"Popped in with family whilst on hols in Banchory as recommended. Service was excellent . Hubby and I had the over 60s special which was Haddock, chips , choice of peas , pot of tea and bread and butter . We opted for mushy peas . There was a choice of cod if preferred. Daughter had haddock too which could have been upped to large if required but portions were generous so not required . We also had a portion of onion rings which were plentiful and by far the best we had ever tasted . All food was cooked and crisped to perfection . We were also offered a pot of home made tartare sauce which I had and very tasty . Large pot of good strong tea washed all of this down . We sat in but there was takeaway option was available too . All in all I can heartily recommend this eatery for food, service and price"

Bought a freshly prepared haddock supper. I’ve never tasted better. The batter on the fish melted in your mouth. The staff were very friendly.

I highly recommend this restaurant for their excellent food and service. The staff is very friendly, kind, and helpful. This place is a must-try for their delicious fish and chips, with the crispiest batter made to order.

Very good fish chips. Used to frequent another chip shop in the area. However, it has been less impressive of late with quite tasteless chips. The chips at Rock salt sole were really tasty, as was the fish. We'll definitely be using this chippy again.

I was extremely impressed with the friendly and helpful Paul, who manages the restaurant/takeaway. He makes the most delicious fish and chips I have ever tasted. I had a light supper, which was the perfect portion for me as a pensioner. I enjoyed every last bite and would give Paul a 10 out of 10 rating. Speisekarte ansehen

First class service. This was our second visit while visiting the area and on both occasions we have no complaint and plenty of praise. We chose to sit in rather than take out and the haddock and Scampi was first class. The batter on the haddock was light and ‘dry’. Would recommend to anyone visiting Banchory and like s ‘fish supper’

Stopped off here for fish suppers with family and friends. Ordered six suppers in advance and they were freshly cooked when we arrived to collect. Lovely chat with the owner. Very attentive to our gluten free requirements, even down to the vinegar! All the food was extremely tasty. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again if in this area in future.

Complete con artists. Got £4 worth of ice creams for the kids, said I’d pop to the cash point as I didn’t have change £10 minimum spend for cards). Very nice older chap Or so i thought) said not to worry he’d put it through anyway. Wasn’t until my bank statement came through I realised he’d over charged me by £36!!! Over charging may help balance the books but trust me we locals you are doing it too will never offer you repeat custom and neither will our familys. STOP deliberately over charging. I recently had the best fish and chips of my life at this restaurant. The fish was fresh and delicious, and the batter was incredibly light and crispy. The chips were also very good. While eating in the restaurant is a bit more expensive than getting take-out, it is well worth it. The homemade tartare sauce was excellent, the mushy peas were perfectly textured and not overly vinegary, and the individual glass jars of ketchup were a nice touch. The staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place.

We went to Rock Salt and Sole on Sunday 11th Oct for our supper. What a brilliant service and food. Their covid procedures worked well (we pre-booked and collected), and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The best bit was when we got to the top of Cairn O' Mount to eat them and watch the fading sun over Grampian because the fish and chips were delicious; chips and batter weren't greasy, batter was crisp and golden, fish was fresh. I usually have sauce on mine but for the first time none was required. I come from a family of fish and chip owners so like to do the taste test and be be honest I've not tasted better in Grampian. It really was a super supper, thoroughly recommended.

"Sunday, 3rd September 2023 – 19:00 Meal: Wine Starters – Main – Coffee My friend and I arrived at 19:00 to a busy but not overfull restaurant without a reservation and they accommodated us upstairs. Menus were produced and we ordered a bottle of white wine and a jug of water. 0rders placed for starters and 2 servings of the Italian style fish stew on the ‘Specials Board’ at 26.99 each. Tomato and chilli with promises of loads of different fish. The toss up was between a steak or the stew (which neither of us would cook at home). The table was dirty and needed wiping – this request was placed 3x on the young waitron who eventually produced a cloth slopping water from a bucket in the corner cupped in her hands where she half heartedly wiped the table with water dripping onto my friend’s lap. Hurried mop up with tissues out of my bag. The white wine was plonked on the table – next to the cooler – unopened and no glasses. Several attempts were made to attract the waitron’s attention. Eventually another bottle was produced opened and we were advised the waitron was under age and not allowed to pour wine. Perfectly acceptable had she produced an opener and the glasses with an explanation I would have been happy to help myself – we understand and appreciate these things. The starters arrived and were delicious! The chef then came out to see us and explained that there was no lobster for the stew – we asked for extra monkfish, he then said there was no monkfish left – but could help us with other white fish and crab claws. He said he was down to the last 2 portions, and he would ensure they were hearty. We were a bit concerned and suggested perhaps we settle for the steak which is always delicious. He assured us we had made the right choice and would enjoy the stew. The stews arrived and were ‘hearty’ if being crammed with the contents of a tin of crab claws is your definition of hearty. The promised ‘rich tomato broth with chilli and garlic’ was a watered down version of what was clearly less than a cup of the original broth left at the bottom of the pot topped with water. It was tasteless – lacking in hint of either chilli, wine, garlic or herbs – having lived in Malta I can assure you I have a deep understanding of Med cooking. I guess we were lucky we didn’t have the salty brine of the crab claws as the broth. It was inedible and we were starving so we kept adding salt and pepper – we were beyond the point of returning the food which was a mistake in hindsight. We skipped dessert – had coffees and left. The meal came to nearly £100.00. This was an expensive lousy experience. We paid a generous tip – because they accommodated us without a reservation. Take aways from the experience: • The restaurant service on a Sunday evening at 19:00 should be as good as it is on a Friday at 19:00 • Being a local and having eaten there several times – it is my first choice for a ‘good’ meal – don’t abuse the luxury of local support. • Train your waitrons to clean tables, by wringing out the cloth and not dripping water on your patrons. • Waitrons (even under aged ones) should at least carry a wine opener, and understand that wine glasses should be produced when delivering wine. • Your chef should know better and never, ever assume he can cut costs by selling the dregs from his kitchen. • A poor dining experience costs you more than you think. We would have ordered dessert, and more importantly returned for a second meal in the next week – WE DIDN’T! I have a friend coming from Ireland in November – do I risk taking her to the Anchor?"
