"At the bar, drinks were being poured and the girl mentioned that the cocktail would take a while to be brought to the table. There were a total of 9 people in the bar/lounge area with three servers. After 15 minutes, I noticed the bartender folding napkins and asked for the cocktail. He gestured towards the bar where the girl had been standing before serving other customers. The bartender seemed disinterested and gave me a look as if to say, "How dare you ask?" In the restaurant, which had 5 dining tables, my daughter requested a Hendrick's gin and tonic but the server had never heard of it. She suggested a Bombay Sapphire instead, but they were out of that too. My wife asked for black pepper, but the server claimed they only had white pepper in the shaker on the table. Midway through the meal, the restaurant managers ran by and inquired about the missing black pepper. Eventually, a server brought a pepper pot to the table and mentioned that it took so long because they didn't know how to open it, but it turned out to be a pepper grinder. Despite the food being good and the service friendly, the staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing. This particular location, the Marriot Highcliff Hotel in Bournemouth, does not live up to the standards of the Marriot Group. It lacked a sense of responsibility and interest, giving off a poor impression overall. A bizarre and disappointing experience."

The restaurant offers top-notch local ingredients and exceptional service. The added bonus of a beautiful sea view only enhances the dining experience.

Later booked, but they were very accommodating for me and my partner. Service was excellent and has not visited us to finish our meal as we have previously experienced in other restaurants.

We ate from the Dorset menu, mackerel from Chesil Beach and the fresh Pollock were delightful. The flavours were super, the fish really fresh. Super puddings to finish. Worth every penny. Service was super.

The dining room at the hotel was satisfactory, but lacking in ambiance due to its large size. The Rump Steak, beef burger, and sea bass special were all well-prepared and delicious. The service was attentive and friendly.

I booked a table for dinner online, when we arrived we were told we didn't have a booking but were squeezed in. We ordered a bottle of wine and were given some bread, we ordered our food which after eventually arrived over an hour later dry and overcooked. Terrible food and awful service, would definitely not go back.

The restaurant 'lost ' our booking and tried to palm us off with an inferior table despite my advance request for one with a view. To be fair, every effort was made to solve the problem once I made it clear that I wasn 't just making a noise to get a better table. Unfortunately, though, the overall standard of service at the hotel restaurants remains utterly unacceptable.

My husband and I were staying at the hotel, so booked a table in the restaurant. On arrival we were show to a central room table although I had asked for a window table and one remained empty the entire time we were there! The restaurant was busy with several large groups and these seemed to delay service. The starter and dessert we very good, but I felt the steak let them down as a main course, not the best I have had and I asked for medium and it was definitely rare. It also felt that tap water was rationed as our glasses were only filled to one third each time we requested a refill. The staff were trying but over run by the groups.

We stayed as guests at the Marriott Hotel and were looking forward to eating at this restaurant. Friday night 10th April was relatively quiet approx. 15 diners in total. The decor was uninspired and looked dated. No music so lacked ambience despite nice view over sea. Experience let down by poorly trained waiters (fingers on plate/sauce, no charm/welcome, etc. we felt they all preferred to have the night off. We picked the set menu but what a mistake felt like the food had been prepared in advance by a chef who was catering for the 'coach party crowd ' (tasteless/overcooked . With a bit of passion, a face lift, and cookery skills this restaurant could be so much better... avoid until then...

Whilst we had a relatively nice meal at the Highcliff Grill in Bournemouth, I ordered Steak Medium Rare, and it turned up medium to well done, and when our starters came out they were initially taken to the wrong table, then back to the kitchen before coming to us a couple of minutes later which mean't my starter was just warm, although still nice. When ordering a Dessert I liked the sound of the Chocolate Pudding with Cherry Compote, on ordering it they said it takes 30 minutes to prepare, this is not mentioned on the menu, if they did this I could have ordered same time as my main so it then could have been ready to serve. Our Waiter was on his first day and this was obvious by a number of...

"One of the best steak houses I've ever been to! I highly recommend this restaurant. I made a booking for one last minute and they accommodated me quickly. Unfortunately, when I arrived and was shown to my table it was laid up for two and the waitress even put down a second menu. I chose what I wanted and was seen to quite quickly. Despite ordering a glass of wine, one starter and one main, the waitress then asked if I was waiting for anyone. As a single dinner this repeated assumption that I must be with someone else made me feel quite saddened, especially as I had pre-booked for one. The wine was very good, and the starter came out in a flash. I had ordered whitebait but what I was presented with was surprising small considering it's £8 (roughly) price tag. The fish was good and the batter was done well. The accompanying sauce/dip and salad were both good as well. The main issue was portion size for me, especially as I see whitebait as a cheap option in normal restaurants. I had the rib-eye steak at £30 (roughly) and ordered it blue. Something that is always risky in my experience, but the chef did it to perfection. I think it is the best blue steak I have had in all of the Bournemouth area. The garlic butter was divine and the chips and onion rings were well prepared. The grilled tomatoes were very good, I must say. Over all, the food was absolutely exceptional and the service was absolutely on point! Except for the price and size of the whitebait and the service making me feel a tiny bit awkward for being alone, I would have given 5* across the board. The place is quite pricey, for me alone with just a starter, main and two drinks plus the tip came to £70. However, the steak was so good that I would still recommend it if you are able to afford it.
