"On arrival they didn’t have our reservation, which put me on guard. The dining area is part bar, part lounge and part restaurant. The bench seats are pretty grubby and are showing signs of age. As they didn’t have our reservation they didn’t have our pre notified dietary request either, not going well so far. This all changed because the two servers on duty were incredibly helpful, making sure that the dietary requirements were available. A little wait for the food considering there were very few people dining, but the food was worth the wait. Steak and vegetables cooked perfectly and very tasty. The staff remained attentive during our meal without being a nuisance. In summary great food, if a little pricey, good service, but let down by shabby seating and having a table adjacent to a smelly Saint Bernard. It struggles to have the area used for three different uses, bar for the man and his dog, lounge for people lounging on a couch and a restaurant. Yes we would visit again but hopefully without the dog, a restaurant really isn’t the place for anything but an assistant dog."

Pretty pedestrianised area. Think this restaurant cafe may be part of the hotel. Interesting stuff on menu. Slightly formal staff but effective.

The Hotel also contains the Tunbridge Wells Eating Rooms which I think is the main business as opposed to the Hotel. I went for breakfast with a friend. I think it was the best breakfast out that I have ever had. Amazing and courteous service.

I found this restaurant in the 2017 edition of The Michelin Guide so assumed it must be ok even if the guide was three years old. It isn’t. Dreadful interior design with no character or ambiance. The service was ok but the food only so so. All round very disappointing.

We visited the Eating house for our wedding anniversary, we only stopped for drinks and nibbles we sat outside ab watched the world go by on a lovely June Sunday we decided to come back in the evening and have dinner, the food was very good not a huge choice but very good. We were there on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was very quiet.

I have visited on Jazz in the Pantiles and a few times with normal service. At Jazz in the Pantiles, a very busy time with outside seating, we were a little disappointed that the vegetarian menu was not on as we had a number of vegetarians in the party. This was not explained to us when we booked but a £70 booking fee was taken. Most recently I dined on my own, early evening. The food came out promptly and was cooked well however I found that I needed to be active to get a second drink.

Been eating Breakfast here once a week for the last three or four years. They all know my order, I never have to ask. Rolled up today at the usual 8.30 to be confronted by someone new (can only have been the owner) who said they didnt open until 9. When I asked when this policy had started he rudely told me thats how it had always been. This was clearly untrue as my years of attendance proved. An arguement that cut no ice. Frankly, if they are treating long term regulars like this then the underlying attitude towards everyone else must be pretty appalling. I suggest you try further along the Pantiles.

Went here on a Thursday for Jazz on the Pantiles. The menu is ok, nothing special but pricey for what is served. You could cook this at home. We sat outside table nearest the restaurant. Not a good place to sit as they serve drinks then a crowd forms behind the table so it is like sitting in a goldfish bowl. One of our friends asked for a bowl of ice cream he got given one scoop! When we complained the waiter became agressive and rude. Just so I do not tar all the staff with the same brush the two female waitresses were excellent. We waited a long time between each courses, watched our food travel amongst the crowd. Paid £275.00 for five people.....would we do it again NO. Very dissappointed...

I had lunch here with a friend last Sunday. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good. We really enjoyed it and will definitely visit again. 2 points to mention that prevented me giving 5 stars – we both had coffee after our meal and it was the strongest coffee I’ve ever tasted and, for our taste, was on the verge of rendering it …… undrinkable. They really need to change the blend/strength to appeal to majority taste. Also, as a vegetarian, while there were quite a few choices on the menu, I hate to see a ‘Roasts’ section with no veggie (Nut Roast? option included. Vegetarians like roast dinners too! Not too difficult to make a Nut Roast and have veggie gravy/roast potatoes...

"Firstly I would like to say that this restaurant has just been refurbished, and it didn’t feel like an Italian restaurant, more like a cafe at the beach somewhere! It felt very sparse and most Italian restaurants I e been to have proper tablecloths on the table but these were plastic and I noticed one table it was tapped up underneath, in my opinion it needs to be made more warmly and have more of a family feel. The food was really nice, although I would advise anyone to make sure they double check their order as I chose chicken in a sauce really nice which came with vegetables but I also asked for a separate portion of potatoes, when it arrived I just had chicken with a few cut up potatoes and a very very small garnish of salad ! I mentioned this to the waitress who had taken our order and she said I know but the chef had given you extra salad !! Sorry but salad is not vegetables , it clearly said on the menu it came with vegetables. Having said about the above issue, the meals we all had were nice and the staff gave us a very warm welcome and because of the blip they said we could have a free pudding…..not sure if we all did or it was just mine but I never see the bill as we were treated to this. To finish the evening off we were given a lovely limoncello shot. We would definitely go back. Thankyou for a lovely evening in your restaurant"

"Popped in for a late lunch with my wife and sat in the garden in the sunshine. Friendly bar staff. Both had the mussels starters which were ok and the bread was nice. My wife had the surf and turf main, priced at £40, which...surely would deliver at that price. Sadly not. The lobster was ok but the steak, cooked rare as requested, was grey, under seasoned and tasteless. She didn't finish it and didn't even bother asking for a doggy bag. She felt it was the worst steak she had ever eaten. I went for the chicken fajitas which arrived sizzling on a platter. The chicken was dry, massively under seasoned and the red peppers and onions weren't cooked properly. The salad I didn't even touch as it was so painfully boring to look at. My three tortillas were like cardboard and I ate just half of one and then gave up. Chips were only randomly cooked through so we both left most of those also. We gave feedback to the waitress when she cleared the table and went to pay. Whilst paying at the bar the licensee went behind the bar without acknowledging us in the slightest and told the lady taking our payment to take the fajitas off the bill. No apology; not even the time of day was paid to us. He even said to her tell them the fajitas have been taken off the bill'...why on earth he couldn't tell us directly is beyond me! It was rude beyond belief. We paid and left. Over the years we have been to many carvers, seafood evenings and meals out with family and friends at The Black Horse. I will never step through the door again and waste my money. I will do my utmost to make sure that anyone who asks why will learn the truth. What a dreadful experience!"
