"We never ate here before as it is closed at night except for takeaway pizzas and only opens iin the evening on Fridays and Saturdays, but we met our relatives for lunch. It is located in a shopping centre basement due to the sloping lie of the land but the entrance is on the level as is the restaurant and they have some tables outside under cover between a frozen food outlet and a florist. You pass by it up a pedestrian ramp to the shops and then look down in to it.Inside it is very spartan modern and boxy. Nice lights and casual waiting staff. We were warmly greeted and sat at a corner table. The aperetifs were slow coming but we paid £2.80 each for them which I thought was reasonable. The Americano cocktail was £5.20. We hadn't finished them when the starters arrived which comprised of avocado and prawns, smoked salmon and 2 tomato and mozzarella buffalla carpaccios. A buffalla being a female buffalo, (I thought they had spelt it incorrectly!) which I chose. It was a tomato and herbs, pulverised and reshaped in to a rissole with a huge blob of mozzarella, very nice and light. Our mains were a steak, king prawns, calves liver and confit duck leg, (which I had,) the last two came with potatoes dauphinoise which were lovely and drizzled with cream. Our desserts were wafer thin slices of fresh pineapple, proper profiteroles (containing ice cream rather than cream and covered in hot chocolate sauce) a tulip of fresh fruits in a sweet spiced syrop including subtle cloves and aniseed with a sharp coulis and a creme brulée. We had 4 decent expressos and a bottle of good bordeaux cost £13. The only down point was a smell of burning and burnt plastic but our food wasn't burned. The toilet was spotless and spacious, not a disabled one but very accessible. We would like to try their pizzas which looked and smelled delicious."
