"We aren’t local and stopped here for a light lunch before attending a funeral at Reading Crematorium. Firstly, the pub is large and has a cosy atmosphere. The menu is large and provides a variety of different options, including a separate lunch menu which is available Mondays to Fridays. Three out of the for of our party opted for the bacon and cheese burger. I also opted to swap my chips for a salad. I have recently been in the habit of avoiding burgers in pubs because of the latest trend in using sweet brioche buns and smearing everything with “chorizo chutney” or the ubiquitous Nduja. Because these burgers are served in actual sesame buns and weren’t adulterated with anything that didn’t belong like caramelised onion jam, I decided to risk it! I wasn’t disappointed. I had a decent juicy patty, decent cheese that didn’t look or taste like it had been squirted out of an aerosol can, nice onion rings, and a thoughtfully prepared and dressed salad. It was a better than usual pub burger and was exactly the right amount of food. The chips also looked nice and crunchy and nobody had any complaints. My husband went for the wild boar sausages and mash, which looked very nice and he enjoyed. Thanks to Bonnie who served us."
