"My sister insisted we came here for her birthday lunch... despite me trying to get her to go elsewhere. Her choice. Was a palaver trying to book online but managed to get 11.30 lunch slot for 4. Then we were told full menu wasn’t available until 12. Ridiculous. Only light bites available between breakfast and full lunch menu??? Why doesn’t it say that when you book online???? Anyways, persuaded the delightful Lyndsay (waitress) we would just have drinks until full menu became available. I had the cheese and onion quiche, Sis the steak pie, hubby the burger and brother in law the curry chicken breast. My quiche was delicious, paltry amount of salad with it, and why bread and butter?? Hubby’s burger was tough and dry, Sis’s steak in her pie was too salty. Think bro in law got the best deal with his chicken curry!! Ordered a pavlova for Sis and hot chocolate fudge cake for bro in law , and a portion for hubby and I to share. Thank goodness the cafe is part of the government scheme ‘eat out to help out’. We paid half price for the meals which I think was a fair price for what we had. Sis’s pavlova was one meringue shell with some fruit on top and some whipped cream at the side. For £4.80? The dearest dessert on the menu?? Can’t fault the waitress service. That was exemplary. But the food is average. So much better at nearby Kilnford Barns and elsewhere."

I have always had good food here. But on this occasion it was a disappointment. I had a ham pickle toastie and before I could start to eat it there was clearly a strand of hair on the toastie. Therefore I didn’t enjoy my lunch as I normally do.

Visited with my friend for lunch yesterday and the waiting staff (I think Mandy and Linda) couldn't have been more helpful. I'm sure there have been big changes due to covid and they are working hard to give customers a good experience whilst learning new technology. Both staff members were polite and professional. The quiche I had was delicious!

I used the cafe/restaurant today and it was the first time I have used it since COVID-19 measures have been put in place. The cafe was clean and the organisation of getting people to tables etc was well thought out. The menu was very minimal compared to previous visits and wasn’t very appealing. This cafe normally attracts older clientele due to the nature of the shop but I don’t think they’ll be as busy as what they used to be now they aren’t selling the food people came for.

Often use Gardenwise for Plants etc, can be pricey but good choice .Driveway into it has no lighting and when I got our car 2 other people commented on it also .. And also how dark the car park was... Due to this I told one of the staff , but was told I would have my headlights on so how could I not see ... Explained bout other 2 people too and others have commented in past .. Said she’d pass it on , but doubt it!! On way out had to watch where I was walking!!! Light it up Gardenwise before someone hurts there self or there’s an accident !!!

Absolutely terrible food! We had the roast beef dinner on Sunday 30th August. The food was cold. Veggies were rock hard and so was the potatoes. They have the cheek to charge you £12 for this appealing food. We won't ever be back as long as its like this. Since the change over in ownership the restaurant is one of the worst I have ever been in for food. It has always been slightly over priced but at least the food was tasty before. I would have complained in the day but the ladies are very nice in ho work there and I'm pretty sure it's not down to them that the foods so bad.

The new covid protection worked well and I felt comfortable eating there, however, the food was overpriced and poor. I ordered cheese and ham quiche with salad, coleslaw and new potatoes. It was supposed to come with a chunk of freshly made bread, their description. The salad leaves were a mushy lump and not edible with one cherry tomato cut in half, bits of radish and cucumber, there was about a teaspoon of coleslaw that looked tired and three dreary looking new potatoes. The slice of quiche was edible. To the side was a slice of bread cut in half. Really, this meal was not good value and disappointing. I'm a long standing customer of the garden centre and cafe but I won't be visiting the ca...

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
