"We were travelling through the Vendée region after purchasing seafood for the festivities. We then were looking for a decent restaurant to have lunch when we came across The Louis XIII in Shallans. Our first impression was an extremely warm welcoming as we were shown to our table. We all ordered the Earth and Sea salad , we were not disappointed and even pleasantly surprised. The salad was copious, delicious and even adventurous as a fig ice-cream was served with it which was the perfect compliment to the smoked fillet of beef, duck and king prawns butterflies. Around 12.50 for a main course. Very friendly, helpfull staff and owner making you feel instantly at home. We all loved it and will definitely return when we 're visiting the region for its seafood. Our first impression was an extremely warm welcome as we were shown our table. We all ordered the Salad Terre et Mer, we were not disappointed and even pleasantly surprised. The salad was copyy, delicious and even adventurous since it was accompanied by a fig-ice ice that perfectly accompanied the smoked beef net, duck and butterfly gambas. About 12.50 for a main dish. The staff and the owner are very friendly and helpful that make you feel immediately as if you were at home. We all loved and will certainly return to our visit to the region for its seafood. Term"

"We went there a noon a week and took the menu of the market. Prices are very reasonable and the kitchen is excellent, as much meat as fish. The dessert was exquisite as well. We went there with our two 3-week babies, we were afraid of a restaurant refusal, but no, babies and children were welcome. Servers are very pleasant and take the time to discuss. We even had an explanation of the restaurant's history! Otherwise the frame is modern and slightly rustic with walls and stone-like ceiling. I recommend the eyes closed!"

"We went there by chance needing a quick lunch and thought it was fabulous . They are highly efficient and welcomed us warmly. The restaurant is not huge and we were glad to have got there at about 12 noon. I had the dish of 5 different types of smoked fish on the 3 course menu served with an excellent sauce, a local delicacy and delicious, followed by a small steak served with small roast potatoes and a small salad. The meat was perfect, far better than is normal for a modest menu price and the dish as a whole was excellent. The dessert was apricot tart and very good. The overall price with 2 coffees was 33 euro for 2 peopleThe staff are very friendly , with amusing quotations in the toilet and elsewhere, and we felt very much at home. It is relaxed, packed with locals and no signs of tourists, rapid service of excellent food, and plenty of jokes with the staffFaultless. Can't wait to get back. A new discovery but amongst the best we have discovered."

"On our second visit to this lovely restaurant, we were impressed by the pleasant calm of the dining room, the impeccable service but most of all, the quality of the food. We shared one starter (cold crab and shrimp mousse with crispy vegetables), and then tried the salmon tartare and the Iberian pork fillet as entrees. The tartare was deliciously spiced and more than ample, as was the pork fillet (two hefty slices) served on a bed of sautéed celeriac and mushrooms. Desserts were a dream--a special pistachio financier with raspberries and strawberries surrounded by fine white chocolate mousse, and a sampler of five different tastes (blueberry creme brûlée, apple and apricot crumble, chocolate and caramel mousse, raspberry coulis with vanilla ice cream) proved too irresistible. Cafe came with small truffles--not what we needed but excellent all the same. A good variety of wines by the glass at various prices were available, and we tried a Spanish white unknown to us that was wonderful and fresh. L'Apart provided great meal at a reasonable price for these times. Yes, it is a bit outside of Challans, but directly on the route to st. Gilles, where we were headed--convenient for parking and access."
