"So I have been trying not to write a review due to my somewhat bias opinion of this establishment. However what I have learnt in my last two trips is,PRAWNS massive, huge, humongous, prawns almost bigger than the restaurant it’s self. These giants of the sea are almost a meal in themselves you have to try these for yourself.Give me a B Give me a UGive me a NGive me a SWhat have you got BUNS The best BUNS you have ever tasted ever in the world.I’m pretty sure the dynamic husband wife combo have an underground kitchen one filled with umpa lumpas , house elves , mystical cooking unicorns or some type of supernatural beings. As from there modest kitchen they can cook any type of food from anywhere in the world with so much passion, style, flavour whilst making it look like a supermodel has fallen onto your plate and your permitted to eat said supermodel. I say this as surly some English lady and German man can’t manage to cook cuisine from all over the globe with such confidence and complete the dishes in my opinion better than the country of origin.I say they must have help because there is only three of them Jan, Stacey and Gigi This trio constantly glide the food and drink to your table with elegance and ease nothing is forgotten nothing is mistaken and as for Gigi he has this ingrown crystal ball that means he knows your drink, how you drink it and when you want it. Quite often he will try move you from your comfort zone and pair one of theses culinary master pieces with a drink from far and wide. This ladies and gents is the reason I don’t write reviews for roots anymore as it looks like I have been paid off. I can assure you I haven’t and all that happens is I enjoy every visit I make. Do not hesitate find out for yourself."

You would not expect this from an ordinary parade of shops. This is one of the best meals we have had in the UK. The fact that it was vegatarian made it even better.

Best food we have had for a long time. Lunchtime discovery tasting menu was a real treat. Every course was superb. Staff and chef were very passionate about both the service and the food. If you want a sea view, have a walk along coast beforehand as once inside you are only really interested in the amazing food.

We are a group of 8 friends, and tonight we enjoyed a superb meal in the Roots Private dining room. Every course was delicious, and beautifully presented. The beef Wellington, and the Salmon terrine were delicious, the special cheeseboard was incredible, and we greatly appreciated the Prosecco! And all the other courses were super too! We would like to Thank Jan, Stacey and the Roots team for a truly excellent dinner, and a lovely evening. Happy Christmas to you all. Speisekarte ansehen

Great to visit this little gem tucked away in Southbourne Dorset ! The food is both innovative and flavourful often showcasing fresh local produce to its best effect. The turbot last night was a delight as was the venison, in fact every course of the tasting menu was beautifully prepared and presented. Do not be put off by the slightly spartan interior or the unprepossessing exterior. The chef and his wife will soon beguile you with their marvellous food. Booking essential !! A truly wonderful dining experience.

We celebrated a birthday at Roots on 13th of September and had such a delicious experience yet again! The food is exquisite and always beautifully prepared and presented. We went for the Taster menu with wine, and each wine is perfectly paired with the course, chosen for its flavour to accentuate the marvellous dishes prepared by Jan.The dishes themselves are creative, and sometimes surprisingly adventurous, putting contrasting yet complimentary flavours together that really sing on the palette.Nothing is out of place with flavours and we left feeling satisfied and spoilt by both the service and the cuisine!Thank you team Roots for another unforgettable experience!

Truly sublime food and restaurant experience this evening at Restaurant Roots. Jan, his wife Stacey, and Geza, were incredibly welcoming, bringing the food, wine, and our whole evening 's journey through the tasting menu to life. All in a setting quite intimate, warm, and comfortable. As for the food... this was simply another level. Amazingly delicate, yet bold, flavoursome, and intriguing all inviting the senses to pay good attention as we journeyed through the 10 courses, each leading sensually to the next... A personal favourite course was 'Supper ' Jan sharing his 'roots ' and family story, which connected with us delicate and delicious, a course we didn 't want to end. I revisited this place over a month ago and thought I would wait to calm down a bit as I didn't want to gush too much. I'm afraid time hasn't helped, prepare for some gushing. I was so excited to go back after the awful past few months of lock down and not being able to eat out. It was truly lovely going to Roots where we felt extremely safe, every precaution had been adhered to, there was simply no other precaution they could take, and it made for a worryless and carefree dining experience. The place has also had a bit of a refurbishment and looks super, modern but still cosy.We enjoyed some cocktails and then the food arrived, and oh-my-gosh, it was phenomenal. Every bite of every course t...

Is this Bournemouth's best restaurant for lunch? Despite several unsuccessful attempts to secure a reservation at this intimate 16-seat establishment during previous visits to the area, we were finally able to snag a spot for Saturday lunch. Owned and operated by Jan and Stacey Bretschneider, the family-run restaurant boasts a bright, clean, and stylish dining room. Guests can choose between two tasting menus: the Seasonal menu priced at £49 with optional extras, or the full Classic menu at £79. After being warmly greeted by the charismatic maître d', we were treated to a selection of delicious snacks before indulging in the 'Dad's countryside supper', which included a malty loaf of warm rye...

"We had called-here for drinks during a previous visit to Bournemouth. We were impressed with the wine we drank, and the food that we saw served to other customers. So, today was the realisation of a promise that we made-to-ourselves to revisit and, this time, dine! We were a few-minutes early for our 19:30 reservation having allowed too-much time for our half-a-mile walk from our hotel. The restaurant was not busy, and there were scant customers during our 2½ hour stay. There was only one, very pleasant, member of staff in the bar/dining area. We had assumed he was the Manager, and he did everything: menus, drinks, food orders, food service, and payment. He did this pleasantly with good humour, plus impressive efficiency and knowledge. The food here is principally ‘Sharing Boards’ but also available were smaller (snack) servings of Artisan Cheese and Charcuterie and other “Nibbles”. We chose an ‘Ultimate Board’ (intended for two people sharing and costing £36.95 in total). Within this price you select four types of charcuterie plus four types of cheese to complete the board. Drinks: we started with a 175ml glass of “Martin Codax Albariño” for each of us. The extensive and impressive wine list offers a good selection available by the 175 or 250ml glass: 6 white wines, 3 rosé wines, 9 red wines, 3 sparkling wines and 9 aperitif/digestif wines. The Albariño was very much enjoyed, whist we decided which bottle of wine we would have with our meal. After much thought we chose a bottle of Bin 31 ‘Laibach (Sur Lie) Stellenbosch’; a white wine from what is a great wine-producing region in South Africa. This was superbly delicate and gently flavoured; with the very slight effervescence from the ‘Sur Lie’ fermentation method (fermentation on the lees). We know this method well from Sur Lie Muscadet wines, from the Sèvre-et-Maine region in France. With our wine chosen, we concentrated on the charcuterie and fromage that we would like with our ‘Ultimate Board’. There was much debate between us, but eventually: Our choices of charcuterie were: Salami Milano: with a perfumed scent that was such a delight. Pâté: quite fine but rich and flavoursome. Venison Salami: surprising and just superb. Smoked Pancetta: we loved this delicately smoked pork belly which was served in the thinnest slices imaginable. The cheese was far more difficult to choose: A Cheddar was a no-brainer and it was good; however we have ‘Vintage’ Cheddar at home (aged for 36-60 months); so the Cheddar here was a bit tame for our tastes. Oak Smoked Lincolnshire Poacher: this was very disappointing as half of the piece was totally inedible rind, and the rest was almost impossible to cut with the cheese-knife provided. I brought this to the attention of the Manager this was exchanged with more of the Cheddar. Northern Blue: good and creamy and appreciably tangy. We had another cheese which was firm and good eating, but we cannot recall it’s name (that’s our fail then). To be honest, and sadly, we found the cheese to be not anywhere as good as the charcuterie, we like mostly hard, or at least firm cheese, with strong flavours. Brie, Camembert and other soft cheeses rarely feature at our home (the somewhat explains our choices). The board was loaded with extra ingredients: a good selection of salad and fruit: cream cheese stuffed cherry tomatoes, lovely crunchy astringent cornichon, fresh grapes and pitted olives. There was also a pot of hummus, onion relish, cheese crackers, and a basket of bread (the latter of which we ordered a second). The meal was still a very favourable experience; made better by the extra cornichon provided. Just because I said how much I loved the texture and flavour of these wonderful ‘little gherkins’. After our board we were quite replete and there was no-way we could have managed a dessert, but an extra glass of Viognier for my Partner, and a wonderful 10-year-old Tawny Port for myself, finished-off the meal splendidly."

"WOW! What can we say!? Chris Katie catered lunch at our beautiful outdoor wedding at Moonacre, Sturminster Marshall. They had a fantastic layout and lots of menu options available several different burgers, wieners fries! They absolutely smashed the service and excelled at feeding a few more than expected too! They made us a gorgeous little personalised menu also which we thought was such a nice touch! Everyone couldn’t stop talking about how amazing their food was even those who would never normally consider vegan options were blown away at how great everything tasted! They managed to positively influence even the most stubborn meat eaters of our guests to realise that they don’t need to miss out on flavour when choosing vegan options! That’s a huge win in our eyes! A couple of people even said it was the first ever vegan food they’d tried and they couldn’t get over how amazing it was! We told our guests about the Mighty Wieners restaurant in Bournemouth and will be bringing people back for more as they couldn’t wait to try more options! The day was such a huge success and Chris Katie did such an incredible job! We can’t recommend them enough, for food at their restaurant and wedding events catering! Vegetarian options: Excellent vegetarian and vegan options! Dietary restrictions: Served gluten free options! Kid friendliness: Excellent service friendly, warm and when above and beyond! Wheelchair accessibility: Perfect for full accessibility!"
