"Good evening, I hope all is well, we have just got home from staying over night in the Huntsman. I just want to start off by saying, the hotel room was lovely and very clean and cosy, however, we dined in the restaurant last night...at 7pm, there was only one another couple in there with us so no excuse for bad service. However, as soon as we walked in, I really felt as if we weren’t welcomed, and rushed as if the waiters just didn’t want us to be there, we ordered starters and mains and then the waiter just walked off before I could even ask anything or finish ordering. We waited a while and we were brought over our mains… no starters, like we ordered, which is unheard of seeing as there was only 1 other couple in there, there isn’t really an excuse to forget. A lovely gentleman did come over and apologise on behalf of the waiter, to which the waiter then came over and half heartily apologised, fine. We were too hungry and tired to really say much as we had traveled a long way. I must say I was really disappointed with this as I was so looking forward to our meal. The food was delicious, I couldn’t fault it, but the whole atmosphere around us and the starters being forgotten just ruined it all, which is such a shame as we were there for my partners birthday. To be honest, I would have thought the waiter would have offered something other than a “sorry” which it didn’t really feel like he was. We got over this and left it as ‘these things happen‘ but I still went to bed a little frustrated. Fast forward to the morning, we had breakfast, food was lovely, however I asked the lady if I could have a cappuccino, which I think, is a very normal request and I don’t think I’ve ever been told I can’t have one in a hotel/restaurant. To which the lady responded, “no sorry, we only do this for paying customers after 11am” well I was a paying customer and was totally willing to pay £3 extra for a cappuccino, I think that’s pretty poor and a bit strange for such a simple and easy request. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately I felt let down by our service in the restaurant and I am quite shocked as I wouldn’t have expected this from somewhere like this. These things may sound small and minor, but it did have an effect and didn’t make the experience what we wanted and hoped for. I did want to speak to someone this morning regarding this, but there was not anyone around for check out and we needed to head back, hence my email. I really don’t like to complain, but when paying money, I expect what I pay for."

Fabulous roast beef and Pork belly. Huge Yorkshire pudding and great service by Pedro. Will certainly come again. Extra gravy!

Disappointing Sunday lunch with the family. Lacks atmosphere, drinks order not right, mains rather underwhelming, and for £16 for a roast I expect my plate to be hot.

Really lovely lunch today. Plenty of choice whether you want a small or big meal, and a great wine list. Service was just the right balance of professional v friendly.

Pedro served us, he is a very good waiter, he really made time to chat with us and made us laugh! Food was great, some in our group of 11 were expecting pizza, it’s on the online menu. A good place we would recommend

There was an issue on our booking but this was sorted out with a major extra cost, Because we had to use the bed settee, they brought us extra bedding, this was thrown on the bed to do it ourself. The room was ok and...evening meal looked ok The breakfast was disappointing, cold and the server an Irish lady i believe , done the place no justice, never have we been spoken to so rudely anywhere, it was appalling, we heard her speak to other tables in the same manner. To be honest I would go somewhere else

nine of us sang here on Wednesday night. we had a long table and the atmosphere was beautiful. I chose asparagus to begin with poached egg, which was delicious, followed by mushroom and truffle pappardelle, which was beautiful, although a little oily. my partner... ham hock terrine then duo von duck. despite the preorder they forget the main course of the organizer of pappardelle. they apologised and said it would cook for another 15 minutes so that they didn't bother and simply had garlic broth. a person enjoyed a dessert of sticky toffee pudding. service was friendly and efficient. we will return happy.

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
