"we have booked for a family dinner, 8 of us and a high chair. the table top was placed for 6 2. who would do that? the service was very slow to feel as if we had brought them out.....and to ask for everything, drink to order food when the food came, we didn't get any cutlery. my partner meal actually came with a pot on the plate....it was empty! how can a cook and a server not notice that it was empty? we had to remove our own plates from our table to the next empty, which was not deleted either. we were not asked if we wanted dessert or tea/coffee. we had to go into the bar and ask for more drinks. Eating was okay, but expensive for what it was, nothing special. do not even ask for something similar to a simple cocktail. be careful when they ask for gin to drive it up. without asking you!"

The service was atrocious. Not enough staff for the amount of people. Even the staff apologised for how bad it was

Requested roast beef. What came looked like prepackaged sandwich ready slices heated with gravy and placed with the usual vegetables

£5.20 for a pint, seriously guys for an out of town bar/restaurant? You go up to the Bellevue on the Antrim Road for £3.80 a pint and £5.00 in the centre of Belfast.

We were seated quickly, given menus and drinks order taken. Drinks delivered and food order taken. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was very good and portion sizes good.also. Found the drinks expensive though.

Monday night outing for a birthday dinner, quite disappointed, slow service and don't eat the biggest, overall would not be back, was here lasting over the years, can be a big place, but let them eat by customer service and simply ok!

james the manager and his team could not handle the few people in the bar. no eye contact at the bar, head down at any time .. stood at the bar for 10 minutes, while all others stared at the floor! very young inexperienced staff around .. it is a pity as we regularly visit it. the owners would be disappointed to read this! to the errigal!! color better ..

I called an early tee with another couple after hearing some good recommendations lately. two of us really had an idea for a burger, but unfortunately they were sold out (around 19 o'clock.) instead ordered fish and chips that I must say was very...well perfectly cooked with beautiful crispy teig. restaurant was about half full, with a lot of personal, but I must say we found the service very slow and quite difficult to get the attention of each. that is, when the server arrived, they were friendly, helpful and professional. when the bill arrived, we were a bit taken back and found it quite expensive for what we had.

Really disappointed with here recently. Went in at 7pm on Sat night to get a table for one drink. Told the server this, i.e. wouldn't need the table for long. You have to wait to be seated which I don't really understand given the change...in covid restrictions. The bar didn't seem packed and we saw empty seats yet the server told us there was no table, only outside. Amazed that businesses would turn away custom. As someone who lives very nearby I want to go to this bar but often have bad experiences. A month or so ago we were there and a female member of staff was very rude. We took our custom elsewhere and went down the Ormeau road for a drink instead.

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."

"I'm an American. I was invited to work at the queen’s university in a global conference. my airline has moved my baggage, so I stopped in the barking dog to use her wlan to check the status of my baggage and have a drink and a snack with my associate who has unusual allergies. the menu had nothing to call us, so we have decided to finish and move only our drinks./ at no point has anyone informed that it is illegal to have only drinks, and our server ran our review without mentioning any legal requirements. After I paid, someone who I suspect, the manager, came to the table and checked our reception. exactly what I thought was what they said before they cheated on me how it is illegal to buy drinks in a restaurant without eating. I apologised and explained that I had no warning. I offered to buy food retroactive and they refused. then they repeated that I was in a restaurant and not in a pub and that my activities were illegal. they denied my multiple attempts to apologise me while I explained that I am not out of the opposite. this experience was very confusing for me, because the night before me had drinks in a restaurant without food and it was no problem. in any case I was told that there is no such law and that the ordering of drinks without eating in a restaurant is very common. I've never been treated so badly in a customer service dynamic and I'm not sure why this happened. I feel targeted and totally mistreated for what does not seem to be a good reason. To finish it, it was my birthday. complete error in the name of what this person was. I will say the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating."
