"Myself and a fellow student went along to this place for a catch up over a light lunch and coffee, having stumbled across it on trip advisor. I 'm fairly certain we weren 't the target market but we loved it nonetheless! We were told it is a café aimed at children they also offer some form of tutoring after schools but we loved the theme, food and service! We visited on a Saturday morning when the café was very quiet we were the only eating customers (the café is also a shop) but the café is quiet small so we didn 't feel awkward (as such I wouldn 't recommend coming with a big group as the café probably couldn 't cater for more than 20 at any given time). At first glance the café seemed like one of those expensive art and craft places you get in obscure tourist filled villages as my friend described them, the type of place that charges you £20 to make a key ring for which you had already bought the parts . As such it seemed extraordinarily out of place in the middle of Hackney, and seemed to exist in it 's own little world. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that this was not the case, and that we had entered a reasonably priced café run by friendly staff and is a charity in it 's own right where profits go towards educating the young in Hackney that need it most.We each ordered lunch for £5.50 I was able to have a tasty ham and mozzarella toastie and a small pot of tea (equivalent to about 3 full cups), which isn 't going to win any awards in terms of price, but in London it 's hardly extortionate, especially for a charitable cause. The meal was delightful, though anyone looking for more than lunch might want to look elsewhere beyond 'snacky ' foods such as crisps the menu offered just toasties and salads. Later I did order a second drink a coke bottle for £2.40. The brand was a fair trade one I 'd never heard of, and I must admit I was a touch disappointed at the choice of cold drinks. They were all 'fancy ' drinks juices and soft drinks of obscure brands and aside from one or two at £1.50 none were below £2. A cheaper option wouldn 't have gone amiss, but it definitely did not put too much of a downer on my time at the café.As for the theme, the interior was laid out much like a pirate ship. Clearly a lot of thought had gone into the design and it had certainly paid off, making the café a real stand out place o the street! The staff were friendly throughout and chatted to us when we were being served. I 'd definitely recommend it to a friend if not for the cool pirate theme alone. and will undoubtedly return should I ever be in Hackney again."

A friend coaxed me in. An entertaining two hours in a slightly contrived but wholly relaxing and enjoyable space. Good hearty food and drink. Very friendly with more than a little bustle.

This cafe serves delicious, locally sourced food- inventive sandwich and salad options. Best of all it funds an awesome children's charity, and whilst you eat your lunch or drink your coffee you can view the products made by the children themselves!

A great little coffee shop/shop that funds an amazing charity. With a great selection of teas and delicious treats as well as an amazing range of gift ideas it is definitely worth dropping by. Their card selection is top notch too! Plus is that isn't enough it's a ship in a shop what more could you want?

Stumbled across this cafe en route to lunch and stopped by for tea after. A lovely shop front with really welcoming and smiley staff (who were incidentally volunteers). Ordered a decent matcha green tea latte. I was most impressed about how child friendly this place is and its clear investment into the community. My friends and our young sons were invited to join a toddler storytelling event; we heard some lovely stories written by primary school children who were doing a run through before their CD recording! All really unexpected but so rewarding for a quick drop in! I also ended up buying a pirate sticker book on the way out... Speisekarte ansehen

We braved the Big Smoke on a cold wet day in February and had a pretty stressy time to be honest. The cosy, nourishing part of our day where we could all draw breath, relax and enjoy ourselves was definitely here at The Ship of Adventures. Friendly people serving a fantastic yet simple range of healthy homemade food and drinks including loads of imaginative teas. There are books to read and buy, crafts and gifts to inspire and buy, comfy seats, quiet unintrusive spots for people to study, the decor makes it all feel like you are travelling in an old galleon without the swell or smell to make you sick and there are clever little curiosities all around to discover. It's all in aid of local you...

We had a family wedding in Dalston on Saturday at 2pm. As we knew the meal wouldn 't be served until at least 4pm, we knew we 'd need a quick lunch beforehand. Having read reviews on Trip Advisor we chose this café as it was ideally located and sounded really interesting. It was indeed a delightfully quirky venue: as the pictures indicate, it 's like being inside a wooden sailing ship. However ... the service was a bit amateur albeit very friendly. We ordered sandwiches: locally baked sourdough bread, with fillings including serrano ham, mozzarella, rocket etc all sounding very appetising. What (eventually arrived was rather disappointing: first, the sandwiches were toasted although this was...

"A friend and I stumbled on to this neighbourhood restaurant by chance; no research, no booking, no expectations. We were then blown away by the quality of the food: wonderfully fresh fish, beautifully cooked. The service is also exemplary. I've always enjoyed calamari, but this was by far the best I've ever had: truly succulent and juicy. The mussels were almost as good, and the sea bream kept up the standard. The spiced quince with ice cream made a nice change from baclava in a Turkish restaurant (they still threw in some baclava). The owner, Tony, provides excellent recommendations — make sure you take them! He knows what's fresh that morning, and how his wife cooks it. The bill comes hand-written, and Tony forgot to include the wine (obviously I corrected him). I can't remember the last time a restaurant bill made a mistake in the customers' favour! No service charge is included, and it deserves a lot more than the usual 12.5%. This is a wonderful, old-fashioned restaurant, run by a charming old couple, committed to maintaining old-fashioned standards. The food is more than great and the prices more than reasonable. Service is personal, honest and responsive (providing Tony turns his hearing aid on). Tony warns you if anything you wanted was bought in, rather than home-made. Why don't unassuming but wonderful restaurants like this get Michelin stars?"
