"The atmosphere inside was nice and quiet. Nobody was shouting. The bar staff could have been a bit quicker to serve. The menu was varied and sectioned off making it easier to find what you wanted. Payment is taken when you ordered. The food arrived quickly and was hot. There was condiments on a table close by so the table wasn't cluttered. The batter on the fish was very good on both occasions we ate there. Both times we ordered off the smaller plate option but the difference between the fish on the two days was not the same. The new cocktail with R Whites raspberry lemonade was delicious. The only problem I wanted the drink making upto a pint. The member of staff didn't know what to do, so made me two normal sized drinks. If we are ever in Ruthin again we will definitely revisit The Castle Hotel. My only complaint is that the bath could do with a grab rain by the side of it to help get into the bath to use the shower. Otherwise everything was good.lovely big bed and very clean Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Great value

1. Food is great for the price. 2. Service is not so great and staff, especially the dyed blonde hair older lady who just can't smile and obviously dislikes her job. Rude and unhelpful. 3. Haven't stayed yet but the price for rooms and central location is a bargain. The beer garden is fabulous. Need to be more dog friendly as tourist attraction but I'm guessing this is a boring management decision which shows in staff attitude Nearby activities: Ruthin castle and Welsh countryside Activities Food drinks: Cheap nice food with great views Rooms: 3 Service: 1 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Great view, Great value

"I've heard rave reviews from family and friend's about the Sugar Plum for quite some time and I'm surprised I've not visited before now. We booked both afternoon tea and the normal menu for a Saturday mother's day treat for my mum, ex wife (I know! and our youngest to avoid the madding Sunday crowd. The experience was excellent from start to end. We arrived a little early because of light traffic so had a browse around and I noticed a lot of happy diners and little white boxes leaving. We were to find out why later. The food was excellent and plenty of it. The afternoon tea for £20 I can say without doubt is excellent value. One of the best I've experienced and the best value I've had. But the star of the afternoon was our waitress (sorry I've forgotten your name . She was superb. Her interaction with Alexander and Agnes was brilliant as were also the other staff. It was an absolute joy and so lovely to experience. Nothing was any trouble. 5 stars plus plus. As for the little white boxes. There is so much choice you can't eat it all but you can take it home to share. We had a wonderful unhurried afternoon with excellent food and excellent service. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. You are now on the list. We'll be back."

"this is a quirky old building with friendly helpful staff from the arrival to the departure with the usual 'spoons menu and great prices in between. our room was spacious, the bed was solid, but comfortable and very large. all linen were immaculate white. we were two floors up and no noise from down or other guests. the room looked a little tired and needed a touch-up, (note to pure look behind the bathroom door. but at the price was still excellent. pay attention to the parking space on the back of the building, there are now only two disabled rooms and that 's it, the other rooms are a little further on being the property of an adjacent business, so for all other parkings its just a little further down the road either on the short or long stay 'pay and display', both favorable. the location could not be more central and convenient in this historic and interesting Welsh city."

"since they were obviously very short employees, the working people have made a great task to please everyone, from the reception to the dining room staff. we have booked with groupon. £135 for a standard room, 2 meals with a bottle of wine plus breakfast. the room was great with an amazing comfortable bed, tea and coffee as well as old fashion bathroom. dinner had a big choice, breakfast as much as they wanted. for this price, you really couldn't owe it. the inner of the castle is amazing and chew around the ground. After dinner we really recovered with a drink around the open fire where we met another local couple that was really friendly. the castle is located in a very picturesque old town that is worth a walk. we will definitely go back and enjoy dressing up and lord and dame of the home for an evening. heartily recommend a visit!"

"Loved our visit here last night. Not just the food, but the experience as a whole. A warm welcome with fun banter and chat throughout the night. Great selection of drinks including of course some German beers on tap. Sat right next to the cost fire. HUGE food portions, but so damn tasty and fresh, absolutely first class. So nice to be able to go out and eat something different. I grew up eating German food so this was a real treat. Finished the night with a cocktail and testing each other with one of the quiz books. Perfect! Shame we are not local, whenever we are in the area we will be back. 10/10"
