"I’ve been coming here for years. Always nicely busy, a comfortable place to be and great produce used on their very extensive menu. A place I always felt I’d recommend to anyone. I’m not quite sure what’s going on. We arrived after the lunch rush, just after 2.30. Nobody to greet and seat so after a few minutes of standing about we decided to sit down at a free table. As we sat down, a waitress came out of the kitchen so I asked if it was ok to take the table we had. A cursory grunt... We were quickly informed that only ‘the bacon to the bagel’ on the menu was available as it was after 2:30. Five or six choices off a menu that must feature over thirty dishes on a SATURDAY. We made our choices, service was slow, but the food when it game was good (as it should be for a smoked salmon bagel and a sausage butty, let’s face it you’d have to try hard to mess that up) My friend then decided on dessert and coffee. We tried for quite some time in a now mostly empty restaurant to catch the eye of our waitress and when she passed and I asked politely if I could order a dessert, I was met with an impatient ‘can I just do this first??’ Another waitress overheard and offered to do it for us. There was a fair bit of noticeable disharmony between the staff and complaints made between themselves could be heard by both myself and my friend. We honestly felt like we were a huge inconvenience. After another lengthy wait I asked for the bill. It didn’t come. We watched instead as our waitress sat at the table next to us ‘cashing up’, or rather counting blue copies of orders. After a good while she approached the table and asked if we wouldn’t mind paying as she wanted to finish up. At this point I told her that I had asked her for bill ten minutes ago and still hadn’t received it. ‘Well you didn’t ask me’ came the reply. Ugh. All in all, very uncomfortable. Snappish service and for me, an extensive menu shouldn’t be so limited at 2.30pm on a Saturday. I noticed that you could order a fried egg on your bacon butty, but not after 2.30pm?? After 2.30pm it was a bacon butty without an egg. Crazy. If this had been my first visit, I would never had made a second. In fact, despite enjoying it a lot over the years, I doubt I will be back. Such a shame..."

We were visiting to stock up on smoked delights for Christmas we had decided to have lunch there since it's about an hours drive from home.

A nice stop off for a light lunch. Service was good and a nice menu selection. My partner enjoyed a fish selection platter, which was delicious. Added benefit of the fabulous deli downstairs to tempt you to buy their delicious offerings Speisekarte ansehen

I am not local but come to Wilmslow several times a year and often call into the farm shop. However, it is at least 11 years since I last ate in the restaurant and the last time, I found it seriously overpriced and vowed not to come back.

We had a delightful visit to the Smokehouse cafe. It was very busy when we arrived, so left our name and went shopping. Barbara the friendly waitress came and sought us out to say there was a table ready. It’s always delicious food and friendly waiting staff. Spoils us for going elsewhere .

Called in for lunch and waited half an hour on a crowded stairway surely a health and safety hazard? when seated, and there were plenty of empty tables, just no staff to clear, it was all very offhand and no apology. Then another 10 minutes for someone to take our order. When the food came it was tasty but it's not so good it makes up for the poor organisation of this cafe. Speisekarte ansehen

Having visited the SmokeHouse several times we were looking forward to trying your new restaurant in Wilmslow. What a let down!! We read the menu outside the restaurant and decided to order a Sharing Platter which sounded delicious. We went upstairs and looked at a very shabby menu no Sharing Platter they are not available until after four o’clock. The waitress suggested we went back down stairs and looked at the sandwiches!! We were hoping to have a glass of wine each, but they weren’t on the menu. We would have had to go down stairs to view the sandwiches, order the food, then unless we went together one of us would have had to check out the wine list then come back upstairs to let the oth...

i dropped by with my boyfriend just before 3.30 on a wet saturday afternoon. We helped ourselves to a table with little acknowledgement from the staff. There was definitely an air of wanting to close up and i did feel slightly in the way. After settling on food we were told only some items could be ordered so we had to settle on a sausage butty a cream cheese bagel, on arrival the appearance of the latter would have made a New Yorker weep, it looked like it had been run over there was no dill pickle. My boyfriend said his sandwich was good but overpriced. i heard another table being told what they couldn't order with a customer asking why he could order bacon but not an egg (the frying pan h...

"Having successfully deposited our eldest in her new Uni digs and having enjoyed an evenings kip in an adjoining Manchester hotel we were in two minds where to breakfast. MrsC’s growing angst over the likely state of our home after allowing our youngest free rein for a garden party proved persuasive so we decided on an early exit an victuals en route. A scan of Happy Cow and Google combined allied to our southbound travel threw up Wild and Wild as a convenient stop off before we rejoined the M6. Pleased to see that it opened at 10;00am on a Sunday whilst registering our likely arrival at 10:15 we added the required SatNav waypoint and trained our behemoth on its new path. There was convenient free parking on the Sunday and we ambled on the pedestrianised section to Wild and Wild; sitting slightly incongruously next to a Costa. The place is light and well laid out and an enticing array of cakes and pastries greets you as you enter. The usual instructive board informed us “to please wait to be seated” which we did. The young lady who appeared to be both front of house, barista and server said she would be with us after serving her present customer; which was fine but, in truth, simply having the menus on the tables and allowing you to sit yourself at empty unreserved tables would seemed to have been the least intrusive and effective means of managing the flow? Anyway we were handed drinks/food menus and then informed that we could, in effect, do exactly that and seat ourselves. The breakfast/brunch menu was concise but convincing and for speed and efficiency MrsC and I settled on two “full English”, vegan of course, and two oat milk lattes. Queued again and gave the order and paid there and then. Though we haven’t been out too much recently the coffee prices seemed about right but the breakfast seemed a tad high. Understanding how inflation is hitting that might just be an impression but if we had stayed in Manchester and returned to the Lounge a similar menu would have been 30% less. Then it started going awry. The wait for the coffee seemed long; the wait for the food almost interminable (around 40-45 mins in truth) Halfway through that wait another server had magicked into operation and it switched from queuing to order to table service. She was professional enough to highlight to new incoming customers that drinks would be about 10 mins/food 30. Something not considered worthy of note to us earlier arrivals. The breakfast was ok. The vegan sausages appeared homemade with rice wrapper “skins” but they were woefully dry and overcooked. The whole vine of oven roasted cherry tomatoes were good as was the star of the show the Smokey “baked beans”. The toast was good quality bread but cut too thin to successfully soak up both beans and the sweet tomatoes. The other components of mixed greens and mushrooms and tofu scramble were under seasoned and a little bland. The potato rosti was a little dense but ok. Sadly the food was underwhelming and more so due to the long wait; ill fitting the vibe and the surroundings especially as the place wasn’t heaving at any time. Always feel awkward knocking eateries in these uncertain times but, in this case, expectations raised by the feel of the place allied to the prices charged, we’re not met by the quality of the food. Perhaps it’s better suited to an afternoon cake and a drink session? Disappointed."

"Wow!!! It has been many years since my last meal at the Brownlow. My late wife Dee and I used to dine here regularly. After her passing, I spent a lot of time working in Sub-Equatorial Africa, providing water to remote areas. Now that I am back in Congleton, some of my neighbors decided to take me out for a birthday lunch, and to my surprise, they chose the Brownlow. I was a bit apprehensive, as the restaurant held so many wonderful memories for me. However, from the moment I walked in, any doubts I had were quickly dispelled. The warm greeting and smile at the reception desk set the tone for the rest of our dining experience. We were promptly seated with menus in hand, and our pre-meal drinks (a perfectly chilled Pinot) arrived with efficiency. The professionalism displayed in serving our meals was commendable and something that is often lacking in other restaurants. The presentation of our dishes was impeccable, and the quality of the food was evident in the clean plates at the end of our meal. I have always believed that people eat with their eyes first, and even those who prioritize presentation would be pleased with the artistry on display here. I will have no problem recommending the Brownlow to my family and friends in the future. The whole team's friendly and welcoming demeanor made for a pleasant dining experience. Special thanks to Simon, the chef, for a job well done - you definitely deserve a raise! I am already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you for a memorable meal. Norman A Dean."
