Had a really great engagement meal here. Food was fabulous and the portion sizes were huge! Price was very reasonable too. Will definitely be back.

The restaurant greeted us warmly, served delicious food, and had a very attentive staff. I would recommend this place to anyone and we will definitely be returning!

Fantastic service, food and environment. Lovely atmosphere and the waitresses were so attentive. A busy Friday night but we weren't left too long at any point perfect timing throughout. First time in Retford and we stayed for 5 nights. I was very impressed with the reviews No 5 had received and booked us in for two dinners. We were extremely impressed with the whole experience- the ambience, reception, general service, quality of ingredients and the cooking. We're back in Retford again next September and will definitely be paying another visit (or two) . Thank you to Ian and his team.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff for an amazing dinner last night. We apologize for arriving early but you handled our large party of 12 for my dad's 90th birthday with grace and skill. The food was exceptional, the service top-notch, and the atmosphere was perfect. I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience and highly recommend this restaurant. I came in this evening with my partner to celebrate our anniversary, and from the moment we entered, we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff who offered to take our coats and eagerly seated us. Went here for my wife’s birthday in July, lovely atmosphere inside the restaurant, nice decor and great lighting. Food was beautiful, scallop and black pudding starter was beautiful! Steak cooked to perfection for the main and chips being served separately was a win for me as it didn’t overwhelm the plate. Didn’t have pudding as we went home for cake but when we mentioned that to the owner she insisted we stay as she gave my wife a birthday cocktail on the house and it was one of the best pornstar martinis she has had! We visited for a family meal and opted for the three course special menu. The chicken liver pate was nice enough, if not a little bland. It would have benefited from more seasoning but the fig chutney accompaniment was tasty. The crab fish cakes were very tasty. Unfortunately the main course was a bit of a let down. The chunk of belly pork is far too large and the veg offering was incredibly disappointing. A little side plate with a few slices of carrot, a couple of pieces of mange tout and baby corn came as quite a shock given that on the website there is talk of emphasis on regional and seasonal ingredients. No.5 appears to be in a state of transition of owners and it shows. We have never had a disappointing meal here until this last one. I have always had a little whinge that the menu hardly ever changes so despite previously loving the food when you have been a few times it becomes a bit samey . Recently went to the under new management White Houses and they have a fixed menu but lots of specials to add variety. Definitely top notch competition locally to No. 5 Service was initially very attentive but ended up as none existent.
