"We arrived very early in the evening, and the waiter was eager to please. In fact, all of the staff were polite and attentive throughout. The food was glorious. A chicken tikka balti and a chicken jalfrezi. Both meals were excellent, perfectly cooked. The restaurant...was clean and tidy, and soft music was playing in the background. All in all, nothing to fault about the place. Only thing to remember is that The Jewel isn't licensed, so if you want alcohol with your meal, you will have to bring your own. But lots of restaurants are unlicensed nowadays, so it's not a problem. Thoroughly recommend The Jewel."

we havent used this resturant for years but we thought we would give it a try!.. We had food there with a few friends and it was a good night! The food was quite good and flavoursome and the service was great! The waiters were...well informed about every dish and they were happy to attend to concerns over the nut allergies of a friend's food.. Not as good as my local but we shall definitely be popping in again when we decide for a change!..

"This was our first visit. I have to remind myself that this is a training environment for students but there should be someone in charge, who is identifiable to direct the students on how to present a menu and how to place a dish in front of customers. However, four courses for £35, amuse bouche counted for one course. Amouse bouche lacked any seasoning, orzo starter, well cooked but again lacked seasoning. My wife had fish, Coley, which was nice. I had chicken breast on a bed of curry sauce with hassleback potatoes. My whole dish was luke warm at best, the curry sauce was overpowering, and the hassleback potatoes were not crispy. The chicken was lovely and moist and I ordered a side of triple cooked chips which were super hot, expensive at £4, I only wish the rest of my dish was that hot. I had cheese and biscuits which consisted of Brie, blue cheese and cheddar together with chutney. My wife had Pain Perdue which was well presented and tasty. The restaurant is more like a cafe, not cosy, so don't choose it if you want a romantic evening. Overall would I go again? probably not. If you are ever near the Lake district try to book a table in the restaurant at Kendal College. On a final note; there is parking on an evening next to the college. Drive up to the barrier and press the call button, security will let you in. The barrier opens automatically on exit."
