Surprisingly nice pub not too far from a couple of tube lines. Nice looking food, great selection of drinks and plenty of seating available. Interesting mix of punters and overall quite pleasant

Pub atmosphere is quite warm and the staff is nice however the food was such a let down : no taste (no seasoning), cheap ingredients and some of them past due. Even though the place is nice, will not come back again

Low selection of beers available, staff is friendly but unfortunately food is terrible. We have ordered some chips (they were old, badly warmed up and greasy) and Baked Camembert Bread Bowl with Rosemary and Honey. It was mostly raw and disgusting to eat. A total waste of money. Won’t definitely go back.

Positives: Great staff. Very friendly. Nice seating outback. Negatives: Food simply was not good. We ordered three dishes to share and it simply was poor. The fish in the fish and chips was so watery. The calamari was tough. The peas were from a can. For what it cost us I would much rather go to the angle sea arms.

Used to be so good and if the owners don’t pull their fingers out it’s going downhill fast. Incredibly disinterested bar staff who just hang out in a group as if it’s their own little club, showing total contempt that someone might want to be served. Food below average. Prices above average. A real shame such a wonderful pub is under such useless, uncaring stewardship.

First visit and the last unfortunately. Pub looked clean and staff were friendly upon arrival. Our two beers were good, although Neck Oil was unavailable which wasn’t great for a Saturday afternoon. Our Camembert bread bowl and side of chips was an inedible disaster. The Camembert bread bowl looked baked from the outside, but below the surface was uncooked bread dough mixing with the cheese. The chips were so old, that they could have been carbon dated and were dry and crunchy. They had definitely been sitting under a hot lamp for way too long before serving. For £4 for the chips and £12.50 for the Camembert, both of which were left barely touched, the beer doesn’t save this pub. If food is...

I go to a place at least twice to be fair. Twice was two too many times here. The service is so bad I had to go and find a server. I was LITERALLY the only diner in an EMPTY dining room and yet the server spent all her time at the bar chatting with the bartender in the other room. I had to first get the attention of ANOTHER server who sat 3 tables away folding napkins while I was STILL the only diner in an otherwise EMPTY dining room. I had to actually wave at her while she got up and walked around, chatted with others, walked in and out of the dining room, played on her phone, EVERYTHING BUT actually DOING HER JOB. It baffles me how this once excellent gastropub still garners 5 star reviews. I'm perfectly happy to continue referring to this beautifully designed former gin palace as a pub but the gastro bit has well and truly left town. It's had an amusing and rather chequered history (see Wikipedia) but the current owners have really made an effort to suck out any enjoyment that used to be had in this place. Gone is the former high standard of food, to be replaced with overpriced run-of-the-mill stuff that really isn't worth having, unless you've not been fed for a week. We visited the Princess Victoria today for the first time as recommended by friends. We live locally but had never been. When we walked in we thought it seemed lovely and not as ‘old man pubby’ as we had thought from the outside. We sat down and it took about half an hour before anybody came to us and we needed to ask them to take our order. We ordered 2 beef and 2 pork roasts and some meals for the kids. The kids meal said it was £5 on the menu we were given but on the bill it was £8. We then questioned it and they brought another menu with the £8 amount written on it.
