"I have to update my review of the Jarvis Brew after my first review one year ago. An amazing place to pop in if you’re heading to the station before catching the train or if you simply want a casual chat and a fantastic cup of coffee with a home made sweat treat. Morning options include hot porridge, banana bread, carrot muffins and great sausage and bacon rolls. The lunch time sandwiches, soups and warm meals are excellent. I have to single out and mention the Curried carrot broad bean and the Thai parsnip soups. More recently the Red Thai Curry rice or Chilli Con Carne Jacket potatoes are excellent. Gary and Rachel are consistently producing fantastic food and drink and are brilliant hosts even when dashing through for a last minute cuppa before getting a train."

"We used to frequent this pub often in the past, but heard that it had changed ownership, so we decided to meet our friends here. We were excited to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in a while. However, when we arrived, my husband inquired about their ale selection and was informed they only had Harveys with no other options. The server who brought our drinks had dirty fingernails, which was off-putting. When it came time to order food, one of our friends asked about a Christmas menu and was told it needed to be pre-ordered, as stated on their website. Despite our frequent visits in the past, we had not checked the website. The food was tasty, but the service was lacking. We had to request drinks and were not asked about our meals once they arrived. At 9:40, a lady approached us with the bill and informed us they were closing soon. When we asked for another drink, we were denied. My husband requested to remove the service charge, which caused some tension with the lady taking payment. She questioned why he wouldn't pay it, stating that everyone charges it, which we found rude. Overall, the poor service has discouraged us from returning or recommending the pub to others, despite the delicious food. It's disappointing, as we had hoped the new management would focus on attracting and retaining customers."

"I typically avoid restaurants that are labeled as gastro, preferring pubs to be more traditional and restaurants to be separate entities. However, The Mark Cross Inn has merged the two, functioning more as a restaurant these days. Despite my initial reservations, I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food and enjoyable dining experience I had with a group of 8. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was family-friendly and relaxed. Some of the dishes were served in a quirky manner, such as chips in small frying baskets, which I found charming but others in my party found unnecessary. Main dishes ranged from £10-£20, with options like steak burgers and battered cod being more budget-friendly. Overall, I had a lovely meal and would recommend The Mark Cross Inn for a casual lunch or family meal."

"This large pub offers great food and is highly recommended. The staff are friendly and accommodating. We dined with 8 people, including 2 children and a dog, during lunchtime. The bar staff were particularly helpful with everything from dividing the bill to serving drinks. The food was fantastic and perfectly cooked, thanks to the talented kitchen staff. Our meals all arrived at the same time, hot and full of flavor. The pub also has a huge beer garden that is well-maintained, with pigs and chickens kept at a distance from the dining area. Dogs are welcome in all areas, and you can even enjoy a drink at the bar with your furry friend! I would definitely recommend a visit to this pub for a meal or simply a drink. The staff are great and the atmosphere is welcoming."

"it was another month, family coming together, where we were trying somewhere new. it looked like a more promising place at the arrival we were surprised by the lack of parking as it was unexpected, but it was not a reflection on our visit. it is a small but beautiful village style pub/Bistro and small, it creates a pretty good atmosphere. the staff was friendly and helpful, but unfortunately the service became surprisingly slow. there was a series of times when we felt forgotten after we had waited for 20 minutes and had to go into the bar itself to order drinks, request menus etc. eating was different from the online menus so we threw a little, and mentioning steaks on the website had completely disappeared on the printed menus. then the articles we wanted were not available. the eating was ok, it was not amazing, but it did the job. my wife ordered the seafood plate that she left two thirds, as she said it was not at all nice, and the burgers that our two youngs were very average and clearly not homemade, but they were the only real negative."
