"We booked a table for Sunday lunch to be told the meat was lamb, explanation later. Walking into the pub we were greeted and made welcome by the owner. The waitress, Clio, showed us to our table. It transpired that the pub has a small menu and today, Sunday, the lunch was lamb; accompanied by carrots, cauliflower cheese, roast and new potatoes, and gravy. The meal was plentiful and tasty; this was home cooking, none of your off site cooked and then brought to table food you often get in big chain pubs. Take it from us if Carling did Sunday lunch they probably couldn’t do one as nice as this one. Again the desert was limited for choice, an almond flavoured, jam sponge with custard (or ice cream, and likely as not both if you so desired) or mince pie, again with a choice of topping. All rounded off with coffee of one’s choice. Now not to decry the the Foxhounds in anyway, this is not your normal pub fare, this is more like being invited to your parents or friends for lunch good food, simply prepared. Our waitress was charming and couldn’t do enough for us throughout our stay. Located on Biddulph Moor the pub enjoys a delightful rural setting; sat out here on a summer’s day must be a delight. An added incentive is likely the beer, as the owner took pride in his beers and the tip top state he kept them in. I can confirm that his wines are nice too. This was our first visit to the Foxhounds, but as Arnold Schwarzenegger might have said “we will be back!”"

Sadly this pub does not provide food (meals) nor do they permit dogs inside. Their choice of course, mine is to spend my money elsewhere.

Lovely welcome. Very very obliging and the young lady serving was a delight and brought our rescue dog a bowl of water. The chips are to die for too ! Thank you. Regards Annette

Very disappointed to find that this pub is not dog friendly. Dog walking country and not dog friendly. when booking our holiday cottage we were led to believe it was dog friendly!

Very friendly, we say in the marquee as we had a pooch with us, but we were made very welcome and were quite cosy. We had a very nice roast chicken, a few too many potatoes for us with roast, new and mashed! Plus bread sauce! But all very tasty, we could have done with a little more gravy but that was minor.

Enjoyed a table in the beer garden with friends and we couldn’t have had a better experience . The food was simple but delicious , service and friendliness couldn’t be bettered. Haven’t put much on trip adviser over covid but simply had to say what a gem of a pub this is , will be returning most definitely .

Lovely find today for Sunday lunch. Warm hosts, cozy pub vibes super chilled atmosphere. Spoke to the owners Mike and Jean, really interesting to hear their story, super friendly chap. Cleo who served us was just gorgeous, very efficient and polite. Will be paying them another visit soon hopefully. Downside is a no dogs indoors policy which wot suit everyone unless you ditch the dog for a day off!

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
