"We stopped here whilst on the canals and so glad we did. What an awesome place this is and the food is excellent. The mac and cheese went down a treat and one of the party said the burger was one of the best he has eaten in a long time. The beers were fresh and they had a good choice of ales. The service is attentive and the food arrived promptly. The manager went above and beyond in helping me out. Would definitely recommend this pub."

"A friendly and smiling welcome wich made you think you're special to them. Good beers a decent choice including Butty Bach as a really good bitter. The menu is traditional pub rather than gatronomic but that's what we were hoping for. The pie is a good size and meat filled. Vegetables are great and chips are proper chips. We only had the one course but the starters and desserts sounded great. Chatting to the community managers later proved that they have full time businesses of their own but run them completely separately from the living quarters upstairs. They are on hand 24 7 for emergencies etc. It's a venture for them and for the village. Interestingly they are intent on improving on the reputation of previous owners managers. This is a village pub that serves good food in good time at reasonable rates. It's not, and doesn't try to be, a restaurant with more exotic offerings. It's historic, a proper pub, and an important part of the village and the UK canal scene (if some way away from the canal!"

"Stopped overnight 18/5! Delicious meal of fish and chips! Then retired to our excellent quiet room for a restful nights sleep! Breakfast to die for! The best I have ever had at any hotel over the years! Cannot praise enough! Will certainly return soon! 10/10!!"

"This is a gorgeous thatched roofed pub, decor inside is calm cosy and romantic the owners and staff are very friendly cheerful and totally professional and the food is out standing. This is a return visit after 3 months having had a stunning meal last time. I had Rib eye steak, my wife had belly pork which was over two inches thick sat on mash potato with peas and runner beans both meals again stunning, for dessert I had for scoops of different flavoured ice cream my wife had apple and peach crumble and custard This is an absolutely stunning place to eat with lovely garden For a relaxing or romantic meal the eating area is not your normal one big room filled with tables and chairs it a little warren of nocks and snug areas very ideal for those who want a bit of quite privacy. Owners who do the cooking are extremely friendly and the young staff are just great which made our evening It is disability accessible but not the toilets possible due to age of building Thank you for a lovelly evening see you again."

"We called in here Saturday evening for a drink, with a view to have some food if we liked the menu. We hadn't been back here for a long while, even though we live locally, but had been meaning to revisit. We chose something off the bar menu and we were not disappointed. It was probably the best gammon I had had in a long time,and what I really liked was that the egg and pineapple was served together and you weren't forced to choose between the two as is most often the case. I dont like peas, but was kindly asked if I wanted an alterative, so I chose salad and it was delicious, fresh, full of colour and came with a gorgeous dressing. My husband had the burger and this was also very nice. The food was served up very nicely and just tasted absolutely delicious, the home made onion rings were lovely. It was modern pub food, traditional but updated and fresh. The drinks were also served nicely, my wine was in a lovely big glass, nicely chilled and very tasty. The landlord came over and had a word which was a nice touch and the service was excellent. Its also great to see basket meals on the menu. My only critisism is that the place lacks polish, the car park/garden at the back looks a bit shabby, it needs attention to detail, more colour, perhaps some nice planted tubs/ baskets etc. there was a broken pot and quite a bit of rubbish around, however I know they have suffered a flood and are in the middle of refurbishing. The bar was clean and nicely decorated but not sure about the overall style, seems to be a clash of different styles, however still a nice ambience. We wont be leaving it so long to revisit next time!"
