"Based on the good reviews here, we tried this place for lunch. Really interesting menu and friendly staff. The place was packed on a Monday lunch time, which must say something. I had the Seafood Platter, my son had a salt beef sandwich and my husband had the potato skins. We were all very pleased with our food. Two of us were tempted by delicious looking (and tasting) cakes....enough said. We will be back, and soon."

"I have wanted to visit this cafe for a while so popped in for a light bite. My falafel Buddha bowl salad was reasonable; red onion, peppers, beetroot, diced tomatoes and cucumber with a very tasty hummus. Falafel was good. But overall it was somewhat plain, unexciting. No roasted seasonal veg or herby dressing which would have enhanced the flavour either. It just lacked wow factor. My daughter’s bagel seemed rather processed- lots of fake meat and no healthy salad. Disappointing. The cafe is quaint but often very busy, chaotic and loud. The owner was rushed off her feet, staff super pressured so it just wasn’t easy to relax. The tables are squashed together, and they spent time moving furniture around to accommodate customers which I felt was a little invasive when there is limited personal space. I’m vegetarian but try to eat mostly a plant based diet overall. I just didn’t feel the food was particularly flavoursome or had much of a health focus. I ordered a Japanese cherry tea which never turned up. The coffee was tepid and tasted only of soya with no deep coffee flavour. They were just too busy, I could see. The staff were friendly, it’s a pleasant little place, but I’m not sure I would return.. I think it would be better at a quieter time for coffee and cake."

"We took our granddaughter for lunch. and we all loved it! We 've been before several times, but this is the first time since the last lockdown. We were so pleased to find that there is still such a friendly welcoming atmosphere, and the homecooked food is just as tasty. Although our first choice (giant scotch eggs) weren 't available when we visited, our second choices were just as delicious. Our granddaughter had a lovely homemade sausage roll with salad (with a tasty 'after eight ' hot chocolate drink) my husband had the magnificent ploughmans with salad, and I had a yummy cheese scone with salad and pickles, together with a comforting pot of Pluckley tea each. A relaxing eating experience, all at good prices, with 1940s background music, and friendly, cheerful and attentive staff. What more could you ask? We loved it."

"First time visit on Sunday 10/09/23 very impressed with the Sunday roast I had roast lamb and the cauliflower cheese on the side, vegetables were perfectly cooked and my garlic mushrooms starter was tasty too. Dessert was nice but my only little criticism would be the crumble was not like a traditional crumble as the crumble was literally just pale crumble so not baked or browned at all on the top never had crumble like that before, but the fruit tasted nice all the same and the custard was lovely. The drinks were cold and fresh. Staff were friendly and attentive. Glad I finally came in after passing on many occasions will return again soon to try other food on your menu and for more drinks."

"The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, but their quality can be inconsistent. My dish was like an average chow mein, not exactly what I had expected. However, it was still decent. The sweet and sour chicken in my partner's dish was delicious, but the stir-fry vegetables were undercooked and the rice was too peppery. The aromatic duck was tasty, but could have used more accompaniments like pancakes, sauce, cucumber, and spring onions. The warm beers were a disappointment for the beer drinkers in our group, especially as some beers are best served cold. Overall, our experience was a mixed bag. We may opt for local takeout options in the future instead. The service was lacking, with young staff members who seemed uninformed about the menu and drink offerings, leading us to question if the usual managers were absent. Unfortunately, the service was slow, unprofessional, and somewhat lazy, with a lack of attention to detail. It's worth noting that the gluten-free sweet and sour chicken may not be truly gluten-free, as it appears to be battered in regular batter. When we asked the waitress about this, she was unable to provide any clarification."
