"I don't know what on earth happened last night when we had dinner here, the reviews looked good, and we're struggling to understand how. We're very easily pleased and takes a lot to prompt a complaint, but we had an absolutely awful experience. My partner ordered the belly pork off the specials board, and it turned up on a side plate, a very few overcooked bits of diced pork thrown in with a few veg. I had the cauliflower with braised lentils, this turned out to be a few mainly burnt cauliflower florets thrown into a plate of sludgy lentils. The chunky chips we ordered came out as skinny fries, not a big deal but just added to the general lack of care. We were both mortified, to the point of embarrassment. We ate it as we were hungry and there was nowhere else to go as we were staying at a local campsite. One of the team took the plates away, and another brought the bill. Neither of them asked us how the meal was, else we'd have said how disappointed we were. So we just left, just as the table next to ours was commenting on the small portion sizes of their food. We should have complained but we were hungry, disappointed, tired and just wanted to leave and simply couldn't face the confrontation in the busy setting. No excuses but that's how it was. We are very relaxed easy going people but this was a truly disappointing meal and experience and we felt robbed of £45 instead of enjoying what we'd hoped would be a lovely Saturday night out and special occasion."

"My wife and I were welcomed into the sun and ushered to a table by lovely waitress. We had a hook ale from the brewery down the road- very nice! I enjoyed an excellent sunday pork roast (me) with all trimmings. Particularly the best carrot and parsnips. Really nice gravy. The most splendid yorkshire. Potatoes were so crisp- the chef really does the veges so so well. My wife had fish and chips. The fish had the best batter and the chips very good. Homemade tartare I think- very nice. Normally she does not like the tartare but this seemed fresh and worked well with grilled lemon. We left big tip and will come back again next month when on holiday- forget Chipping Norton, they all overcharge and the customers and hosts out here in the country are quieter and more friendly"

"We have just come back from a wonderful night's stay, we had 3 rooms and all of our party were impressed with the standard of the rooms and the breakfast which had everything from fresh fruit, granola and a choice of cooked breakfasts.The location couldn't be better, we were right in the centre of Winchester In the stunning area by the cathedral. Had the best night's stay. Food: 5"

"My fiance and I passed this place on the way to evesham and decided to stop for lunch when we passed it again on the way back. The pub itself is a beautiful building and the inside gives off a very warm, welcoming atmosphere. They...had a large party due in but were kind enough to seat us, they just asked that we order sooner rather than later to avoid being stuck behind the large party. I appreciated the heads up since not all places bother to make you aware. The staff were friendly and very polite, the food was amazing and the wine was fresh and cooled to perfection. I don't tend to see mussels served well in England but I think this may have been the best dish i'v had as a pub lunch in this country. The chips served were perfectly seasoned and crunchy, the chorizo and white wine mussels were delicious and piled so high I could barely finish them. My fiance's lamb was so perfectly cooked you could have eaten it with a spoon, it really just came apart. Beautiful pub in a beautiful location and perfect for a quick stop on a long journey. 10/10"

"We stopped at this restaurant for lunch during a 30 mile bike ride. The menu was very creative and imaginative, with fresh ingredients. We both had chorizo and feta on sourdough with a delicious salad. The small cans of drinks were all priced at £2.50. The service was very friendly. It was a hot day, but unfortunately there wasn't enough shade over the outside seating to be able to sit in the garden area. The big sun canopies were a nice idea, but they only accommodated one table. I guess it hasn't been needed much this summer until now. We would definitely return."
