The Riverside - Speisekarte

Nice bar. Lovely, warm open fire. My food was very disappointing. The chicken pie was good, but small we had been walking for five hours the lumpy mashed potato was watery, the small portion of mushy peas was dry and probably microwaved.

Popped in for a quick drink and a light lunch after recommendations from others. The bar has a nice feel and an excellent range of well kept real ales. I had a cheese and pickle toastie which was tasty and excellent value for money. The...girl behind the bar was also super friendly. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the Lakes.

...and as someone with coeliac disease and therefore needing a gluten free meal I couldn’t have asked for more. I had the steak and caramelised onion chutney sandwich- all portion sizes were very generous and delicious. We are a family of four and all of...us loved our main courses and desserts. Welcoming bar staff and a chef who was attentive and provided gorgeous food. Thank you.

A mixed experience. Our waitress was very friendly as were all of the staff. However, there were several mistakes with our bill which lead to us being overcharged and then charged again instead of being refunded. However, on the plus side, the problem was resolved...efficiently and amicably. To be fair, our waitress was new and this was the first day of opening for inside meals. The beer was excellent and the food was decent.

It's been a long time since we'd been back to the Lakes. We'd visited the Riverside the last time and not liked so how we allowed ourselves to visit again I don't know. Possibly because of the time distance and coming at it from a...different direction. The soup was far too sweet, the roll out of the freezer and burned in the heating process. The black pudding fritters were tasty but, goodness, a pop? Definitely not for us another tie around

We visited this pub twice during our family holiday in the beautiful lakes. It is a charming establishment with a real traditional feel. The bar staff welcomed us warmly on both visits. We enjoyed sitting in front of the cozy open fire, sipping hot chocolate and chatting with other visitors who shared stories of their walks with their dogs. If you're looking for a pub with character, look no further. We can't wait to return. Keep up the great work.

We always enjoy going to the Scafell bar when visiting the beautiful Borrowdale. Today, after a lovely walk over Castle Crag, we stopped in for a drink and lunch (due to COVID restrictions, we had to order food with our beer). We were warmly greeted by a friendly woman and seated by the cozy log fire. We had a fantastic fish finger ciabatta and a delicious home roast ham sandwich, both served with chips, salad, and a delicious Borrowdale Blonde beer. These are difficult times for local businesses, but we are happy to support them.

Have been coming to this bar for years. Haven’t been for years before this week. While the decor’s been updated the nature of it felt just the same warm and welcoming with good local beer and filling post-walk food. Love reading the...Borrowdale Fell Run winners board, the mountain weather forecast and charting with other walkers/ runners/ cyclists. It felt great to be back. We went to the pub twice and both times the food was delicious. However, they only accept a limited number of food orders which causes many people to be turned away. Luckily, we were able to place our order but had to wait a long time for our food to arrive (which was frustrating, but we assumed there was a shortage of staff). What bothered us the most was that even though we arrived before them, hotel guests received their food much sooner than we did. Additionally, while the staff were friendly, they seemed to spend more time socializing at the end of the bar rather than clearing glasses or taking drink orders.
