot wait to return.

We stayed for 2 nights in February and had an amazing time. The room was great and we enjoyed relaxing in their bar in the evening. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great but it just gave us a good excuse to stay at the hotel and enjoy the comfortable space, drinks and warm fire! Ellen and Billy went above and beyond to make sure we were happy during our stay and we loved the hearty breakfast in the morning. They offered advice for where to walk and visit and were always on hand to help with anything. We loved our visit and look forward to a visit in the future!

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
