"Oh my goodness. Visiting an iconic restaurant, the atmosphere was still good, but unfortunately it's just not the same as it used to be. The iconic crab and shrimp cocktail has now turned into three iceberg salads, a bucket of small prawns that were later revealed to contain white meat on one side and some tomatoes, with a side of sauce. It felt like it was made by a 5-year-old, all for the price of £20.00. Another starter we ordered came with arrogance when we calmly complained. The maitre d' didn't seem too concerned. In the end, a lovely waitress asked if we would prefer white crab meat instead, but at £20.00, it should have been better. We ended up spending £111.00 for two soups, a lackluster dish, a grilled cocktail, and a dessert plus water. We had a much better meal in London yesterday with a view of the Thames, where the food was tastier, the staff were friendlier, and it was more centrally located. It's sad, very sad. This restaurant needs a management overhaul and the chef who made our meal should reconsider their approach. This iconic restaurant may not last unless changes are made soon."

Visiting the George has become an extremely expensive treat. £16 for a cheese and tomato sandwich and a small bottle of beer. I must say this time I found the staff and service acceptable.

Booked in advance and notified one of us had gluten intolerance. They didn't seem to know which main course dishes were GF. No GF Pasta options. Very poor, very expensive. Ended up with fish and chips from alternative menu but had to push to get...that. Will not go there again.

Lunch with friends on a sunny Saturday, this place was packed, so book or arrive early! Food is excellent, although took a long time to arrive. But the service was shocking, drinks were challenging to order, no one came to check if the food was...OK. Second round of drinks again took 3 waiters to sort out and then the coffee was served with most of it in the saucer!! Speisekarte ansehen

We had an impromptu late lunch on Tuesday 1st Feb. I ordered a sirloin steak, medium rare with bearnaise sauce . The steak was so tough and the strip of gristle along the edge was not removed . The chips were no better than budget...frozen chips and the sauce was thin and split an absolute disaster !! We have been using the George hotel over the last 25 years but unfortunately will not be returning .

Although quite small and local, my recent visit to The George in Stamford was exceptional. I went with a friend for lunch and was extremely impressed. The staff, from the receptionist to the servers, were welcoming and attentive. The meal was served at the perfect pace and each dish was delicious. I can't thank The George enough for a wonderful afternoon. I am looking forward to returning soon for their delicious afternoon tea.

Ok the George is a lovely building. Ok the garden room has a good atmosphere. BUT I ordered a rare steak and it came well done, was tough, tasteless and a strange grainy texture. DREADFUL ! DREADFUL ! The mixed tomato side salad was tasteless...,watery and cold . The avocado and little gem salad was covered in a sickly dressing . All I wanted was an ordinary mixed side salad but there wasnt one on the menu. The chips were really awful white, powdery and undercooked. Presumably bought chips out of the freezer . The white wine was too warm. The waiter brought the wrong one to start with anyway a more expensive one !! but we spotted the error .The red wine was too cold. We wanted white wine wit... It has been a while since my last visit to the Garden Room at The George, and unfortunately, it did not live up to my previous experience. The price-performance ratio, the beautiful restaurant, and the fantastic dining were lacking on this recent visit. We spent £118 for two appetizers, two mains, and a bottle of wine, but the quality of the meal and the service fell short. The food was average at best, with overcooked meat and terrible chips. The burger and French onion soup were the only highlights. The staff were unfriendly and inattentive, taking too long to even take our drinks order despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Normally, I would politely express my dissatisfaction, but I...

We have had hit and miss experiences with the George over the years and the last time we went to the Green room we had food that had to be sent back and it was overpriced for what it was. Given there was limited options...when we went last weekend we booked and got in the outside marquis in the garden. My wife was not expecting much but I must say, the environment, the service and the food was absolutely the best, and this was the best experience of the weekend hands down. Steven the Maitre D was brilliant and funny and not stuck up like some of the servers we have had in the past there. Thoroughly enjoyable and it has now given us a new vigour for visiting there everytime we go for drinks o...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
