"We stayed overnight at this charming pub on our way to pick up our new puppy. The pub is very nice and cozy, with a great selection of beers, including a delicious Guinness. We enjoyed a tasty fish and chips dinner, with a lovely batter on the fish, although a bit too crispy for my liking. The staff were extremely polite and attentive, as well as very friendly. Our room, number 2, was comfortable but could use some updating, as the wallpaper was peeling in places and the bathroom needed some work. For the price, it wasn't bad at all. They also have some beautiful stable bedrooms that look lovely, albeit likely more expensive. Breakfast was very enjoyable. Overall, we wouldn't mind staying here again, perhaps opting for one of the stables next time. Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Quiet, Great value."

The rooms are separate from the pub, making it a great location. They offer a lovely full breakfast for an extra ten pounds. The only downside was the bed was too hard, making it very uncomfortable for me. I would rate the rooms a 3, the service a 5, and the location a 4.

we stopped here for dinner on a long journey through the a1 and it was perfect! the pub had a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the staff was fantastic and the food was the best we had in every pub for years! it made our long journey much more bearable. we will definitely be back.

I want to thank all the staff at The Nelson for the fantastic afternoon tea we had yesterday to celebrate John and Doreen. There were 35 of us who enjoyed the sandwiches, cakes, tea, and coffee. Everyone was impressed by the excellent service we received from start to finish. And to top it off, I was able to enjoy a pint afterwards.

After staying overnight on our way back from a holiday in France, we found this hotel very close to the A1 highway. The food was great, the bar area was nice, and our room, located in renovated stables, was also very nice. We would definitely stay here again without any hesitation. We rated the rooms, service, and location all a 4 out of 5. The highlights of the hotel were its quiet atmosphere and great value.

We stayed at the restaurant for two nights. The room and bathroom were pleasant. The 3 person beds were amazing and very comfortable. However, there was some maintenance required around the bath. While our stay was comfortable and quiet, I did notice that it could potentially be loud in the summer as our door opened directly to the outside. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, I was unable to have dinner due to personal illness.

This pub is quite deceptive! From the outside, it may appear small, but it certainly packs a punch inside! We stayed for a night in the stack room with our 2 dogs. The room was spacious and, most importantly, clean. The restaurant, Beergartenfab, offered a dinner menu with a variety of fish and chips that was quite generous. The room price also included breakfast, which exceeded our expectations once again. We would highly recommend this place and will definitely return. A big thank you to the staff, who were incredibly accommodating.

"It makes such a difference to a meal when the surroundings are nice and the staff are friendly and pleasant! This exactly what we found just a few nights ago when we went to the Lord Nelson at Winthorpe for the first time ever!Living in Newark for less than a year, we are still ticking off places that we have on our to visit list but eventually the opportunity to eat here came along so off we went along. Entering the lovely little pub/restaurant we approached the counter to be greeted by, as we found, a smiling Michelle. A friendly and warm greeting! We were so pleased. Then a nice young girl server, Rachel, led us to our table. Again, another friendly, pleasant face! An excellent start to a very good meal, as it turned out. Given the menu, we perused it to discover some interesting and enticing dishes but we eventually plumped on the lamb medallions/ and also a chicken dish. These came fairly quickly, accompanied by broccoli, new potatoes, baby carrots, parsnip purée, creamed spinach and what appeared to be shredded stir-fry cabbage. These choices proved to be good ones, not perfect but good enough to want them again. My lamb was excellent and the shredded cabbage it was sat on was really tasty. A generous portion but I had to pinch my wife 's gravy as it needed fluid to get the most out of the mouth-watering flavour of the lamb! Her chicken was a bit dry but still nice and appetising. No sticky toffee pudding and the other desserts did not entice us that night so maybe next time for afters. We were very pleased by our first ever meals there and they seemed to tick all the boxes at the Lord Nelson, good menu, lovely staff, fair sized portions of tasty food and pleasant surroundings. Be most assured that we will be back and walking there on a sunny evening! A recommended place to eat for you all!"

"The pub looks great (although in fairness it looked ok before! and the ‘dining room’ is now more of a cosy comfortable room with a piano, armchairs and a settee but sadly this cuts down on the dining tables and the few that are left are mostly wedged in so that once you’re in, you won’t be moving. Except you have to struggle back up again because the table service has gone and you now have to order and pay for your food at the bar. I really hate paying for my food before I’ve even tasted it and when there’s a group of you out for a meal it’s much easier to have a tab and settle up at the end of the meal Instead of having to squeeze in and out from the table to get another drink. We went with vegan friends who were keen to try the menu however they were distinctly underwhelmed by the vegan sausage and mash (dry sausage and vegan burger (also dry and they felt the vegan offerings were uninspiring, merely copying the meat versions. It’s a small menu and quite odd, with a ‘sharing plate’ that consists of a sausage roll and a piece of cheese with chutney.. a vegan club sandwich and a fish goujon sandwich. Great for a lunchtime menu but not the sort of ‘meal’ I want on a ‘night out’! And the pub isn’t open at lunchtimes so the menu was confusing. My husband had the pie with chips. The pie looked delicious and tasted good but the chips looked as if they’d been soaked in engine oil for days they were so dark they were virtually black. IMO chips should be golden, and having seen them on other peoples plates this put me off completely. The menu would have to improve dramatically before I’m tempted back, it’s almost as if they don’t really want to be serving food which is possibly why the dining tables have been taken out. It is supposed to be village community pub but it just felt like it was trying too hard to be a trendy town centre bar."
