"Our morning had taken us to a number of picturesque villages, but as lunch approached none could accommodate us--they were full. Arriving back in Montignac, we saw the Bistrot and decided to try it. We were welcomed without problem and quickly made our choices--I took the menu of feuillette de boudin noir, steak-frites and pineapple napoleon, while my husband had an omelette of crepes, knowing we would share. The boudin noir was excellent with apples and potato slices forming the layers, and a lovely salad. The steak-frites was just what one wanted--rare steak and crispy frites--and the omelette was heavenly. We shared all and agreed the dessert was one of the best of the trip."

"I had the opportunity to dine at the Auberge du Gros and I can only highly recommend it. Upon our arrival, a charming young man, elegantly dressed, greeted us with exceptional hospitality. Although the wait for our dishes was a little long, the quality of the presentation of the appetizer plates was simply superb, as evidenced by the photos I took (photo 1/photo 2). The salmon served was incomparably fresh, with the freshly prepared lemon sauce adding a touch of exceptional flavor. As for the main course, the generosity of the portions and the quality of the meat were particularly appreciated, not to mention the sauce, which was simply exquisite (photo 3/photo 4). Although we were tempted by an appetizing galette des rois, we opted for the semi-cooked one for dessert, and we were not disappointed. (Picture5) A little word for the waitress: She was able to create a family atmosphere by chatting with us about the food and sharing a few laughs, which really enriched our experience. It’s this kind of attention to detail and thoughtful service that makes all the difference. The chef not only prepares delicious dishes, but also shows genuine interest in his customers. It is obvious that he has extensive culinary knowledge and takes the time to interact with each of us. In summary, I highly recommend the Auberge du Gros.
