"the plough inn was always one of our favorite pubs, not least because of its atmosphere, and this visit was not a take. the employees who looked around us were not familiar with this opportunity, but as friendly and helpful as always... come to the cook to welcome us and explain some of the more unusual items on the menu, there are a few. among them was brittle, a fish rarely met in a pub. two of our three parties had agreed that it was perfectly cooked and presented in a saffron-velouté for which it should die. we ordered kartoffels and broccoli spears on the side, but really were not necessary. the court alone was more than sufficient. the third in our party had the broken swells. the fish looked enormous, but was confirmed that slightly fluffy and again, boiled to perfection. my brother, I could testify that the chips were perfect, crispy outside, lightly fluffy inside, as chips should be. for dessert we all chose the vanilla cheese cake with rhabarb, which was worthy of the great british menu. my photo really doesn't make it fair. only a negatiw, the day turned out to be colder than expected, so the usual log fire would have been welcome. a word to the wise: eating is all cooked to order, so have a little geduld. you will be well rewarded."

I visited The Plough recently and found it a very enjoyable experienceFirstly the choice of drinks was very local, even the wine, which is great.

That's delicious. the Roast beef was cooked to perfection, plentiful vegetables to accompany it. my man had the plaice and he thought it was amazing. the deserts were for sticky toffe pudding with stiel ingwer eis to die, and chocolate brownie with passion. fruit sorbet. that was our first visit and we were taken back how polite the staff was. a pretty pub. a hidden gem! we can't wait to return. Thank you. Speisekarte ansehen

I have mixed feelings about this place. Great location, obviously, but several of our party were severely disappointed by their meal. They ordered the matured pork loin. It arrived, about sufficient meat to fill a small finger roll,, with a very small amount of...veg and potato. Several of our party thought they had been served a starter in error. It was tasty but at this was a rip -off. It took about six or seven mouthfuls to eat. We won't be going back.

My partner and I stayed and ate at The Plough on Valentine’s Day and we couldn’t have had a better time! The room was fresh, bright and charming with everything we could have needed. The food was absolutely delicious, with my partner saying the brill...was the best fish he’d ever had. The surrounding area is beautiful with plenty of walking routes and to top it all off our host was so lovely and couldn’t have been more accommodating. Thank you again for a wonderful stay.

Had a fantastic Sunday roast at The Plough. The lovely Sharon and team kept the kitchen open for us as we'd been delayed on our journey (and kindly didn't rush us in any way) and it was well worth it. A superb menu of roast...meats, but also plenty for the veggies and kids. My wife and I had roast beef and lamb respectively both were cooked to perfection, with fresh crispy roasties, al dente veg and a pickled red cabbage (which I personally love with a red meat roast). The lamb sweetbreads and baked camembert starters were delish, as was the (clearly chef made) burger for my daughter. A great roast is something that, sadly, not every establishment gets right but I can hand on heart say The P... Speisekarte ansehen

we visited the plough during the Easter holidays to lunch on a Saturday we had not planned where we had to go and booked last minute, so did not know what to expect. the first impressions from outside were good the building is beautiful and the. atmosphere inside is cozy and traditional we sat in the old Inglnook fireplace we loved! eating was excellent, the special menu is diverse and there were several possibilities that we could have gone. especially good were the beet root and apple pancakes on the starters and the rhabarb frangipane dessert. service was fantastic, the owner took the time to come and check on us several times and talk, the chef bought us the food and personally explained...

My wife and I had not visited the Plough for a number of years but, after reading the rave reviews and living relatively locally, we thought we should rekindle old memories and visit for Sunday lunch. The pub still looks fantastic and the peaceful and...tranquil setting on a beautiful Spring day certainly made us pleased we had chosen to book. However, and with regret, the quality of my wife’s pork and the served temperature of the food proved extremely disappointing. Unlike myself, my wife is not normally fussy with meats and does not normally complain, but her pork proved so fatty and tough that only half of the serving was edible. The vegetables, although plentiful, were barely warm when...

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
